w8vY7ER··on How SpaceX streamlined the Raptor engine
Oh yeah, Tory Bruno made that gaffe of a comment publicly, and completely unprompted, before he abruptly quit. I had forgotten, but you’re right of course.
w8vY7ER··on Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5
It’s ok to be amused, absent exaggeration. Spit takes happen in sitcoms.
w8vY7ER··on Muxcard, a DIY credit card size computer
yer dang right
w8vY7ER··on SpaceX: Test Like You Fly [video]
First episode in a new docu-series from SpaceX on Starship V3 development and testing of the new pad, Raptor engines, booster, and ship. Lots of behind-the-scenes footage from inside Starbase showing how they approach hardware testing.
w8vY7ER··on Show HN: I spent 3 years reverse-engineering a 40 yo stock market sim from 1986
I agree with this completely.
w8vY7ER··on Show HN: I spent 3 years reverse-engineering a 40 yo stock market sim from 1986
This is my favorite thing I’ve read on Hacker News, ever. Congratulations Ben and Michael, I’m so glad you both had the tenacity to make this happen. Well done.
w8vY7ER··on Microsoft removes documentation for switching to a local account in Windows 11
sounds awesome, honestly. maybe consider retiring “niggle” from the lexicon
w8vY7ER··on Intuitive Machines successfully lands on the Moon
Before I read this comment I would have said there was no way to make the topic of a moon landing boring.
w8vY7ER··on Happy 14th Birthday, KrebsOnSecurity
Brian’s diligent effort in this field has been inspiring to me, glad to see this piece marking the milestone. I have found this blog to be one of the few consistent paragons of the infosec world that seems unconcerned with the salaciousness of threats, which predominate others’ coverage. Are there other, similar havens in the community that focus on as much technical detail?
w8vY7ER··on Whistleblower drops 100 GB of Tesla secrets to German news site
my six year old model 3 with 60,000 miles on it doesn’t do anything I don’t tell it to- this sounds like user error. I wouldn’t report user error either.
w8vY7ER··on HTTP load generator, ApacheBench (ab) replacement
Thanks for the submission, will give this a try as I'm in the midst of some load testing right now. Could you tell me how (if significantly) this differs from something like vegeta[1]?

w8vY7ER··on Chick-fil-A’s first UK location to close after pressure from LGBTQ rights group
Fascinating to see such clear ramifications of allowing religious beliefs to creep into the outcome of successful product expansion. I wonder if they will make any attempt to overcome this image in the future, or instead focus inwardly and try to continue engaging the existing customer base more frequently to pursue growth.
w8vY7ER··on Envoy Proxy Performance on Kubernetes
Could it be at all related to the circuit-breaking behavior that nginx describes[1] in some of their reference architecture? Unclear to me which (if any) of these properties might be in play for this test.

w8vY7ER··on Tesla Software Version 10.0
That is the fear I had in the back of my mind standing in line to reserve a car, sight unseen. Really sorry you have had such a bad time, hope it will improve for you.
w8vY7ER··on Tesla’s Neural Processor In The FSD Chip
Thanks for what I thought was a really nice explanation for the uninitiated! Certainly helped me conceptualize it better.
w8vY7ER··on Tesla Software Version 10.0
Don't know, my experience has directly contradicted this popular narrative. I think, perhaps, these experiences are less frequent than public outlets suggest.
w8vY7ER··on Tesla Software Version 10.0
I'm in the same boat and also raced motorcycles around closed circuit racetracks in sanctioned events so I understand the draw. I have 25k miles on my '18 Model 3 now and can't imagine going back to even the best gas car I ever drove. It's just apples and oranges. Both have a special place in my heart but I'll take the EV nine times out of ten these days! Anybody on the fence should just give it a whirl and see for yourself!
w8vY7ER··on Why should you trust ProtonMail?
I've been using this with my own domain for several years now and have no complaints so far. Effective and reliable from my perspective. Satisfied customer looking forward to their next security-forward features and deeply grateful to have the correspondence most sensitive to me off gmail and similar!
w8vY7ER··on The one who kept VLC free
merci pour tout jbk!!!
w8vY7ER··on Sleeping Tesla driver ploughed into 11 traffic cones on a motorway
I could not agree more with this comment. As a fellow owner it's astonishing how much is incorrectly attributed to the brand instead of the operators of the vehicles in this kind of writing.
w8vY7ER··on House passes $15 minimum wage bill
Time for a new Senate then?
w8vY7ER··on Electric cars grab almost half of sales in Norway
Don't forget the environment subsidizing the entire fossil fuel industry- that is a bill whose payments are now behind and with a lot of interest that will be passed on to everything on the planet instead of just those responsible for the negative consequences.
w8vY7ER··on Sikh drivers are transforming U.S. trucking
All your comments throughout this thread have been extremely interesting to read. Thanks for taking the time to share with us!
w8vY7ER··on Supreme Court rules federal courts cannot invalidate partisan gerrymandering [pdf]
This is just so disappointing. We cannot allow this to be the last word on the topic, they must be made to address this!
w8vY7ER··on Hackers are stealing years of call records from hacked cell networks
Any opinions on whether this practice continues to serve the general good of the society? The comment above about austerity has a ring of truthiness to it that is very difficult to ignore.
w8vY7ER··on Verizon and a BGP Optimizer Knocked Large Parts of the Internet Offline
As they should, this is day-one BGP configuration stuff. Nothing advanced, nothing especially technical or time consuming. Speaks to a gross degree of professional negligence on the part of AS701. Really disappointing to see this degree of ignorance.
w8vY7ER··on BMW is accelerating electrification plans
Have you had the chance to drive one yet, just out of curiosity? It's worth the effort if there is a store nearby you and you have any interest in manifestation of the product itself!
w8vY7ER··on BMW is accelerating electrification plans
I'm not personally familiar with that one, but as an owner this is the ultimate source of authority for me when planning trips. Hopefully more illustrative: https://www.tesla.com/supercharger
w8vY7ER··on BMW is accelerating electrification plans
It would for sure be a boon for them to copy Tesla's homework in this fashion but let's not forget that the culture that fostered such breakthrough would likely suffocate and die in that post-acquisition environment. For a group whose stated mission is to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy, I see this outcome to be unlikely. However much it might help those entrenched entities save face and present a "Hello, fellow EV makers!" facade.
w8vY7ER··on Maine Governor Signs Strictest Internet Protections in the U.S.
Agreed, I think this would be in the general best interest for all customers.
