vhgyu75e6u··on Infosys asked HR not to hire 'Indian-origin candidates', 'women with children'
Maybe you should dust off your reading compression skills, his paragraph is pretty self explanatory. He is saying that those who speak English usually come from wealthy families and those whealty families have been raised to treat people from lower caste poorly.
vhgyu75e6u··on Nuclear strike odds moved from “single” to “double digits” in past week
So your answer is let every nation that has a nuclear weapon do as it pleases? Can't wait for NK to demand SK or Israel demand Palestine or Iran demand for everyone to be Muslin.
vhgyu75e6u··on Kazakhstan’s president: We’re moving full speed ahead toward reform
Translation: we are sticking to whoever allows us to remain in power and keep our status as is.
vhgyu75e6u··on Okta and Auth0 Blocking Cuba, Iran, N Korea, Syria, Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk
Yes lets just swallow the Cuban propaganda that their medicine is somehow magical and more advanced that every other, and ignore the fact that their government have been surviving as a parasite from other countries, helping the dictators stay in power
vhgyu75e6u··on Debian's Chromium changes default search engine to DDG
Sadly I have found the DDG lacking, most times I have to go back to Google to find information that just doesn't show up on DDG. As an example, I don't have Twitter but I follow certain sport journalist with a huge following, all thanks to his Twitter. When I search for his name + twitter, DDG shows me articles about the journalist and even a Facebook page link, but not his twitter even if it is in the query and his handle is literally his name!
vhgyu75e6u··on Tell HN: Amazon allows unauthorized parties to use credit cards
Yes, that is in fact a security gap that can be (and is) exploited. In Europe at least, they bring the payment point to you and you place the card yourself (or ask you to go to the register)
vhgyu75e6u··on Ethereum Goerli testnet merge goes live before move to proof-of-stake
Then you have a vested interest in playing down the effect that this waste of energy bubble had/is.

> They are also not top of the line gpus... which gamers want to buy. older rx470 polaris class gpus are more than enough for large mining farms.

Way off the mark there, gamers not in the 1% don't buy top of the line GPU (as reflected in the Steam survey), they buy the budget to mid range price. When miners started buying GPU left and right in pallets, NVIDEA and AMD saw it and shift the manufacturing to the top of the line GPU where they have the highest margins even if the waffer would yield a lot less, because miners would buy them ASAP anyway. This reduced the amount of lower tier GPUs in the market.

Funny you mention the RX470, a GPU famously never in stock because of this dumb piramid scheme.

vhgyu75e6u··on Xbox has accused Sony of paying Game Pass 'block fees' to developers
Not almost, all. There is not a single exclusive
vhgyu75e6u··on Ethereum Goerli testnet merge goes live before move to proof-of-stake
Still the same, the more GPUs are added to the network the harder it is to mine, the harder is to mine the more GPUs are added until it is no longer profitable, all this while drawing more power.
vhgyu75e6u··on Ethereum Goerli testnet merge goes live before move to proof-of-stake
2) The latest earning from NVIDIA and AMD showed that about 30% of their GPU were to crypto miners, so no, the shortage was not an exaggeration and certainly not from many years ago.
vhgyu75e6u··on Xbox has accused Sony of paying Game Pass 'block fees' to developers
Plus a full price tag
vhgyu75e6u··on Oncall Compensation for Software Engineers
That depends of the country and its regulation. I get pay extra for my week as oncall, plus a bit for each page outside of working hours. As for the oncall responsabilities, we take it as time to catch up on debt or open tickets, no project work is assigned that week.
vhgyu75e6u··on AWS us-east-2 outage
AWS works with multiple availability zones (AZ) per region, some products by default deploy in several ones at the same time, while others leave it up to you.
vhgyu75e6u··on Inflation Has Outpaced Wage Growth. Now It’s Cutting into Spending
Sure, if you enjoy cooking or you don't consider your time as valuable, the math chacks out
vhgyu75e6u··on How Bungie identified a mass sender of fake DMCA notices
I always read that but have never found a service like that, do you have a link?

A lot of services that I don't want then to have my PII are starting to ask for phone verification.

vhgyu75e6u··on Ask HN: Should I move to California or Germany as a SWE with 2 small kids? (pt2)
Now add cost of private insurance, COL, cost of houses. Then calculate how much of those pesky taxes in Germany go towards real infrastructure compared to the US.

I'm a FAANG engineer in Europe and I can tell you I'm not a lower class grunt like you imply everyone in here ;)

vhgyu75e6u··on Ask HN: Should I move to California or Germany as a SWE with 2 small kids? (pt2)
> In Europe you will be low middle class for at least 10 years and then middle class for the rest. Considering US standards.

> There is no mobility in Europe and even if you are promoted taxes will take care of that.

This is nonsense to the highest level considering we are talking about a family of a PM and a SDE.

OP disregard the parent comment because he is clearly out of his depth talking about life in Europe.

Good SDEs can pick good compensations in Europe to be able to afford a house and more.

vhgyu75e6u··on Gasoline Prices Reach $5 a Gallon Nationwide for the First Time
Venezuela producing oil to meet the US demands is never going to be possible. The industry in the country is hardly able to produce 800K barrels a day
vhgyu75e6u··on It costs $110k to fully gear up in Diablo Immortal
I found most of your complains either false or non issue:

1. Ok, maybe a bug.

2. Given that is a mobile game and most people will no have the volume up, it is ok to have subtitles. Not to mention that games that start with subtitles are more accessible and the majority of players actually don't mind them and find them useful.

3. Fair, but given that this is a mobile game, V-sync can be a problem for lower end devices too.

4. False? I cleared the first mission and had no prompt for that and has not requested tracking at all. Android.

5. The hell you talking about? When you start you get a small cut scene and are given full control when they drop you off the ship.

6. The game is mostly online for what I can tell so updates are a given (and you can download areas separately)

vhgyu75e6u··on It costs $110k to fully gear up in Diablo Immortal
Because the monetization mechanics in this games rely on predatory practices employed by casinos which we already regulate?
vhgyu75e6u··on Amazon investors nuke ethics overhaul and say yes to $212M CEO pay
How much money has Tom Brady or Jassy made for the patriots/Amazon due to their leadership? If they brought 500M then 25M seems fair.
vhgyu75e6u··on Invade Haiti, Wall Street Urged. The U.S. Obliged
There is also a small cluster of Venezuelans that will vote GOP because they have, historically, a harder stance on Cuba and the Dictatorship in Venezuela.

Funny how left leaning voters call out imperialism but forget that Cuba, Russia and China have been doing that in Venezuela the last 30 years

vhgyu75e6u··on Richard Stallman – The state of the Free Software movement
He seems so out of touch with reality, advocating for everything being free open source, specially games would have stopped many of the now cultural references that exists. Making games is hard, making good games is harder and needs a team both motivated and financially compensated.
vhgyu75e6u··on Amazon workers at 100 more facilities want to unionize: Amazon Labor Union
Unions can also block career paths because of seniority preference, a newer guy won't be considered for promotions even if he is more than capable and has showed dedication if the older one are given preference just by longevity. I'm not against unions in general for blue collar jobs but I do believe that they shouldn't have more power than the company, it's all about balance. I come from a country where the lefty populist government used unions to destroy all the private sector by giving them all the power.
vhgyu75e6u··on Unreal Engine 5 is now available
Unreal was already the best engine purely on being easy to work with, support from third party programs and community, none of those things can be said about CryEngine.
vhgyu75e6u··on I live in the country with the most expensive Apple products on the planet
Cuba has survived for 50 year by leaching off from other countries, USSR until its fall, then Venezuela with two puppet regimes and when that also failed, Obama threw them Oxygen by opening up.
vhgyu75e6u··on US officials hold Venezuela meetings amid hunt for alternative oil supplies
Wouldn't mind a small scale spec ops to purge the rats in the government and army, I'm sure that 70% or more of the population would support it or be neutral about it.
vhgyu75e6u··on US officials hold Venezuela meetings amid hunt for alternative oil supplies
Following the same rhetoric of the pro Russia propaganda, Venezuela is in the sphere of influence of the US and should make a special military operation /s, but this one would actually be going against a real fascist regime /not s.
vhgyu75e6u··on Russians are trying to flee – data from Google Trends
> everything is extremely cheap including real estate

If you have the salary of SV sure, the real state is cheap but for those working and living in Spain it is not

vhgyu75e6u··on Russians are trying to flee – data from Google Trends
