xnerdr··on 24in60.com: The last 24 hours in 60-second, unbiased news bites.
Looks like a blogger figured out the Google news alerts "email me" feature.
xnerdr··on Tell HN: Use Pop-Up Log-In Forms and People Can't Use LastPass to Log in
Are the imgur links the wrong way round?
xnerdr··on This is What Irony Tastes Like: Capcom and the PSN Outage
I agree Keyle. This is exactly what I said above and got greyed out for (deleted post above). I don't have time to read useless crap on here. I come here for good, useful content about startups and tech.

HN is very easy to shill vote up on own posts though, and I suggest thats what is happening here. A large part of its quality came from its obscurity.

It's becoming famous and its time to make a new one.

xnerdr··on Thanks HN: Readable is doing very very well
Hello,

Although many content pieces on the internet are provided completely free, some of the content producers make a living from the advertising revenue their work provides. Without that revenue, they would stop producing their interesting articles.

Your application circumvents this revenue stream.

How do you feel about this?

xnerdr··on In Fifty Days, Payments Innovation Will Stop In Silicon Valley
If you run a node on Bitcoin, aren't you technically a payment processor?

I wouldn't be surprised if this is step 1 of a 3 step plan on Bitcoin takedown. Clever too I might add, so props to whoever came up with it.

xnerdr··on Find Out if You’re a Target in the Biggest U.S. BitTorrent Lawsuit Ever
This would make an amazing honeypot.
xnerdr··on Google lobbies Nevada to allow driverless cars
Who would be responsible if an accident happens?
xnerdr··on Google to Announce Chrome Laptops for Students - $20/Month
In my Adwords experience I can safely say Google has the worst customer experience I have ever known. It makes Ebay look good.

Buyers should note these are cheap because they're going to be tracking your every move. Every site you visit and everything you type will be logged using the autocomplete function as it already is within Chrome.

xnerdr··on Ask HN: Just quit my job to work on a startup idea. Any advice?
I'll add: Make an extra special effort to stay in touch with friends.
xnerdr··on [dead]
Let's say you're having an affair. Hypothetically of course...would this then show your wife your new "friend"?
xnerdr··on How TheLadders.com scam works
Not really, but people like to think it does. Also the Panda update led many to believe they need a 2000 word article minimum. Which is just plain wrong.
xnerdr··on Y Combinator Accepts Record 60+ New Startups For Summer 2011
Do you have a link to "the essays of PG"? I'd be interested in checking them out...
xnerdr··on Microsoft to acquire Skype
On a side note, why has no serious competitor to Skype appeared? Given the maturity of the tech involved (its just VOIP) and the size of the pie, i'd have thought there would be more competition for a slice.
xnerdr··on The Thousand Year Game Design Challenge
Do you have a link to even one of these? I tried looking for these and couldn't find one...
xnerdr··on Congress Bans Some Scientific Collaboration with China, Citing Espionage Risk
The resources of the world are finite (as is it's energy allowance), so i'm afraid that toilet paper supply is indeed limited. You're about to see this in a very real way as food prices dramatically increase in the following years.
xnerdr··on What Makes A Great Startup Employee?
It's a nice quote, but is it necessarily true?
xnerdr··on Show HN: Social Minecraft clone with shooting
Thats pretty good! Add some textures and weapons and you should be good to go.

Good luck!

xnerdr··on Congress Bans Some Scientific Collaboration with China, Citing Espionage Risk
Life is cruel. You have one piece of toilet paper. Will you use it for yourself or give to a stranger?
xnerdr··on Congress Bans Some Scientific Collaboration with China, Citing Espionage Risk
I don't because I am not chinese and will not share in the wealth of such enterprising behaviour. You can never become a chinese citizen unless you are born there. Never.
xnerdr··on Bitcoin iOS app open sourced
For those interested in Bitcoin right now (mostly geeks) i'd say the % of jailbroken iDevices is much higher, i'd throw 80% out as a guess.
xnerdr··on Congress Bans Some Scientific Collaboration with China, Citing Espionage Risk
I say it's at least 2 years too late. China has taken the Military and Industrial tech it needed to get up to speed and is now innovating without us.
xnerdr··on Facebook Takes 31.2% of the U.S. Ad Display Market
I still say it's pretty much over for Google. http://nerdr.com/facebook-eats-googles-lunch-by-2012/

They're being out played on their primary revenue stream and facebook isn't even breaking a sweat.

xnerdr··on Four Canadian university students elected to Parliament
Although this sounds like great news, I'd suggest it's not. Reasons being, yes it brings energy to government, but also inexperience. Further, it shows the ridiculousness of "elected representatives" when no one has heard of them (they're elected because their party is wanted in government, not because of their particular talents in politics as individuals) and as one commentator says, the representative didn't even turn up at their own celebration. Democracy in it's current form in Canada is a joke.
xnerdr··on The daily lunch delivery of India's dabbawallahs
What you are seeing is minimum wage laws in action. They drive up unemployment during difficult times (recession) and should be lowered according to economic theory. But they aren't as its a sign of weakness. If the minimum wage was $2 an hour say, a vast number of currently unemployed workers would quickly find themselves with work to earn honest money, delivering you delicious home cooked meals.
xnerdr··on Everybody loves a good snog – Finding sentiment in the UK via Twitter
This information would be much more valuble with data for a "normal" day. For example, Is the main bump around noon just a regular lunch high?
xnerdr··on Bitcoin hits US$ 4, after being mentioned on CNN yesterday
As a bitcoin veteren, what, if any, do you expect will be the US reaction once it becomes big enough to cause problems?
xnerdr··on Facebook eats Googles lunch by 2012
Sorry, I meant the email functionality is 1 step and trivial, since they already have an inbox system in place. The search would be much more difficult to do well of course, but i'd suggest a recommendation based search (like Google +1) could be up and running within a year quite easily given their resources.
xnerdr··on Facebook eats Googles lunch by 2012
I've found the opposite case when advertising my app on both networks. Conversions were about the same, but cost per click was about 4x on google. Its a $4.99 one off payment app, so its possible different revenue models find one or the other better for their use.
xnerdr··on Facebook eats Googles lunch by 2012
Also, I will add, nearly every article you read on Hacker news is a blog post on the submittors own blog. Is their something wrong with doing this?

If you found it so terrible, why did you continue reading for a whole 5 minutes and not stop after 1, clearly it must have had some value.

Google makes the vast majority of its current revenue from search and email, not from Android. $1.3 billion is projected and is about 3% of $32 billion a year revenue, the vast majority of which comes from search. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=GOOG

xnerdr··on Facebook eats Googles lunch by 2012
How much of Google's revenue do you expect to be generated from Android OS? Further, Facebook apps are on apple and android products, giving them a larger market share than android alone could ever have. The OS alone will not be generating revenue.
