wavephorm··on Apple ignores bug report
You're right, it's not directly about money. But it is to reinforce their closed platform and ecosystem.

If a great application can be used instantly off the internet, with no download, no install, no hassles, no App Store, (the way software should be) then the consumer has no particular reason to buy an Apple device over one of their competitors.

By preventing developers from building quality web applications, Apple helps maintain the need for developers to build for their native platform, which means consumers need to buy Apple devices to use those applications.

What are you talking about? How exactly is it malicious to build a game or build a music web app?

On desktops with Flash or the HTML5 Audio/Video API you can already do these things. I don't see anyone complaining that things like Youtube and Grooveshark are malicious, so why should iOS be sabotaged? Non-Apple devices like Android, and Playbook work just fine. You can build music, and video, and game web applications on those devices without these limitations, and it is not a problem. Apple simply wants a hobbled platform, to force all content through the iTunes store instead of over the internet.

wavephorm··on Apple ignores bug report
It absolutely is intentional. And with that same intention Apple forbids other companies from writing web browsers that fix these and other issues with mobile Safari. Auto-playing audio and video in the browser is also forbidden, which prevents any sort of online music, or video app from being created, among other things.

So games, music, and video apps in mobile Safari are all hopelessly hobbled, and if you build a browser that fixes these issues you'll be banned.

Happy developing!

Between introducing multi-touch errors, and hobbling the HTML5 Audio API, there is no way to build an engaging game for mobile Safari. Apple has sabotaged their web platform with expert precision.
wavephorm··on MVC is dead, it's time to MOVE on
MVC is just a design pattern, a way to organize code, it's not a religion.
wavephorm··on MVC is dead, it's time to MOVE on
I think the problem with most MVC frameworks is not the framework themselves, but that that the MVC design pattern should only be considered while refactoring existing working code. Starting right off the bat with a giant MVC boilerplate isn't necessary and may even be counter-productive.

I write my code initially as one monolithic controller, and then refactor my code into an MVC pattern. It doesn't take that long to move functions from one object an other, and now you're working with an already-functioning piece of code rather than guessing how things might work later on.

wavephorm··on Mozilla Gains Global Support For a Firefox Mobile OS
I really hope Mozilla mandates that any such phones will come unlocked, so users can always wipe their phone with a stock B2G.

I imagine both these teams were well aware that using a dictionary word like that for a product name would inevitably lead to name conflicts.
wavephorm··on Heroku is down again
How do satellites deal with solar storms currently? Surely they could put a ton of iron around the servers to protect them.
wavephorm··on SSDs cost half of what they did in 2011
I'm moving stuff to network drives all the time because the SDD drive capacity of my laptop is too small. Even after 3 years there still isn't anything on the market that is an acceptably priced replacement. Like I said, where is my $300 1TB SDD that should have been on the market by now?

3 years is a really long time for an entire industry to be totally stagnant. It's somewhat similar to how Intel has been sitting on their asses for the past few years ignoring the entire mobile computing revolution.

wavephorm··on SSDs cost half of what they did in 2011
I seriously need a 1TB SSD (which either don't exist or are still way too expensive) for my laptop because I am constantly moving files off my local system and onto my file server which could also seriously use some 4TB drives, which also don't exist. I am running out of space on each of my systems faster than I ever remember.
wavephorm··on SSDs cost half of what they did in 2011
So where's my 1TB solid state disk to replace the 256GB one I've been using in my laptop for 3 years now? It seems as though all innovation in storage stopped in 2009, and we've been coasting ever since. And don't even mention there's still no 4TB hard disks. My blu-ray rip collection isn't getting any smaller and our storage systems aren't getting better anywhere near fast enough.
wavephorm··on Heroku is down again
Hopefully one day it will be feasible to host our computing architecture in space and avoid all these terrestrial obstructions.

Probably not a good idea to run NodeJS as root.
wavephorm··on Google Chrome now works on iOS

still use Apple's WebKit-based engine required by the App Store developer guidelines
This is pretty retarded, and should really be looked at by the DoJ. To hobble all web browsers like this is something that even Microsoft, at the height of their dominance, didn't even attempt.
wavephorm··on Dropbox disconnects Boxopus for unwanted features
This kind of reinforces my belief that Dropbox is merely a segway toward a more private, decentralized (self-hosted), cloud-based filesystem.

How is Dropbox ever going to stay relevant in the future if they go around telling people what they can and can't store in their directories?

wavephorm··on Cloud9 IDE lets you code together in the Cloud. And offline. And in Ruby, PHP…
Perhaps even more importantly, Cloud9 is based on the ACE code editor (http://ace.ajax.org/) which, by itself, is a really phenomenal piece of work. When you look under the hood it's way more complex than you might imagine.
wavephorm··on Microsoft agrees to $1.2bn purchase of Yammer
A company I used to work for used it. I found the client to be really horrendous. It was written in some sort of god-awful Adobe Air thing that used 100% CPU constantly while it ran. Just awful, I can't comprehend why anyone would use a terrible bloated architecture like Air to create what should be a simple lightweight chat system. And the chat program itself had no advantages over any other chat system.

Maybe I just didn't "get it".

wavephorm··on Where has all the money in the world gone?
When you learn how money really works, you begin to understand just how diabolical our entire socio-economic system is. Inflation, recessions, boom-bust, the stock market, fractional reserve banking, interest rates... it's all rigged, a giant shell game, and it boils down to an invisible whip that the rich use to keep people working for things they don't really need and to pay taxes for the sole purpose of perpetuating a perverted economic system.
wavephorm··on Google to launch Amazon, Microsoft cloud competitor at Google I/O 2012
Shouldn't Google have done this before everyone started migrating off of GAE due to the price hikes, and before AWS pretty much cornered the cloud platform market, and before Dropbox cornered the cloud data storage/sync market, and before Heroku cornered the auto-scaling web services market?
wavephorm··on Which program should I learn RoR or PHP?
I've never seen a job opening for an Azure developer. Sure there might be ASP work, but you almost certainly won't be working on cloud or mobile apps. It's nearly impossible to build a large-scale cloud architecture using Microsoft technology, and Microsoft Windows phone represents such a small portion of the market that it is inconsequential to ignore it completely. These are very strong reasons to avoid Microsoft technologies when choosing something to learn regardless of how employable ASP developers are at the moment.

Excuse me, but "reality" is the world around you. My "opinion" is based on my own experiences, and my own observations of the people I know -- because that's what reality is. Reality is not simply what "people say" on internet tech websites and android discussion forums.

wavephorm··on Which program should I learn RoR or PHP?
This is bad advice. In this day in age it is a serious mistake to start learning back-end development on the Microsoft stack. Microsoft technologies are non-existent in every aspect of cloud computing... which is the future of back-end development, and the basis of the future of mobile/web computing. I know a few Windows die hards that are practically unemployable these days because they were either afraid, or technically incapable, of using Linux and command line tools, and now their MCSE point-and-click skills are useless in the new mobile/cloud computing age.

Python on Linux would be a much better option.

wavephorm··on Microsoft introduces Windows Phone 8

Do you really imagine that the hundreds of millions of Android users chose "anything but Apple"?
Yes I believe this is true.

There are very few redeeming qualities that an Android tablet has over an iPad. Likewise the people I know with Android phones either couldn't afford an iPhone, don't want one due to philosophical issues, or just wanted a simple feature-less cell phone and an Android phone was the same price.

People do not desire Android devices... they tolerate them. That's why Google should be afraid of these new Microsoft tablets and phones -- people already desire them in a way I have never heard anyone talk about any android device ever created in the past 3 years.

wavephorm··on Microsoft introduces Windows Phone 8
I imagine a lot of RIM and Google executives are getting a twitch in their eye right about now. If these new devices live up to their hype I can easily see them supplant Android as the "anything but Apple" option.

So $424 extra for the bigger drive, and $176 for the extra ram... that sounds almost reasonable.
wavephorm··on Zynga shares plummet as Facebook game craze wanes
Just be prepared for the scenario where both Zynga and Instagram were substantially overvalued.

Just because Mark Zuckerburg acquired a company for a Billion dollars that had NO revenue, NO customers, and NO business, doesn't mean the rest of the investment world is smoking the Social Network crack pipe.
