xeroaura··on Using eSIMs with devices that only have a physical SIM slot via a 9eSIM SIM car
Have you checked out Eskimo esim?

They have coupons every so often on holidays for their worldwide esims. I believe they have one going for Chinese New Years that makes 30GB for $80. The data also has a 2 year expiration that rolls over on any global data purchase.

Downside is their esims (mostly? all?) terminate in Singapore, so higher latency outside of the Asia region.

xeroaura··on Reddit's API Changes
Reddit told Apollo’s dev that they plan yo announce the pricing on upcoming Monday, the 29th. Guess we’ll get more details then.
xeroaura··on iOS 15
Anyone that's been on the beta find any nice to have Safari extensions?

And do these extensions also apply to (non-safari) apps using the webkit UI to render a page? Like content blocker applies to these as well as safari.

xeroaura··on A new jailbreak for a new era
Looks to be iOS jailbreak for any device on a version of iOS 13.

Some quick searching indicates previous most popular tool unc0ver only went up to iOS 13.5 (vs newest 13.7 that this tool jailbreaks).

Edit: Actually looks like another tool called checkra1n already covers those iOS versions, but this one covers more devices.

xeroaura··on Ask HN: Is there a platform for sharing ideas that people want to “give away”?
Btw, the TOS/privacy policy are both just links to support(?) email.
xeroaura··on Checkm8 – Bootrom exploit for many iOS devices
A large part of the jailbreak user community is pretty young agewise. Lots of drama/immaturity/people quitting out of the scene due to toxicity. Some of the people crafting these released exploits into a functioning jailbreak are in college or below!

There's a pretty big piracy problem as well (not just cracked iOS apps, but also cracked paid tweaks released by devs for jailbreak devices) probably due to the younger ages without access to $.

xeroaura··on WARP is here
It seems to not be hiding IP, but it does inadvertently(?) do so for some site's detection methods I think. When I did an IP lookup, some sites reported correct while others reported one I didn't recognize (assumed its the one from WARP).
xeroaura··on WARP is here
This might be interesting to you for running on desktop (its for Mac, but probably can do something similar for Windows?): https://twitter.com/saurik/status/1176893448445558784
xeroaura··on iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
They even dropped the iPhone 11 "midrange" model down $50 compared to the XR release price from last year.
xeroaura··on iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
Rumors (before today) said Intel for this generation (since they were manufacturing before Intel dropped their modems).

https://9to5mac.com/2019/04/25/2019-iphones-intel/

Glad I waited for the unlocked X with Qualcomm instead of getting the Tmobile Intel version that year.

xeroaura··on YouTube shuts down music companies’ use of manual copyright claims
FANG at least makes more sense since the abbreviation is a lot faster than typing out the multiple company names.

Ambivalent about stock tickers. Sometimes have to look them up, haha.

xeroaura··on The We Company S-1
Looks to be business Amex Plat only for 1 year of free WeWork.
xeroaura··on How dried fish is made in Iceland
Maybe its cold enough out for minimal bugs? The pics seem to have snow in the background.

The article mentions they dip the fish in brine before hanging up as well. Google indicates other methods of drying fish include sprinkling salt on to keep bugs away.

xeroaura··on Apple Pro Display XDR
$200 for the Vesa mount. Oof.
xeroaura··on Known Issue: Charged full price of Fi device after financing
That sounds like 1.5GB of data/month? You can probably beat that with a MVNO, but not any of the main US carriers. Extreme example being like mint mobile which does bulk purchases (3,6,12months) and goes down as cheap as $15/month for 3GB of LTE.

If you have Comcast home internet, you might be able to use Xfinity Mobile (only BYOP for iPhone atm but they do have a few $100 backs for some phones on their site). It costs $0 for calling/text and $12/gig.

xeroaura··on AirPods with Wireless Charging Case
Do you mean one of those cases that wrap on the outside of the original? If so, how much bulkier are those? Thinking of getting one since I have a mostly unused Qi charger on my workdesk.
xeroaura··on Goodbye, EdgeHTML
Would clearing cookies and cache work?

On Chrome, theres an option to list cookies for a site by clicking on that padlock to left of site url, so quicker way of clearing cookies for your Jenkins site. Maybe FF has similar setup.

Then hard refresh browser should clear cache I think (ctr/cmd + shift + r on any system or ctr + f5 on windows).

xeroaura··on Show HN: Applying for jobs? Manage all your interviews in one place
Amazon doesn't give any due to HR policies. Google gave me some general feedback, like what I was lacking in during on-site coding interview that got me knocked out.
xeroaura··on U.S. Is World’s Most Competitive Economy for First Time in a Decade
I think they mean the one that is #2 right now about China's hidden debt.
xeroaura··on iOS 12, reviewed
Download the IPSW from here: https://ipsw.me/

Manually install through restore. Example: http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/23/how-to-use-ipsw-files/ (Click restore instead of update button for a full wipe)

xeroaura··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2018)
Hi, the careers page only lists an engineering posting for a full-stack?
xeroaura··on OpenBSD disables Intel's hyperthreading due to security concerns
Taking a guess, but since they are running similar streams, they have similar loads at a specific time. Competition between main thread and hyperthread could hurt performance instead?
xeroaura··on America is losing the battle against robocalls
Just a heads up, those are likely these: http://www.chinaconsulatesf.org/eng/zytz/t1554022.htm

I've been getting them as well in California. My workplace even sent out an email regarding these since they've been happening more frequently.

xeroaura··on Tokyo Is Preparing for Floods ‘Beyond Anything We’ve Seen’
I do believe there's a movie coming out with a similar premise of weather modification to control natural disasters gone wrong called Geostorm.
xeroaura··on Using Ordered Markov Chains and User Information to Speed Up Password Cracking
For sites/apps that can't fetch the password themselves, people usually copy paste the password. This could allow other sites/apps that have access to the clipboard to see the password.
xeroaura··on Amazon Go
It seems like everything is already prepackaged in the store according to what they have for sale. I know my local grocery store has certain things prepackaged into bundles instead of allowing people to bag them.
xeroaura··on Astronauts enter China's space station [video]
Is taiko short for tai kong (太空) = space in Mandarin in this case?
xeroaura··on Unable to open links in Safari, Mail or Messages on iOS 9.3
Apple leaves the signing window for older versions for usually a week after the newest version drops. Go to a site like https://ipsw.me/ and find your device. If the iOS version in the drop down menu has a green background, you can still restore to that version. You download the ipsw file and hold shift + click restore/upgrade on iTunes to manually target the ipsw you want to downgrade to.
xeroaura··on Razer’s first ultrabook wants to be your only gaming PC
Curious on battery life since the battery (45 Wh) is smaller than other comparable laptops. Wish there was a 16GB RAM option.

Price is $999 for lowest configuration (QHD + 128GB) going up $200 for each upgrade (256GB, then screen, then 512GB), so it seems reasonable for the cheaper models I think. No tax in some states unlike most other laptop companies/Microsoft Store.

Here's a quick list of specs from Razer's sites:

- 12.5-inch IGZO QuadHD (2,560 x 1,440 / 70% Adobe RBG) or UHD (3840 x 2160 / 100% Adobe RBG) resolution touchscreen

- Intel HD Graphics 520

- Intel Core i7-6500U

- 8GB of RAM

- 128GB/256GB PCIe M.2 (QuadHD display model)

- 256GB/512GB PCIe M.2 (Ultra HD display model)

- Chroma-lit keyboard (Individual RGB per key according to theverge article)

- 0.52-inches thick

- 2.75 pounds

- Two USB 3.0 ports

- USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port

- One combo headphone/microphone port (like the single port ones in Macbooks)

xeroaura··on Which is better, Adblock or Adblock Plus?
I think you could set up a proxy server and use Apple's iPhone Configuration Utility to load a proxy for cellular data use. If you're jailbroken, you could also put a host file directly on the device, but it does slow it down a bit.
