I don’t get the scenario he tested where he has access to both sides and can freely install cyphers on the server and what not. If you have just installed vpn endpoint and send whatever packets you feel like.
I have a bit of a problem donating directly to the army.
I understand the need to defend but it does end with deaths and bloodshed.
I ‘avoid’ the problem by donating to medical supplies as well as simple food stuff for people in Ukraine. We also plan to shelter a Ukrainian family in our house once they get here (we live in Poland)
I think the issue is (as always) not technical but a human problem. If the swift payments were blocked, what incentive would the creditors have in paying back the debt?
I have one almost legitimate use for 12ft.io - sharing links for a paid subscription news site where I actually pay the annual fee and the site has it’s own way of letting users share articles with friends and family.
But the built in process is onerous, one has to sign up and they nag you to subscribe which is a long journey to read one article.
So I hope 12ft guy can find a niche like that to sustain a legitimate business.
If we enable everyone to have at least $30 per day, would this not result in asset inflation and purchasing power of said $30 lower - these these people would still end relatively poor ?
China has stopped construction of building over 100m and for a good reason. Tall building are incredibly inefficient - you literally have to haul everything high up - water, furniture, more recently cars.
Ta bigger height to width ratio, the more bottlenecked the transit systems (elevators) become.
Likewise for heating, a very tall skinny building has a much larger surface area to a shorter and wider one that houses as many units, plus it has more exposure to high winds and colder temps high above.
I think skyscrapers look cool, but from a practical point of view they're pointless, especially in places like Dubai, where land (plot size) is not yet an issue.
Every time I see such a pre emptive money grab (1p doesn’t need all this money upfront- they could fund new features and growth from paying customers) I know that prospective users will have to pay back a multiple of the 600M back to the investors.
Why would I choose 1pass, knowing that they’ll want even more money in the future, in perpetuity, when free alternatives exist?
I also feel like it makes them a super juicy central attack target for both commercial and state sponsored hackers.
I didn’t know about the dig behaviours but when I read about it I immediately thought that is a great way to narrow down the problem - compare dig results with something else that does respect local conf.
This is waste to keep throwing resources at something because maybe someday something good will come out of it.
There’s many more areas like sequencing genomes and fighting cancer that these programmers could be spending their time on.
This is very true and it paints a dim view on the XXI century- we are going to be ruled by thugs and gangsters because we “vote” them in, until it’s too late.
Yeah, Im Pro vax and obviously want this pandemic over soon, but I don’t see how having the same colleagues wear masks in another cubicle but don’t wear masks in the common canteen. Should be the other way, really.
I can address the point about oil.
We seem to have reached peak oil already so the expectation is for the price of oil to go down.
Prices going up suggest market manipulation by squeezing supply by opec etc.
When we had little kids and working in noisy open office spaces was normal I figured it’s best not to fight it and went for work that is more suited to being disrupted often.
I still spend a small portion of my day coding but if the expectation is not huge, it’s not hard to find 30 minutes of focus time.
I’d really struggle if I had to produce a days worth of code everyday as I simply don’t have enough uninterrupted hours every day.
I call bs on this argument. Protocol on the blockchain still has to abide by the rule of law. And the idea that certain things are not allowed on the blockchain is false - someone will create a new fork, chain or there will be a more elaborate workaround.
It’s just a very complicated way to deliver anything.
Perhaps the quality of arguments is an indicator here.
At this point in time I am tired of explaining the basics to new, naive newcomers who somehow think that distributed chains of hashes are some kind of new, breakthrough science.
I am tired in the same way as explaining to people that statistically they should vaccinate - the scientific base is already established but it looks like reasonable arguments no longer work.
There’s opportunity cost and I feel like a lot of web3 efforts to reinvent the wheel could be better spent on research into fighting cancer or genetic diseases.
