twen_ty··on OpenSpec – A lightweight and configurable AI spec framework
Can someone tell me how this stuff is any different from the 90's let's use UML for code gen and how it's not going to fail in the same way?

In my experience, spec drift is the main reason why none of these tools work. Maybe they work for one shot greenfield feature generation but in a large, multi developer long lived code bases, specs rot and end up being more pain than they are worth.

twen_ty··on A whole civilization might die tonight
This is what happens when there's no effective opposition. Where are the dems? Where's the press?
twen_ty··on Court filings allege Meta downplayed risks to children and misled the public
This. I've reported scammers so many times in Facebook, it's so obvious but obviously it's not a priority for them.
twen_ty··on A visual history of Visual C++ (2017)
Oh man Visual Assist. Was it whole tomato software or something like that? It was amazing back in the day!
twen_ty··on Show HN: I rewrote my Mac Electron app in Rust
Or alternatively, why would SQLite be not as performant as Redis in embedded context?
twen_ty··on Kotlin-Lsp: Kotlin Language Server and Plugin for Visual Studio Code
Apart from legacy projects written in Kotlin, after Java 21/23, what's the argument for using Kotlin anymore, especially that it's a proprietary language?
twen_ty··on The Gang Has a Mid-Life Crisis
That also created the biggest singular transfer of wealth. So your argument is that the peasants are no longer starving and well fed. If that's the ambition level you're happy to live by then there's no further comment.
twen_ty··on The young, inexperienced engineers aiding DOGE
Why is this flagged?
twen_ty··on Rails is better low code than low code
What is low code anyway in 2024?

For example, is AWS Amplify or Firebase low code?

twen_ty··on What Is Io_uring?
So it's 2024 and Linux still doesn't have what Windows NT had 30 years ago?
twen_ty··on London saw a surprising benefit to ultra-low emissions zone: More active kids
Exactly. Came here to say the same thing. I live in zone 2 and I'd say that majority of the households don't own a car because they don't need one. We only got a car after we had kids and used to Uber around when we needed a car, a lot cheaper than full time car ownership.
twen_ty··on No More Blue Fridays
Can someone tell me what's the advantage of eBPF over a user mode driver? The article makes it look it eBPF is have your cake and eat it too solution which is too good to be true? Can you run graphics drivers in eBPF for example?
twen_ty··on Women who make Samsung semiconductors are striking
Peak HN right here. Top comment is on semantics but not on the original content.
twen_ty··on Unitree G1 Humanoid Agent
Young me would've seen this as an astounding feat of engineering.

Old old me sees this as something to be scared of.

Multimillionaire tech bro returns a $4k VR headset because he's unhappy. The end.
twen_ty··on SXSW Tried to Silence Critics with Bogus Trademark and Copyright Claims
That would ultimately mean lesser litigation and lawyers. Sounds like a very commie thing to say.
twen_ty··on Surge Pricing Is Coming to More Menus Near You
Wait till your grocery store starts surge pricing.

So IEEE is now allowing click bait articles from commercial vendors?
twen_ty··on The Rust project has a burnout problem
This is why I think that C++ will be around in the next 50 years but Rust? I can't tell.
twen_ty··on Web browser as GUI, with your preferred language in the backend
Tauri can use a separate browser runtime if required. The use default is a space saving mechanism.
twen_ty··on Ask HN: What side projects landed you a job?
Wait you're the guy who wrote the mature optimization book, right?

That VC funding table is everything that's absurdly wrong with VC money. How TF is Postman worth $434M at $5.6B valuation?
twen_ty··on Meta deletes Al Jazeera presenter’s profile after show criticising Israel
I'm sorry but under Elon X has become a platform where racists, xenophobes, conspiracy theorists, antisemites, islamophobes etc. have thrived - the ADL blame game from Elon smells of deflection from the reality that advertisers don't want to be associated with a platform that mainstreams unhinged content.

> Apple famously doesn't do any of this with your iPhone

Maybe that's why 50% of iPhone users still don't know that they can use long press on they keyboard (or space bar) to gain cursor control - and this is just one example.

twen_ty··on Tell HN: Eid Mubarak
Have a look at this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6vfsYwXW6I.

The most misunderstood part about Islam is that how practical the religion is - Islam expects believers to give it their best shot, within reason and without being judged by some rigid binary rule.

It's perfectly okay to not fast for 22 hours and it's also okay if you can make it. Islam prioritizes health and well being.

twen_ty··on DPReview.com to close
Checks date - it's not April 1st. This is incredibly sad - and also makes me angry how big corporations like Amazon can destroy communities just like that.

DPReview wasn't just about in-depth camera reviews which they pioneered and excelled at but also about the forums where photographers of all level of skills and interests would come together to share their passion and thoughts. This more than anything else would be a massive loss.

What's next? IMDB?
