ycdxvjp··on Poorer Countries Will Find It Harder to Get Richer
We have surplus billionaires and millionaires in rich countries, and they need be picked through a lottery system and shipped to poorer areas of the world. This is what Chat GPT 4.0 is recommending currently.
ycdxvjp··on Amazon R&D spending is more than that of all companies and government of France
Compare Capex. That's a better indicator of long term spending.
ycdxvjp··on AI Will Transform the Global Economy. Let's Make Sure It Benefits Humanity
Well IMF just keep tabs on the AI billionaire/millionaire underling production rate every quarter. If it's going up then AI is definitely doing something dumb and unnecessary. To fix track them down and ship them off to China's jack ma center of reeducation. And humanity will be just fine.
ycdxvjp··on The young people sifting through the internet's worst horrors
The issue is less about detection and more about the sheer volume of content. Even if your false positives and negative rates are low the numbers are huge. Which is why everyone ends up hiring more and more people as content volume increases.

What has changed over the years is - the cost to spam the entire world with zillion messages a second is tending to ZERO.

While this is an achievement it's also a disaster cause it's akin to everyone having an almost free high power broadcast transmitter sitting on their roof.

We regulate and auction radio spectrum and don't allow everyone on the planet to broadcast simultaneously on what ever frequency they want. Cause the noise would make signal drop to 0. But on the internet it's allowed and it's almost free.

ycdxvjp··on Why Instagram failed to become TikTok
Both are doing the same thing we saw happening to real-estate leading up to the 2008 meltdown.

Replace real estate with Attention and its the same story. Attention is finite just like Land. There is only so much of it that can be sold limited by money supply in the system. Once that limit is reached cook up bullshit to keep selling real estate and in this case view counts up.

Interesting difference is it's not just about bubble bursting but also info sewage accumulating in people's heads through this notion that info flow into people's heads can forever increase.

ycdxvjp··on Google lays off hundreds working on its voice-activated assistant
It's feasible. I have done it. Moved to Singapore and now in South Korea with family. I think experienced people have lot of interesting options. Many don't look.
ycdxvjp··on News could end up as Art important to few elites marginal to the rest
For CIA Factbook and Wiki, the focus is on All Information about a subject.

For News orgs the focus is on New Infotmation.

So even though news orgs have professional trained info collectors, and have good access to networks that produce Info they don't think of them selves as a Wiki or Factbook. Why?

Cause legacy + they are taught media theory not information theory + tech platforms are not taught either and control distribution of info.

But things change as people learn the system is a waste and noise generating. Learning takes time.

ycdxvjp··on Big Tech has already made enough money in 2024 to pay all its 2023 fines
There is an endless supply of corporate robots to replace them.

Instead there are options:

1. Govt walks in and just nationalizes them ala Japan post world war 2 where Mitsubishi, Sumimoto etc where just turned into puppets over night As in hostile takeover to influence how they use their loot.

2. Govt can then use the SpaceX model to disrupt brick and mortar sectors world wide (cement, steel, ships, planes, energy, fertilizer etc etc). The test will be bringing prices down of everything not just for Americans or the west but for everyone. other wise immigration waves just like the drugs flowing into the west will never stop.

Tech is supposed to fuck prices up. Google once upon a time did it for email, chat, video, search etc. I don't see why it can't happen with everything. We need grand goals not just how to add 6 more cameras into another fucking phone.

ycdxvjp··on A Planet of Parasites and the Problem with God
Hmm...can/does an ecosystem exist without parasites?

Parasite meaning something taking more out of a system than giving back to it. Fear might not even be experienced or required or involved as with our gut parasites.

ycdxvjp··on US unemployment has been under 4% for the longest streak since the Vietnam War
It works so well cause US has had low interest rates for decades. You have to plot unemployment against credit growth and interest rates.

Hiring people with easy cheap money is not complicated. You don't need to spend your profits on people. Push profits into real estate/stocks/bonds etc. Inflate prices of all them then use them as collateral to take on more cheap debt and keep your plebs employed running on mindless hamster wheels.

ycdxvjp··on The U.S. added 216,000 jobs in December, much better than expected
Feels like the effects of the IRA and Chips act will pump up construction jobs as factories get built in the short term.

But whether all that activity generates products and supply chains that are globally competitive is still a big question. I don't think the US is anywhere close to being out of the woods.

ycdxvjp··on With revenue declining, Mozilla CEO gets a 20% raise
Too many technical people talk without being capable of generating revenue.

Instead of developing that finance capability lets cry about how others are supposed to raise funds and hand it to us. Its pure nonsense.

Tech folk who get into details of raising cash are the only ones who have impact. The rest are useless loudmouths.

ycdxvjp··on NYPD overtime pay in the subway went from $4M to $155M this year
Got to make Wall St rentiers feel snug from a potential pitchfork moment.
ycdxvjp··on Tech Billionaires Need to Stop Trying to Make the SciFi They Grew Up on Real
In The Third Wave, Alvin Toffler describes three types of societies, based on the concept of "waves"—each wave pushes the older societies and cultures aside. He describes the "First Wave" as the society after agrarian revolution and replaced the first hunter-gatherer cultures. The "Second Wave," he labels society during the Industrial Revolution (ca. late 17th century through the mid-20th century). That period saw the increase of urban industrial populations which had undermined the traditional nuclear family, and initiated a factory-like education system, and the growth of the corporation. Toffler said:

The Second Wave Society is industrial and based on mass production, mass distribution, mass consumption, mass education, mass media, mass recreation, mass entertainment, and weapons of mass destruction. You combine those things with standardization, centralization, concentration, and synchronization, and you wind up with a style of organization we call bureaucracy.

The "Third Wave" was a term he coined to describe the post-industrial society. For features of Third Wave see

ycdxvjp··on [dead]
Youtube engagement algos according to the UN report on the Attention Economy are the real issue. It has grown to signal to the population that views = quality.

Unfortunately in these debates Focus jumps to the content creator and their fan club giving the Platforms a free pass on what is Quality.

ycdxvjp··on The Department of Housing and Urban Development should build housing
If the govt gets into housing the calculus changes. See public housing in Austria or Singapore.
ycdxvjp··on EU should prepare for war by end of decade, German Defence Minister warns
He has taken a decade to take 4 provinces of Ukraine that no one in Germany cares about. At that pace he will be long dead before he gets to the German border. Mental bankruptcy sacrificing the nord stream pipeline, and industry taking a giant hit to spend time planning to defend Moldova. Germans have squandered away their position of strength just reacting and counter reacting for no sane reason.
ycdxvjp··on EU should prepare for war by end of decade, German Defence Minister warns
This German defense minister was birthed in a US MIL complex vat. Good thing this brain dead govt is going to fall soon.
ycdxvjp··on 'Tranq tourism': TikTokers travel to film drug users
The UN report on the Attention Economy quotes a study that says 0.5% of content produced is consumed by anyone and dropping.

Platforms don't advertise it and have created a totally absurd industry where the limits of Consumption has no impact on the limits of Production. So there is no journalism going on.

Content explodes and finite Attention fragments into smaller and smaller bits so Content Producers view counts stay up with ever diluting short lived impact.

Consumption is not being measured right. If the you get a single viewer who then goes and reads 50 other things you are really getting 1/50th of that view. Self serving content producers and platforms don't talk about it at all.

It's like watching home builders debating what they are building before the subprime meltdown.

ycdxvjp··on Escaping Poverty Requires Almost 20 Years with Nearly Nothing Going Wrong (2017)
Well Google managed to drop prices of email, chat, video, search etc to 0. Tech is capable of pushing prices down without debt piling up. But ofcourse as soon as they tried to get into stuff like Telcom or Retail or Auto they flubbed.

If a tech company manages to succeed in brick and motor space or banking we might end up with something we haven't seen before.

ycdxvjp··on Ask HN: Netflix doing mass layoffs today?
Tech that works over time is supposed to reduce the Price of a good or service.

Tech workers and their lifestyles are not sustainable if the Tech actually does that.

ycdxvjp··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
The only take that made any sense to me about what's going on there - https://michael-hudson.com/2023/11/israel-as-a-landed-aircra...
ycdxvjp··on Deep in the wilderness, the largest beaver dam endures
Since he ends the article on a positive not...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niche_construction niche construction feedback loops have unpredictable consequences. It's not always positive or predictable.

ycdxvjp··on Show HN: I Remade the Fake Google Gemini Demo, Except Using GPT-4 and It's Real
As a deaf person I have been watching "live" speech recognition demos for 20-30 years. All look great. Using it in day to day life is crazy cause if you have 1 mistake per 10 words it builds up over time to be supremely annoying.
ycdxvjp··on He blew the whistle on Amazon. He's still paying the price
It keeps the MIL complex revenues up. Things only make sense after you add how the cash flows. It corrupts everthing in multiple ways at mutiple levels. Mil complex pays no price for bad outcomes. They benefit from them.
ycdxvjp··on China's Xi goes full Stalin with purge
The "secretive" part given the sheer size of China is the mystery. How do they even keep it under wraps? Stalin's time there were a handful of hubs to control. In China there are hundreds of power centers.
