FriendlyNormie··on FDA Approves Clinical Trials to Use Antibodies from Recovered Patients
People volunteer to be locked in facilities for 30+ days to be injected with potentially fatal new and poorly understood drugs all the time in exchange for a few thousand dollars.
FriendlyNormie··on The ‘Blurred Lines’ case scared songwriters, but its time may be up
If I repeatedly linked to my own site with a title that interested you but all you could see on my page was an unskippable ad demanding that you sign up and pay for my unrelated product, wouldn’t my site be banned from HN? Why do sites like nytimes get a free pass with their paywalls?
FriendlyNormie··on ReMarkable’s redesigned e-paper tablet is more powerful and more papery
This article falsely claims the device cannot be used by left-handed people. There is a left-handed mode in the settings.
FriendlyNormie··on CDC says U.S. gatherings of over 50 people should be put off

FriendlyNormie··on USA tried to pay Germans so coronavirus cure vaccine would be exclusive to USA
The problematic bit here is “unidentified” in “unidentified German government source” which roughly translates to “completely made up”.
FriendlyNormie··on Italy and South Korea virus outbreaks reveal disparity in deaths and tactics
Wrong. The short explanation is the chart at this link:

FriendlyNormie··on Italy and South Korea virus outbreaks reveal disparity in deaths and tactics
You do understand that everything would have been fine if we simply pretended this virus didn’t exist, right? A few extremely old people would have died slightly sooner. That’s it.
FriendlyNormie··on John Titor
Some people want to increase the unhinged fearmongering over the virus by any means necessary. They’re running out of plausible rumors to do it with so now they’re upvoting end times prophecies instead. Of course that’s the only reason this is being upvoted right now. My question is why aren’t they being shadowbanned for inflaming the hysteria. The astonishing thing is that 99% of these people spent the past ten years aggressively trashing anyone who showed genuine interest in alarming events pointed out by Alex Jones etc, bullying them and rendering them pariahs in their social groups. Now that it’s their turn to be treated this way, their behavior is instead being allowed and encouraged for some reason, and they somehow don’t see the hypocrisy in their pointless cultivating of this panicked conspiracy theorist mindset.
FriendlyNormie··on Covid-19 is now officially a pandemic, WHO says
I don’t understand how even the people who might agree with you aren’t bored of seeing formulaic offtopic Trump bashing that could be produced by a script polluting every discussion they view on the web.

FriendlyNormie··on Coronavirus: A draft decree to 'quarantine 10 million people' in Lombardy
What? The entire reason the subthread you’re participating in exists is because the person who started it believes that giving the public notice in advance is a mistake that fundamentally defeats the purpose of a quarantine. In other words, it’s a terrible and harmful idea. But I guess you’re saying it’s the quarantines themselves that are terrible and harmful because they hurt the precious feelings of individuals who want to be free to leave?
FriendlyNormie··on Federal safety official slams Tesla, regulators for misuse of its Autopilot tech
You want a world where one powerful company can decide to kill you remotely with the click of a button and make it look like an accident. They don’t even need to be the ones to do it, all it takes is one Bluetooth RCE worm to infect all Teslas and stay dormant until a specific time and date when the payload activates and steers them all into trees at 90 mph. Hopefully the opposite of your twisted fever dream happens and we can make all forms of computed driving illegal.
FriendlyNormie··on Transparent 3D maps of human organs
Why do people feel the need to add overly dramatic vi-iv-i-v music to everything?
FriendlyNormie··on Past Time to Tell the Public:It Will Probably Go Pandemic, We Should Prepare Now
How? I once went to three different urgent care clinics and two different emergency rooms begging for an Augmentin prescription. I felt a stabbing pain in my gut hours after eating bacon for the first time in 10 years, and I had strong reason to believe Augmentin was the solution. They all refused to prescribe me Augmentin. I even tried bribing a few doctors with two thousand dollars in cash. They all said no. They all insisted I needed a CT scan before they’d do anything else. I finally obtained Augmentin by finding a discord server full of Mexicans who I paid to mail me some Augmentin they simply ordered over the counter there. After a month of extreme pain, I felt fine again 24 hours after taking the Augmentin.
FriendlyNormie··on Past Time to Tell the Public:It Will Probably Go Pandemic, We Should Prepare Now
Do you mean “HN types”? Almost everyone in this HN thread seems to agree that we should worry about the virus.
FriendlyNormie··on Cary Grant's LSD Therapy in the 1950s
I was annoyed that when I swiped left to quickly check something from the previous page and then swiped right again to go back to the article, my scroll position on the page was completely lost, and a bunch of random ads kept loading as they came into view and shifting text around as I scrolled to try to find my spot again. I’m filled with murderous rage when things like this happen so I wanted to spare others from having a similar experience.

FriendlyNormie··on What happens to a mail-order mattress after you return it
You’re making me hate my CPA. When I became wealthy, they barely reduced my taxes at all but they were very good at pressuring me into setting up convoluted schemes that turned out to be mostly useless and are a nightmare to unravel.
FriendlyNormie··on Teardown of a $1.25 LED Lightbulb
The guy I replied to spent 3 years thinking downvotes didn’t exist on this site simply because he wasn’t enough of a windbag to earn 500 karma. That’s not fun, it’s a tragedy. What would be fun is a discussion that leads to them changing this lame rule. Quiet people shouldn’t be punished for being quiet.
FriendlyNormie··on Teardown of a $1.25 LED Lightbulb

FriendlyNormie··on Facebook asks for a moat of regulations it already meets
Anti-vaxxers are relentlessly criticized everywhere. They don’t have a protective social bubble. The criticism they receive from people they assume are brainwashed idiots only strengthens their beliefs.
FriendlyNormie··on FAA faces dilemma over 737 Max wiring flaw that Boeing missed
These sensors cannot possibly be expensive to build. Why aren’t there one hundred sensors on each plane? Trust whatever the majority of sensors report, notify that outliers need to be serviced.
FriendlyNormie··on Apple store workers should be paid for time waiting to be searched, court rules
Does Apple really have a “process” for picking items up? I ordered a maxed out iMac Pro for around $15,000 and waited nearly a month for it to finally arrive at the store. I got a voice mail and an email instructing me to come pick it up. Only upon driving all the way to the store was I finally informed in person that they “accidentally” gave my iMac Pro to the wrong customer an hour ago who had merely ordered a base model iMac. Their solution was to reorder mine and I’d need to wait yet another month to get it. I don’t really see how it’s possible to hand an online order to the wrong customer. The customer name is in large bold text on the barcode sticker on the box that they scan before completing the sale. The employees weren’t able to explain how it happened. They didn’t even try to articulate a process by which they would discover who was responsible. Just told me they were totes sorry and stuff.

They went to great lengths to avoid any communication about the theft taking place through Apple’s systems. They intentionally made me waste my time to come in person before telling me what would happen next.

I believe an Apple Store employee knew what orders were coming to the store and he wanted mine for himself, so he conspired with his friend to come pick it up for the price of a base model iMac.

I was recently interested in buying a maxed out Mac Pro for 50k+ but this experience has frightened me into avoiding expensive custom orders from Apple. Furthermore I don’t want to risk some rogue employee’s goons taking it to the next level by physically attacking me and robbing me on the way to my car. I’m probably not going to order a Mac Pro until I can find bodyguards to hire to escort me from the store through the shopping center and to my car. Which means I’ll probably never order a Mac Pro. None of this is sarcasm or hyperbole.

Are you listening, Tim? Probably not.

FriendlyNormie··on Cotton Candy (2010)
Can any of the 60+ people who upvoted this explain why they did so?
FriendlyNormie··on Space Frigates
It’s unplayable and barely functional. Do you actually like it, or you just like the idea of what it could be?

There has been a multiplayer websocket .io game renaissance ongoing since 2016. Hundreds of multiplayer websocket games have been released in that time and they’re all objectively better than this, tech stack included. People like you are acting like this never happened, and I don’t know how you could actually be unaware of it. Some multiplayer websocket games such as slither.io are a worldwide phenomenon on par with Pokémon Go in terms of popularity.

In light of all that, I’m asking why you think this is cool because it doesn’t make sense to me.

FriendlyNormie··on Microgravity.io
Why isn’t anyone upvoting this? It’s a rock solid polished multiplayer browser space game created by two teenagers in their free time. Inspiring, right? Yet the other day some undeniably terrible and unplayable garbage called Space Frigates received 179 upvotes and reached the front page. Also worth noting is the Show HN post of the Pickle Rick text console which was objectively depressingly bad and for some reason was also upvoted to the front page last week.

Is it just that people here feel they can relate more to embarrassingly bad unfinished mediocre experimental projects because it’s what they are usually creating themselves? I’m not trying to sound mean, it’s an honest question. I’m trying to understand why people vote the way they do here. Do people have such a strong preference of feeling like they are participating in a real-time show-and-tell of their own unfinished projects that they’ll actively avoid upvoting actual polished completed products since those shatter the illusion?

FriendlyNormie··on MacBook 16-inch Fan Noise (2019)
He didn’t say anything about the keyboard. He only made a negative comment about the Touch Bar.

Who are you defending the keyboard against? No one anywhere complains about the keyboard on the new 16”. They complain(ed) about the butterfly keyboards on the older MBPs. Apple themselves implicitly agreed they were garbage by offering free replacements and abandoning the butterfly design.

Your comment and the motivation for posting it is very confusing.

FriendlyNormie··on Space Frigates
Can you be honest, did this actually make the game more fun to you? And why should a pilot, whether in a game or in real space, need to think about conservation of angular momentum when computers can very easily handle that themselves and perform the calculations necessary to emulate simple steering instead?
FriendlyNormie··on Space Frigates
I encountered this innovative feature as well.
FriendlyNormie··on Space Frigates
Computers can take input and handle it however the programmer wants in order to replicate ordinary steering. This is true in both games and in actual space.

Why is everyone in this comment section seemingly unable to say anything negative about Space Frigates? This deserves its own 2 hour documentary.

I’m tempted to submit a random .io game and see how people react.
