I use snapchat, but I actually hate the app. It's a bloated memory and battery hog in my opinion. Is Adaptive Battery going to think I love Snapchat and prioritize more system resources for it just because I use it? Cause I want the exact opposite to happen. I want Snapchat using 0% of my system resources except for the few times a day when I check my snaps.
Also I hate losing control of my system in favor of some nebulous decision making criteria I can't control (ML)
People are easily emotionally manipulated. Show some pictures of cancer or disfigured babies and you can get everyone to rail against nuclear. Media does it all the time to skew our priorities. Think medical malpractice and healthcare is a big source of death in the US? Think again, bump stocks and crappy 3d printed plastic guns are the types of killers you should be worried about according to the media. Rinse and repeat.
It's not that we "think" those buildings are old. They are the oldest. There are no older buildings. Age is relative. If you colonize a pacific island, the oldest building will be 1 year old. That doesn't mean the colonizers think 1 year is a long time.
If you want to get into a manhood measuring contest we could broaden the criteria to include native american structures.
Maybe part of the reason there is no "Silicon Valley" of Europe is cultural? This attitude will have a chilling effect on anything that requires risk...
Perhaps the observation of government wastefulness is conflated with feeling overtaxed. There are two ways the government can raise more money:
1) Raise taxes
2) Use existing taxes more efficiently
If you look at where the tax money is going, infrastructure is one of the smallest pieces of the pie. Why not divert defense and/or social service tax to infrastructure for a few years?
Unsure if you are a part of the viral campaign yourself or if it was just a subtle joke...
That might be true of Naples, but definitely not Rome. The perfect Roman pizza is rectangular focaccia style.
Is is discrimination to require a fitness test be taken for certain jobs/insurance?
Pompous social engineer blog post: "Dunkin Donuts is laughably insecure. I was able to steal lots of donuts by lying and abusing the trust of employees. Hahaha, Dunkin Donuts security sucks, what a joke. They don't even question that my story was completely fake and that I was just a good actor, what a trash company"

I bought a Macbook Pro in 2010. Eventually I realized I only used my laptop for internet-related tasks, mainly when I was traveling or in my living room (instead of my office). After my MBP's battery degraded and I had to replace the hard drive cable I threw in the towel and bought a Chromebook for less than 1/10 the cost of the MBP. Not only has the Chromebook lasted longer (more years) than the MBP, I've never had a single maintenance issue with it, and it serves my needs just as well as the MBP, if not better.
So the question is, why pay 10x the price for power and features you will barely even use or notice? I could buy a stack of 10 Chromebooks for the price of 1 MBP, which, at the current rate, would last me 50 years. Same goes for smartphones. I can buy a stack of five Nokia 6 phones for the price of 1 iPhone. This is a no brainer for financially sensitive people.
People are only idiots if they take something that is only obviously meant for non-sustainable income, try to turn it into their livelihood, and then act surprised/outraged when it isn't sustainable. I kind of got this vibe from ride sharing - I never thought it would be sustainable as a full-time job, I thought it was more for just some fun side income.
