CA0DA··on Do Users Write More Insecure Code with AI Assistants?
- Overall, we find that participants who had access to an AI assistant based on OpenAI's codex-davinci-002 model wrote significantly less secure code than those without access.

- Additionally, participants with access to an AI assistant were more likely to believe they wrote secure code than those without access to the AI assistant.

-Furthermore, we find that participants who trusted the AI less and engaged more with the language and format of their prompts (e.g. re-phrasing, adjusting temperature) provided code with fewer security vulnerabilities.

CA0DA··on Freeform: a new app designed for creative collaboration
"Apple Whiteboard"
CA0DA··on Monica: Open-source personal relationship manager
I just saw this recently in Derek Sivers's (of CD Baby fame) book, read here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBpg-CWcHC0
CA0DA··on OneDrive Ad in Windows 11 Logout Menu
As an ex Windows user, I like Linux Mint.
CA0DA··on DuckDuckGo email protection beta now open
Won't lots of services just start blocking *@duck.com email addresses now?
CA0DA··on Ask HN: Is there a spiritual successor to del.icio.us?
I agree. I was using Pinboard for a long time but with the pricing changes and lack of support, I switched to self-hosting LinkAce (https://www.linkace.org).
CA0DA··on Ask HN: Is there a spiritual successor to del.icio.us?
Host your own using LinkAce (https://www.linkace.org)
CA0DA··on How fast is 12th Gen Intel Core?
I'm not sure why the Framework laptop is getting so much credit for being upgradable - the main board upgrade (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mog6T9Rd93I) seems to be an identical process as my Dell Precision 5530.
CA0DA··on ArcGIS Maps SDK brings geospatial data to Unity and Unreal Engine
There's a free tier, not sure if the Unity/Unreal stuff is included in that: https://developers.arcgis.com/pricing/
CA0DA··on Be careful how you pay the bills
What books from the 30s-60s would you recommend?
CA0DA··on Jimmy Carter asks court to defend Alaska’s ‘unrivaled wilderness’
For those simply upvoting without reading the article, this case is more nuanced than the headline may sound:

> Residents in the community of King Cove want to exchange land to build a gravel road through the refuge to provide access to an all-weather airport in nearby Cold Bay for medical transports.

CA0DA··on Ask HN: How to remove YouTube Shorts from subscriptions page?
Try something like:

www.youtube.com##:matches-path(/feed/subscriptions)a#video-title[href*="/shorts"]:upward(5)

CA0DA··on Regex 101
There are lots of tools like this out there, but this one is one of my favorites.
CA0DA··on Hugo is awesome, its documentation is not
Huh, yeah that is disappointing.

I think the stale bot in Hugo repo is overly aggressive. I have had to "fight" the stalebot in the past by posting update messages.

CA0DA··on Hugo is awesome, its documentation is not
This gives a few good examples of how the Hugo documentation could improve (the click-bait word "Sucks" in the title is a bit exaggerated, in my opinion). I would challenge the author to, in the spirit of open source, go ahead and make some of the suggested changes and submit the changes in a Pull Request!
CA0DA··on Write plain text files
Joplin has a wysiwyg editor that stores the actual data as markdown, I like that feature.
CA0DA··on Write plain text files
As you age, your memory deteriorates and you have more experiences to store in it.

I have been keeping daily notes on my work for about 8 years. It's really really really nice for cases where someone asks me something about a customer or technology or solution to a problem and I'm able to pull it up with a quick search.

CA0DA··on MDN Redesign
can you share your custom styles?
CA0DA··on Google Search Is Dying
Kagi search (currently in beta) is actually pretty good.
CA0DA··on I hacked SONOS and YouTube the same day

CA0DA··on Foobar2000
I love foobar. Are there any alternative programs that are similar to Foobar2000 on Linux?
CA0DA··on Donate to the Internet Archive
I used to donate to Wikipedia but then they got bloated/political. I felt bad about my donations and wished I could take them back. Will the Internet Archive avoid this fate?
CA0DA··on We Tweet at Their Pleasure (2018)
This is notable now more than ever. What are the alternatives? Mastodon? Self-hosted blog/microblog (activitypub)?
