It is both work and a job, in this example. But it's an occupied job, where the poster is discussing communal job creation through joint bargaining power rather than a corporate monolith. Your second statement is right on the money.
There's also a vast difference in the types of work being done outside vs in an office; when was the last time you heard someone sing while documenting code?
Except there's no guarantee your phone will even contain a payload. Just the chance that some devices may have it, and there's no way to know for certain. And if they take in even one phone to scan that carries the exploit, it can make past, current and future evidence rendered untrustworthy. It's herd immunity via the prisoner's dilemma.
That element has already been evaluated, and is re-evaluated every time this argument is made.
A private platform is free to censor users as they see fit, as the users are free to A) not use their platform at all, B) use a competing platform, or C) create a competing platform. You are not compelled to post your thoughts on FB, or Hackernews, or anywhere else, nor are you entitled to a platform to do so there.
The flip-side, censorship by gov't, is platform independent. This is where the 1st amendment protects come into play, defending you (and the hosting platform) from gov't suppression regarding political or religious speech. If the USA hosted an official message board, then we could argue comparisons to China.
Because we know the absurd amount of guns that surrounds us at any given time, and are acutely aware of how flimsy hunting and personal protection are as excuses for the intent behind the ownership of small arsenals.
FF is my main browser as well, and the only place where I've ever had to switch to Chrome is for our ERP system's web-based GUI; apparently Rocket, the engine it's based on, has some known issue where it doesn't accept certain letters when input from the keyboard as lowercase. I have no idea why that is, but I still use FF for everything else without incident. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's not even the crux of the issue, so maybe we should get a little introspective about our own qualifications while we're at it. The problem is that negative tests are counted each time, while positives are per-person. So one nurse could account for 100 negative tests, so the presentation is misleading.
Or more likely, it highlights a failing of the civic institutions' responsibilities to properly address the problem themselves, rather than relying on an external service provider, whatever the source. That is to say, in this day and age, a high-trust society should be unnecessary; these are basic services that state and local government need to be addressing, rather than budgeting only for the police department.
I don't see how the supercar analogy is any different than the standard use case of a phone camera vs a standalone.
Sure, a standalone gets you higher resolution, optical zoom, etc, but consider where those photos are most likely to be viewed - you can't get the most from them without going to a special place (printer). You can't make people view them on a PC. Realistically, most people are going to be viewing their photos on their phone, whether they originated there or not, after they've been mushed through facebook or insta's compression anyway. People who own cameras try to rationalize this away but it's true.
Really? In my experience, it's been the opposite; I graduated high school in '06, and had to make a point to unlearn some of those phrases which had become habit, when it finally became clear to me how problematic that actually was. I'm seeing the same thing happen with my younger brother as he enters high school, but to a lesser degree; at least now, it feels tongue-in-cheek rather than simply ignorant. All the same, I'm trying to steer him away from it becoming habit when we game, but when all your peers use a certain vocabulary, it's a struggle.
Take heart! It doesn't help for these forced updates, either. Mine has "partially downloaded" as of this week, and now keeps forgetting that I have a valid copy of Windows at all - it floats an "Activate Windows now!" watermark in the corner of my screen until I try to manually download the rest of the update. :/
Interestingly, I don't see a payout linked to Zerodium directly. What happens if someone they do business with decides they can just grab the keys to the castle directly? I wonder if they'd bargain, or just set another bounty on the individual or group in question.
I'm fairly certain the implication here is that he was not, in fact, checking with Legal or anyone, but simply holding off to make it seem as if he was and it was too late to question.
Have you heard of Armok Vision? It's a 3D visualizer being developed by modders so that you can view your fortress in 3D (I think even in real-time).[1]
The USPS doesn't also own the roads, rivers and skies they transport your package through, and can't blockade people from moving the package themselves, or with another service.
I think if your comment draws downvotes, it would be because it implies that simply because the UK is in a better place overall, that efforts to improve are unnecessary. Just because you're doing okay doesn't mean you shouldn't keep trying to improve. This applies so much more heavily as scale increases, also. A country should always strive to do what is best for its citizens, and for that, we need to always be examining potentially problematic areas.
I feel like this is the entry point to a new piece of dark speculative fiction, in which extreme age is venerated, and the number of goats attached to your back becomes a symbol of your wealth and power.
That's fantastic for you, but not everyone has the luxury of choice. I'm in PA, and the only option we have here is Comcast. Pretty shitty, being forced to choose the lesser of one evil.
>and with mods you can light fires, ride dragons or do whatever you want.
Not to pick on you directly, but this rebuttal seems to come out every time an unfavorable comparison is drawn to Skyrim lately, and it honestly makes no sense to me.
If the comparison is to the base game, which everyone experiences regardless of platform, why would anyone ever consider mods in that comparison? Of course you can do things that aren't in the game if you change the game. I can also add custom reticles to any game I want, provided I have plastic wrap, tape and a marker, but that doesn't imply they're part of the game.
> what if I am cohabiting and want to stop? Do I need to justify to the state that it must now house me and my partner separately at twice the expense? What if I'm faking the separation in order to rent out "my" apartment on the black market and keep living with my partner?
In what way is this anyone's business? In a UBI system, you get, say, $600 a month. That's it. It's cash. No one is asking what you're spending it on. If you want to stop living with someone, you just... do it. Like you do currently. Can't manage it? Get a part-time job on the side to pad your wallet enough to do what you want.
Not trying to bash you, but I think you're misunderstanding the basic concept and assuming a level of government attention that isn't part of the equation.
