upstarter··on Google Invests Almost $400M in ChatGPT Rival Anthropic
> People say its to preserve the brand

I don't think it's that, either, given the rate at which they are involved in overt censorship, over the last years.

upstarter··on WEF speaker touts tech that allows your boss to monitor your brain activity
The boss of the WEF, Klaus Schwab, publicly said "In 2030, you will own nothing and you will be happy."

Let that sink in. That's how psychopathic those people are.

upstarter··on Fukushima nuclear leak: Japan to release radioactive water into sea this year
A good reminder that nuclear energy is not so "green energy" after all.

‘Died suddenly’ will be Oxford's 2023 Word of the Year.

upstarter··on Tell HN: Missing service – StackOverflow, but with monetary rewards
> "do this for me" VS "answer my question"

The boundary is probably not always easy to define. And so I would ask myself - would there even really be a need for such a boundary? Why not simply increase the reward, if your question/problem is bigger than most?

upstarter··on Tell HN: Missing service – StackOverflow, but with monetary rewards
Could it be that times have changed, evolved? Or that the SO folks don't know or understand everything?
upstarter··on Tell HN: Missing service – StackOverflow, but with monetary rewards
> There is a market for people like me that have wasted days

Days? I know I must have wasted weeks, in total.

And not to mention how this can pull you down emotionally/mentally, when you just don't find the solution to your problem. Having someone pull you out of a deep hole is worth money.

upstarter··on Tell HN: Missing service – StackOverflow, but with monetary rewards
Where else could you get such quick/easy "consulting" on such a simple question-basis?
upstarter··on Ask HN: What can you realistically manufacture in your garage?
I'm generally hard to scare, but why not talk it over with a couple of engineers? Either they're going to tell you "it's not going to work b/c that's what we've been told in school" and you'll sleep better, or you're going to be very rich and you'll also sleep better.
upstarter··on Ask HN: What can you realistically manufacture in your garage?
Like Monty Python said: Always look on the bright side of life. Assuming you're right, then your first buyer would be the US Army. You would never have to work a single day in your life ever again. :-)
upstarter··on Ask HN: What can you realistically manufacture in your garage?
Well, this is only my humble opinion, but what I see here is a pretty low-tech (and thus rather easy to build) way to produce free energy. Which means 0 pollution (once it is built), which to my knowledge doesn't exist elsewhere in this manner.

I don't see "arbitrary (relativistic?) velocities" as you say. There must be mechanical limits to the speed of the rotation here. What is unlimited is the duration that the engine spins.

When you say "weaponization of this technology could potentially threaten all life on earth", I actually think of nuclear energy, as in the one we have right now.

upstarter··on Ask HN: What can you realistically manufacture in your garage?
I'm not a mechanical engineer at all, unfortunately (most of HN readers are probably working in IT). And I don't have access to mechanical engineer friends, or the budget to pay people. So I hope someone is getting on it really fast now, because I'd say we need this urgently.

upstarter··on Shrooms: What You Need to Know
If you ever had this feeling telling you "This can't be it, there must be more to this story...", then you should at least consider this avenue.
upstarter··on Tell HN: You are not alone this Christmas
> believe in themselves instead of higher dimensional beings

Note:

It's not about not believing in yourself.

It's about acquiring the certainty that you are actually linked to the benevolent beings in the higher dimensions. Once you realize this, you can get immense help/guidance/information/capabilities. In short: It's about _empowering_ yourself, not _limiting_ yourself.

upstarter··on Tell HN: You are not alone this Christmas
> Citation needed.

_Experience needed_ is what you're actually saying. For those living exclusively in the material dimension and who are thus having a hard time with the subtle dimensions, psychedelics may give you that break-through experience that you need as a starting point.

upstarter··on Tell HN: You are not alone this Christmas
Nobody in this World has ever been alone.

Everybody has their team of guides in the higher dimensions, and they are never on vacation, they are present every second of every day and every night.

You just need to learn to perceive them and to connect to them.

upstarter··on Apache Struts Statement on Equifax Security Breach
> 4. Establish security layers. It is good software engineering practice to have individually secured layers behind a public-facing presentation layer

What are your best sources/tutorials explaining the perfect server architecture setup which address this point?

upstarter··on Apache Struts Statement on Equifax Security Breach
> 1. Understand which supporting frameworks and libraries are used in your software products and in which versions. Keep track of security announcements affecting this products and versions.

This issue is solved by having your server OS download and install security updates automatically, which amounts to more or less uncommenting 1 line of config.

Edit: Downvoter(s), please comment.

upstarter··on Apache Struts Statement on Equifax Security Breach
> The problem is that Equifax put within webserver's reach information that had no business being there.

Can you please link to your preferred tutorials (or other sources) which explain how to set up the most secure server architecture, with regards to this story/subject, for those of us who would like to do a better job?

Thanks a lot!

upstarter··on Source: Apple Will Fight 'Right to Repair' Legislation
Well, this anti-environmental attitude of theirs is clearly visible in their design already. I.e. the fact that you can't take out (and replace) the battery. It also means that you can't interrupt power supply, which means you remain trackable 100% of the time you are an Apple customer.
upstarter··on Canadian journalist's detention at US border raises press freedom alarms
> I still wipe my phone and restore from iCloud after I've made my way through customs or border control.

It's not enough to just re-install the OS. You have to have your hardware recycled (discarded). Within a couple of seconds, they can put spyware onto your firmware by simply inserting a prepared USB device. The only way to get rid of that kind of spyware is to destroy the hardware.

The other solution is to not travel to any totalitarian countries or to travel there without any hardware, if you must.

upstarter··on Canadian journalist's detention at US border raises press freedom alarms
> I’ve always found it ridiculous that the content of devices is fair game.

Even more important to me is the fact that once you lose exclusive physical control over your hardware, you must consider it compromised, and therefor have it recycled (it is enough to simply connect a prepared USB device to your device for a couple of seconds in order for you to lose total control over it and be under permanent and total remote surveillance).

To me, this is more than enough of a reason to simply not travel to countries like the US (and now apparently Canada as well) anymore. And any such country certainly doesn't deserve us.

upstarter··on One Road Out of Depression
Reading through the suggestions here, I would suggest, if you're in a really deep hole, combine as much as you can from "all of the above".
upstarter··on One Road Out of Depression
I was able to drop anti-depressants with 1 super-well-prepared LSD experience in nature. Since then, I do meditation daily, up to 1.5 hours at most (Jon Kabat-Zinn's mindful meditation method). Plus, I redo LSD once every 6 months. This worked extremely well.

The pharma industry hates me for saying that. Not sorry.
