yankcrime··on “Reclaim Windows 10” Powershell Script
OP's comment around Candy Crush has nothing to do with Lenovo and everything to do with Microsoft. It happens - by default - on clean installs of Windows 10.

yankcrime··on Vim 8.0 released
Just in case - I should probably have said "It's simply a case of $ brew update && brew install --HEAD vim".

It's happily just compiled and installed for me.

yankcrime··on Vim 8.0 released
If you're using Homebrew[1], then it's simply a case of:

$ brew install --HEAD vim

yankcrime··on Why I Live in IRC (2015)
FWIW there's a really good Slack plugin for Weechat called wee-slack [0]. It uses the Slack API (as opposed to their IRC gateway) and so is surprisingly full featured.

yankcrime··on Hammerspoon – Powerful automation of OS X with Lua
I think the problem really is Apple's use of the term "maximise" doesn't mean what it does on other platforms, and really it's a misnomer entirely. "Optimise" would be a better adjective, and its behaviour differs slightly depending on the app. For example, in Safari it'll resize the browser window to what it thinks is best for the content you're viewing.

Thankfully, tools like you've discovered address this behaviour and add a lot of other useful window management features anyway.

yankcrime··on Hammerspoon – Powerful automation of OS X with Lua
It works just fine on OS X 10.11 [1]. Holding down 'option' while you hover over the green traffic light icon changes the glyph to a '+'. Clicking it maximises the window.

That group of people was Apple. They threw their weight behind the CUPS project in the early 2000s, hired the main developer, and continued to finance its development.
yankcrime··on SGI screen fonts converted for OS X
There was at one point an effort to port the entire "Indigo Magic" (i.e including all Motif toolkits etc.) / 4DWM desktop to Linux. It made some progress early on but then it seemed to evaporate into vapourware. The website is still online but doesn't appear to have been updated since ~ 2007: http://5dwm.org

There were two offerings as far as "SunGrid" was concerned - either the public-facing 'retail' iteration powered by N1GE which was launched as network.com ("$1 per CPU per hour!") and also a B2B commercial version which offered a lot more flexibility, i.e run your Linux distribution on Sun's hardware. The latter was built at scale using AMD Opteron-based SunFire V20z's for compute, for example.

The former certainly suffered from platform constraints and a fairly rigid 'stack', but the latter was far more flexible and various teams within Sun worked closely with several potential customers on the proof of concept. Unfortunately this fell apart thanks mainly due to the commercials and some concerns with how the platform was configured within the context of security and ensuring appropriate segregation of data.

Why? It's part of the creative process - a good photographer will consider all tools available to them, including post-processing, in order to achieve the shot they envisage.
yankcrime··on John Carmack joins Oculus as CTO
Looks like his first job as CTO should be to fix the website's scalability ;)
yankcrime··on FreeBSD co-founder Jordan Hubbard leaves Apple to join iXsystems
Yeah, similar story for me - Jordan was pretty active on the FreeBSD UKUG mailing lists at the time, I remember him announcing his move to Apple and that prompted me to finally pull the trigger on a shiny new Powerbook.

Apple's oftentimes half-assed open-source dalliances aside, it's always felt good to have someone legit like Jordan at Apple. Definitely their loss - but hopefully he'll do good things at iXsystems.

yankcrime··on Why We Can No Longer Trust Microsoft
Yes - especially when you recall that projects like OpenBSD have previously [0] been accused of having backdoors in its IPsec stack, as an example.

Edit: I should add that it does work fine if you place the generated output into /etc/motd instead. The article argues that might not be the best place for it, I'll leave that for you to decide however.
