wdn··on Diablo Immortal brought $100M to developers in less than two months
A lot. They wouldn’t spend $70 for 1 item. They will buy a few packs here and there and that’s $100 spent and they didn’t even know.

My kids did that. I gave them a debit card with some allowance and next thing I know, $50 was spent on a micro transaction. $5, $7 and then a few more clicks, $50.

Google policy is they only refund the last transaction 1 time for an app.

wdn··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
If you are a TWTR shareholder, then you should vote for this deal.

Just open a chart and see what a disaster TWTR stock is since transitioned into the Biden administration. The market (institution shareholders) is not stupid. The lower price is how the free market punish TWTR for their actions. They have lost a lot of their users due to many of their limited free speech and work with government actions.

wdn··on Canada to ban foreigners from buying homes
It is supply and demand. If the buyers don't think it worth the price, they wouldn't place the bids.

If you want open bid/ask, there is always the stock/futures/options markets.

wdn··on NYU is top-ranked in loans that alumni and parents struggle to repay
This would be a great idea. However, in those wokism world, it would not work.

School are dropping standardize test in the name of fairness (of the skin color).

wdn··on Apple and Disney among companies backing groups against US climate bill
Exactly this.

We are seeing Bill Gates telling us HOW to save the planet for being the biggest person polluter but he CAN buy carbon credit to offset his carbon footprint. Hypocrite!

wdn··on New York Senate passes Right to Repair bill
You do understand the reason why US has such high health care cost is because the only player getting screw is the payer, also known as the patient.
wdn··on Amazon Sidewalk
When was the last time regulation protects anything?

The Security Act of 1934 created the SEC and look at the past 20 or so years and see how many scandals has happened under their watch. All big players. Look at Madoff. Whisper blower after whisper blower to the SEC and what did SEC do? They looked the other way.

wdn··on Union's evidence in Amazon vote 'could be grounds for overturning election'
One of my neighbor works fir Amazon warehouse here in NJ, he is quite happy, never heard him complain about it.

Yeap, I agreed with you. The media is untrustworthy and is a propaganda machine. Good thing is they are digging their own grave now.

wdn··on Apple sued for terminating account with $25k worth of apps and videos
They are a monopoly. I hope the Judge on Epic class call this Apple’s Motion to Dismiss.

Hopefully there will be platform independent store where you can buy once and available on all devices.

wdn··on Google and Apple attacked on app store 'monopoly'
Apple and Google’s action is no more than a cartel than Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile in the late 90s and early 2000s. They just don’t compete against each other.
wdn··on Regulators urge safety recall of Peloton treadmill after child dies
Probably not popular opinion:

Where were the parents in the video?

This is an adult gym equipment and it is not a toy. Why would regulator recall this?

For example, I am helping my son with weight training. I spot him. I never allow him to do it himself as he simply unable to control his strength yet. If he get hurt doing bench press himself for using too much weight without a spotter, is this the manufacturer’s problem or is it my problem? Of course it is my own negligence problem.

wdn··on Bitcoin miners are buying power plants
We don't need a carbon tax.

What we need a get rid of all the print and spend politicians. The reason for the raise of bitcoin is a direct response to the trillions and trillions of dollars just printed out of thin air.

It is insane how much grocery cost nowadays. I was at the supermarket last week and was looking at lobster, I thought it was listed for $6.99/lb for those 1 to 1.25 lb size, but when I got closed, it was $16.99/lb. It is crazy. Blue Crab at $5/each.

wdn··on Unusual Stock Trading by Whales in US Congress
Rules are for thy not for me.

Congress insider trading is not new. Peter Schweitzer’s book “Throw all of them out” details them. The book was released in 2011.

How is this an acceptable. Is politicians above the law?

wdn··on Windows 10 taskbar is now pushing Microsoft Edge web apps
No there won’t. The only reason why there was an anti-trust case against MSFT back in the day was because MSFT was too busy making and neglected to do political “contributions”.

Silicon Valley took noticed and now they are the top political “contributors”.

wdn··on Ask HN: Why is Reddit so awful?
Use Firefox.
wdn··on FDA approves new ADHD drug for children
This is a bad idea. Good idea for parents who don’t want to spend time with their kids.

When my son was 2, maybe 3, one of the best neurologist in my state diagnosed my son with mild ADHD. He was not talking either.

If med was available, I sure would sign up and give it to him. I was simply “too busy” with work. Instead of playing with him after work, I got busy with other “projects”.

I only got awakening up after my wife lectured me. From the moment on, I spent a lot more time with my children. As it turned out, he does not has ADHD and turned out really bright and have a lot of friends at school.

wdn··on Uber ordered to pay $1.1M to blind woman refused rides
This is not the only issue. It is an extension to a bigger issue, cancelling rides.

There are many time I have Uber driver cancelling my ride from the airport because my destination is not the big metro center, rather, just outside of it. The driver was quick to accept the request, then called and then cancel the ride. Of course, the driver would said the customer "request the cancellation".

This wasted so much of people's time.

Please don't tell with all those smart people Uber have in their payroll couldn't figure out this. Or they simply ignore it.

wdn··on 2020 World Press Freedom Index: A decisive decade for the future of journalism
There was a speech given by Sharyl Attkisson explaining the issue with today’s “journalism”.

In short, the slanted media is what is being taught in school and writing slanted articles that please the corporate owner will get rewarded. Truth has no place under the current environment. However, there is hope.

wdn··on Hospitals lift curtain on prices, reveals giant swings for hips, knees and more
Only in US that we don’t know the price of the health service we are redeeming.

When I go get my car fix and I would go around to get an estimate for multiple body shop even if it is under insurance. But when it come to health care, you ask them for a cash price, they said they don’t know.

wdn··on Brave buys a search engine, promises no tracking, no profiling
We already have enough regulations and we still have so much problems. For one thing, it is selective enforcement. Secondly, the penalty is peanut. If penalty is a percentage of total revenue, it will change the behavior of the executive of the tech giant. Add some jail time for repeating offenders is a good idea too.

Lastly, the reason why regulations don’t work is regulations is written by lobbyists here in the US. Guess who these lobbyists represented?

wdn··on GameStop Is Happening Again
Option sellers don’t need to buy shares, they can just buy back the options they sold.
wdn··on GameStop Is Happening Again
It will be day trading firm. There are much better stock or futures to day trade as GME properly still requires 100% margin.
wdn··on GameStop Is Happening Again
Retail cannot move price. We are talking about 100 of million shares traded.

Only in this age that a stock going up is bad.

wdn··on Letters from House members to cable providers [pdf]
You should see how upset people were when you told them you think Trump is a great president. At my last job, the IT admin was so upset that he told me that he will not do any of my incidents.

No discussion what so ever.

wdn··on DuckDuckGo search engine – The privacy browser is growing rapidly
I tried DDG and Bing and only go back to Google.

If you search anything that has a political interest, it is better to use DDG but everything else Google does it better.

wdn··on Global debt soars to 356% of GDP
The problem is cause by the government. How do you think stock market so much past year? The US government and other governments printed so much money that no where to go (remember, we are still locked down). With internet at or near zero, do you think people put their money in the bank?
wdn··on Counterfeiting Stock – Explaining illegal naked shorting and stock manipulation
You are mixing long term investing vs short term trading.

Short term trading has nothing to do with fundamental.

The market can be irrational.

wdn··on Hedge fund Melvin sustains 53% loss after Reddit onslaught
Of course there are other big players that drive it.

Retail investors are in no way able to move price.

wdn··on Capitol Attack Was Months in the Making on Facebook
If you see how much wealth the politicians, especially the one holding important position, you see why they want the job for a merely $200,000 a year.

Clinton and Obama got very wealth after their presidency. Pelosi wealth goes up many fold for becoming speaker of the house. Not only their wealth go up, everyone around them got a lot wealthier too.

wdn··on Billionaires add $1tn to net worth during pandemic as their workers struggle
The Guardian is trash.

They look at stock value, which its raise is largely from the government printing too much money.

Look at the price the price of grocery. It is sick how fast price has been increasing.
