@anyone frustrated and willing to try Linux, give Fedora Linux a go. It's a really solid pick for first time users and has great security defaults.
Some people will be nervous because Fedora used to be a 'slightly harder' distro but this is no longer true IMO and I would actually consider it easier for many cases (in particular: stock GNOME is way more consistent than Ubuntu gnome).
If your friend is nagging you to start with an Ubuntu distro, Kubuntu is a really good one for ex Windows users. The KDE desktop actually pioneered some of the desktop patterns that Windows has adopted (and of course vice versa).
One issue I often lament is that their main desktop environment, Cinnamon, is still on X.org only. This would be fine if they sorted the processes being able to see each others windows problem, but they haven't AFAIK.
Edit: Somehow missed your details of Firefox - that kinda makes sense IMO, since those bookmarks are useful for a new user and help them find the community.
I just can't switch my home PC, because I play games and these are sometimes a PITA to get working on Linux even nowadays (in the Steam Deck age).
Sure, if I need a deep-level photo editor like Affinity Photo (or some other occasional-use tool that does not have what I consider a good enough equivalent on Linux), or a situation where I'm bought into ecosystems and particular tools somewhat (music production - plugins + Studio One) I may turn to a secondary machine with another OS. But these are very specific use cases.
For 90%+ of my daily home PC use, it is all Linux.
I am so glad to be out of Microsoft's realm for the most part now. It feels good not dealing with the BS of Windows. Computing is enjoyable again.
If Canonical ever crosses a threshold where I feel like they're becoming too much like the corporate operating systems, I'll switch to something else, and switching will be relatively easy.
