yelnatz··on 1 bug, $50k in bounties, a Zendesk backdoor
Kids who are smart and curious have already been exposed to the internet since they were 8/9 years old. So a few years of learning they're already knowledgeable by the time they're in their teens.

No responsibilities and all the time in the world to learn with the right circumstances, they can go far.

Older devs who are experts in this area are already busy making money and working on their employer's security.

yelnatz··on Major Microsoft 365 outage caused by Azure configuration change
They allow a 3rd party to change Kernel stuff with an update. Apple banned this a while ago.
yelnatz··on Rogers networks reliability and resiliency assessment after 2022-07-08 outage
Hilarious. Rogers runs the internet and phone lines so when it went down, the devs couldn't:

1) Remote into the boxes to see what's happening.

2) Talk to other devs because their phones are on Rogers network.

My stress couldn't.

yelnatz··on Microsoft shelves its underwater data center
With an improvement of 87.5% to reliability compared to land-based data centers.

I wonder what factors led them to discontinue the project.

yelnatz··on EA: The Human Story (2004)
I left last year after working there for ~8 years.

It's night and day; EA when I left was a great place to work at. Work life balance was a priority, a lot of communication from execs, coworkers were great.

My only gripe with them is the revolving door of contractors, QA and devs alike.

yelnatz··on Thoughts on the potato diet
Did you lose weight while on it? Any benefits you noticed?
yelnatz··on Do kwon sent $80M a month to secret wallets?
It seems like his actions of secretly sending money triggered money laundering suspicions from the SEC.

But yea, this is fraud/embezzlement/wire fraud.

yelnatz··on Do kwon sent $80M a month to secret wallets?
Can someone explain why this is money laundering? Trying to understand what laws he's breaking.
yelnatz··on The Return of New York Harbor’s Oysters
I wanted pictures of the oysters but instead I got pictures of a guy staring at my soul.
yelnatz··on Epic Games is making hundreds of temp testers into full employees with benefits
EA needs this. Spent a decade there and have seen many QA testers treated like shit. Low pay and no future.

yelnatz··on Canada's 'gamble' on delaying, mixing and matching Covid-19 vaccines paid off
I have mixed vaccinations since I'm in BC. Hopefully I get a third booster shot so I can be considered fully vaccinated in the states.
yelnatz··on Steve Jobs tried to convince Dell to license Mac software
Michael Dell went on John Calacanis' podcast last week too, discussing the book. It was a pretty good listen.

Jobs wanted a cut on every PC sold if the deal went through. That was too much for Dell since they were selling so much PCs already, so it fell through.

yelnatz··on How Discord Stores Billions of Messages (2017)
Well it solved a lot of pain points with the target market.

I remember my friends and I kept bickering who would pay for this month's bill for the vent/mumble servers. That kept on for years until I had enough and hosted my own in a droplet in digital ocean. None of my friends knew how to do that since they're not very technical.

Discord you just had to click a couple buttons and its free.

yelnatz··on Stanford CS Curriculum 2021
Thanks for clarifying.

I was like damn they require 4 graphics courses? I avoided those like a plague.

yelnatz··on Bitcoin is failing at becoming the future of money
It was getting there.

I remember Bitcoin was getting a wider adoption for payment back in 2013ish. I paid for my domain from namecheap in Bitcoin back then.

But it then blew up and everyone treated it more as a store of value and it made all the shops stop accepting it as payment due to its volatility.

It's implying it was inserted on purpose... (Sorry had to look up that meaning.)
