Where'd you get that from?

yaomtc··on The music player you wish you had in the early 2000s
Some older portable media players are supported by Rockbox, which supports Opus. Unclear if there's any supported devices currently in production. As for SD cards, I know SanDisk devices on that list supported microSD cards.

yaomtc··on Make Apps for Linux
Nonsense. Fixing a typo or amending a command somewhere in the middle are obvious use cases.
yaomtc··on World of Goo 2
Maybe it's Android 14 that prevents it from installing? That's what I have. How recently did you install it on that device?
yaomtc··on World of Goo 2
From what I can tell, it's because the original game was not updated for newer versions of Android. I went to the Play Store, switched to my older Google account, and found it in "manage apps" by switching to "not installed", selecting the "games" filter, and scrolling to the bottom, where World of Goo (the original) says "not available for device". Tapping it shows the listing, where it says "Your device isn't compatible with this version"

Google Play used to show when an app was last updated. This appears to longer be the case. However a reviewer says it has been "abandoned since 2013", which explains why Google Play won't let me play it on a Pixel 6a, with an Android version 10 years newer.

Android just doesn't have the backwards compatibility of Windows or Linux.

yaomtc··on World of Goo 2
Still in my Steam library.
yaomtc··on World of Goo 2
It came to iPad a year before iPhone likely for that reason. Maybe the smaller screen needed a zoom-in feature?

By a huge margin, hydrogen is the most common thing in the universe, but yes, life might be one of the most common things in the universe.
yaomtc··on One year later, the problem with social media is clear: PEBKAC
Using an uncommon initialism without once explaining it is a poor practice.

> Phrases used by the tech savvy to mean that a problem is caused entirely by the fault of the user include PEBKAC (an acronym for "problem exists between keyboard and chair")

yaomtc··on Who makes the most reliable new cars?
> car safety has drastically improved

Safety between cars, and within cars, has improved. However, due to the increasing size of the average vehicle on the road, among other factors, car safety for pedestrians/cyclists has decreased.

They didn't say DRM-free. No major movie studios have released DRM-free downloads of their films to my knowledge.

yaomtc··on Fixing the volume on my Bluetooth earbuds
Speaking of aftershox how about disabling the absolutely useless "redial last number" function... I've accidentally triggered that like three times. I would never ever want this feature.

Actually, one of those times was on a different bluetooth headset so it's not Aftershox specific... just the unreasonably locked down, uncustomizable nature of Bluetooth devices I guess!

yaomtc··on Alternatives to Adobe
Strange layout. The header line stretches across the width of the window, but I can only scroll down the page if the cursor is hovering over that column. Restricting your text to a narrow column is fine, but restricting scrolling is just odd

yaomtc··on Automatic emergency braking should become mandatory, feds say
Periodic re-testing to keep your license should become mandatory. 50% of federal transportation funding going to transit and related projects should become mandatory. Getting as many cars off the road as possible in the coming years should become mandatory. Reduced speed limits in cities across the country should become mandatory.

If pedestrian detection "doesn't work very well" as the linked article* says, we need to take the simple, practical approaches that we know will have an impact, and stop sacrificing lives to the altar of convenience and the "American Dream".
