yankcrime··on We're giving out free 1CPU, 2GB, 10GB SSD -servers, celebrating our launch.
Registration page (from the email link once you've signed up) appears to be broken on Safari on my iPad. Basically every character entered causes the page to refresh and hide the keyboard.

Otherwise I've just signed up and like the look so far - the control panel and machine deployment is clearly presented and straightforward.

yankcrime··on Vim After 11 Years
Am I the only one who doesn't like iTerm 2 because it feels slow to use? Example: Open up a file in vim, then scroll up and down quickly. The refresh on iTerm 2 is noticeably sluggish compared to Terminal.app.
yankcrime··on Petition: Stop bundling crapware with Java
If you do a clean install of Windows 8, several of the bundled applications - such as Weather - have adverts placed in them.
yankcrime··on Petition: Stop bundling crapware with Java
By bundling advert-ridden applications with their latest OS, Microsoft aren't really all that far off the mark from your comment.
yankcrime··on The case for the iPad as a creation device.
I'm a keyboard snob; My 'daily drivers' are two HHKB Pro IIs (one at home, one at work) on which I average about ~ 110 WPM, maybe 120 on a good day. On my iPad, I can get up to about half that without trying too hard - which I think is actually pretty good given the lack of any tactile feedback. While certainly suboptimal, I don't consider it to be anything like "abysmal".
yankcrime··on Gentoo developers start udev fork
So we're saying that every Unix and Unix-like implementation in recent times that supports and indeed advocates [1] placing /usr, /tmp, /var, and so on on seperate filesystems have done so because the developers are unskilled novices with no understanding or experience of the problem at hand? Sorry, I think it's entirely the wrong term.

yankcrime··on E17 (Enlightenment) enters alpha after 12 years
I was a huge fan / dedicated user of E16 back in the day. Someone needs to prod Garrett LeSage, tigert, et al and get them to update their old themes (SpiffE17 please Garrett!).
yankcrime··on Assorted thoughts on the Apple event
It'll be interesting to see what the reviews are like and how many people play down the occasionally poor UI performance that seems to plague the 15" model.

I'm itching to replace my MacBook Air with a machine that sports a Retina display, but as it stands I think I'll have to wait for the next generation with better performing graphics that can do the resolution justice.

yankcrime··on A Return to Linux on the Workstation
No, the switch was from Solaris on his workstation - not OS X.
yankcrime··on Screenshots of every prompt theme in the oh-my-zsh framework
Just tapping a letter (so 'a', 'b' or whatever) automatically completes matching themes from the list of what's available, which kind of helps if all you wanted to do was browse. But yeah, it'd be nicer if you could just view the lot.
yankcrime··on A Powerline-style prompt for Bash
Clever, but Powerline-themed context around your current shell environment seems more suited to implementation in something like tmux - see https://github.com/erikw/tmux-powerline or http://www.drbunsen.org/text-triumvirate.html

Depends which version you're talking about. The 'regular', non-pro HHKB is not a quality item and uses very cheap keyswitches. The HHKB Pro / Pro 2 uses the highly-regarded Topre keyswitches but this is reflected in the price. The layout differs slightly, too.

I own two HHKB Pro 2's and absolutely love them. The quality of the keyswitches is pretty much legendary by now, the build of the keyboard itself is decent enough but nothing to write home about. It's really all about the layout and the Topre switches.

yankcrime··on Apple Support Allowed Hacker Access to Reporter's iCloud Account
You need to disable 'Find my Mac' under iCloud's settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2697
yankcrime··on The IPS LCD Revolution
... Which is a 23" screen and has a native resolution of 1920x1080. How does this compare again?

Nope, this is (was?) his profile: https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=there

yankcrime··on Incredibox - Background music for programming.
Late to the party on this, but I highly recommend the imaginatively titled musicForProgramming(); over here: http://musicforprogramming.net/
yankcrime··on Emulation und Decompilation of the Arcade Hit "OutRun"
Best thing about Outrun? The music.
yankcrime··on TylerWM - a tiling window manager for OSX
There's also Moom [1], but the reliance on arrow keys for most of the key-based functionality is annoying. I've mailed the author to ask if this could be configurable (so that I could use hjkl instead), no reply as yet though.

Edit: Developer replied, turns out this functionality is already there - problem solved (for me)!

yankcrime··on Apple announces Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
It's duplicated for me. A conversation I had with a friend via iMessage and his iPhone sync'd up on my phone a few minutes later.
yankcrime··on UK network o2 send your number to every site you visit
O2 / iPhone here. My number doesn't appear in the HTTP headers sent.
yankcrime··on Das Keyboard now pre-ordering Mac version of their mechanical keyboard
Plenty of companies (Filco, Leopold, PFU / Fujitsu (Happy Hacking), Topre, etc.) offer 'tenkeyless' versions of their boards that are without the numeric keypad.
yankcrime··on Sublime Text 2 Beta released with Auto-complete and Improved UI
And here's the little mode-specific map I use:

yankcrime··on Ask HN: Your code editor, black on white or white on black?
Yup, Solarized Light for me.
yankcrime··on The most expensive coding font for free?
It is - it's actually my screenshot!
yankcrime··on Amstrad CPC emulator in Javascript
Fantastic, now I can slip in the odd game of Target Renegade whilst at work!
yankcrime··on What to expect in OpenBSD 5.0 onwards
This already happens to a greater extent than maybe you realise. Witness FreeBSD's adoption of OpenBSD's pf, and so on. Each of the three 'main' BSDs (Free, Net, Open) have a very different focus in terms of the direction of each project, and these idealistic differences - especially when you throw people like Theo de Raadt into the mix - will mean that it's always going to be fragmented in such a manner.

I kind of like it that way, personally.

yankcrime··on Textmate 2 - Alpha this year
What did going from MacVim to vim buy you, exactly?
yankcrime··on Why "create application shortcut" doesn't work on OS X Chrome
So what exactly is "awful and ancient" about Fluid.app?
