trdtaylor1··on It’s ‘Back to That Isolation Bubble’ for Workers Pining for the Office
You think since it's only 25% of people want to return to office in any form (PwC survey) , reporters have to scrounge to get quotes for these articles; somehow phrasing it like it's the common opinion of people? Like the number of people whom want to go back are akin to the number of people who view Donald Trump should/(will) be 'reinstated', yet I don't see that crap on the front page of NYtimes.
trdtaylor1··on US to Advise Boosters for Most Americans 8 Months After Vaccination
The current vaccines were/are known to be non-sanitizing. The best vaccines are sanitizing, think measles vaccine. We never were going to reach herd immunity via natural infections and it appears with the current batch we're not going to with vaccines either. Natural infection and a now-canceled nasal vaccine did produce sanitizing effects albeit shortlived.

Towards your original point, only 15% of the world is vaccinated. Say even 5% extra could have been vaxed by now, a difference maybe but nowhere close to the order of magnitude difference required to drop mutation rate below multiple helpful ones per year

trdtaylor1··on Covid-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Cases: Data from the States
Strong concur. If anything this data collection, once you see the issues, inflames my own suspicions the vaccine is now far less effective, be it through time or evolution. 5% breakthrough hospitalized with data spotty, out of date, with underestimation by vaxed whom died with Covid not being counted 50% of the time. Vaccines work, even this one did originally, but as of this generally months old data, it's showing to be less effective.
trdtaylor1··on The CDC Needs to Stop Confusing the Public
This last one wasn't even close. The CDC straight up lied about vaxxed people not spreading the virus. The knowledge they had the same viral loads as unvaxxed had been around for months. I trust pre-prints more then the CDC now (don't trust pre-prints they haven't undergone any review).
trdtaylor1··on Bayer to Pull Glyphosate Products, from U.S. Home and Garden Market
I can confirm from personal experience dumping glyco on my yard, this isn't the same as DDT / PFAS.
trdtaylor1··on Peter Thiel’s $5B Roth IRA Tax Haven Is the Hottest New Investing Tip
Hot tip from Peter Thiel: Commit felony tax fraud, and do it big enough the IRS won't hold you accountable because you have more lawyers then they do.
trdtaylor1··on The Houseboat Wars of Richardson Bay
The harbormaster is blatantly lying about picking out which ones don't have people on them while walking the shore at dawn and dusk with his dog. He's destroyed the homes of a hundred people, whom now are living in a homeless encampment adjoining where he takes his "walks". And since it's California he's not carrying a gun to defend himself... So he's a liar or suicidal.
trdtaylor1··on Supreme Court sides with high school cheerleader who cursed online
It's typically a good decision if Thomas is against it. In life and in court decisions.
trdtaylor1··on U.S. Backs 15% Global Minimum Tax to Curb Profit Shifting Overseas
There's no other way then to establish AMT for corporations. Otherwise countries will apply deductions around this 15% global minimum anyway.
trdtaylor1··on The level of Mac malware is not acceptable, says Apple exec at Epic trial
This would align well (Some in Apple may say too well) with the Right To Repair movement.
trdtaylor1··on The level of Mac malware is not acceptable, says Apple exec at Epic trial
Not market crippling; nor reputationally harming level. Which is what the witness is inferring as the core reason to disallow the additional app stores. There's limited to no proof additional app stores are major conduits of malware in Android either.
trdtaylor1··on The level of Mac malware is not acceptable, says Apple exec at Epic trial
On cross examination:

"Yet, Google and its Android platform allows additional app stores. Are Android users inherently smarter?"

trdtaylor1··on Machine Learning at CNN
At the Navy, our best usage of ML is simply GUI scraping and figuring out the default action set for new hires paperwork. it basically is a screen macro that screams through forms. Took days before now takes 15 minutes. really dumb, but simple and useful in a bureaucratic 300k strong org, with possible real ML in the future for highlighting possible actions instead.
trdtaylor1··on Yuri Gagarin: Sixty years since the first man went into space [video]
'For all mankind' shows if the space race continued; brings to heart what these people felt after going up and to the moon only to be stuck in earth orbit maximum for the next 40 years.
trdtaylor1··on Multiple US Navy destroyers swarmed by mysterious 'drones' off California coast
agreed for the second sighting after everyone was made aware of them not being anything navy related. Given the waters, the proximity to other testing sites, it's likely the sailors didn't man the guns the first time for the simple reason of perhaps not being in the loop for a test.

Second time sounds like they weren't prepared to respond quick enough.

trdtaylor1··on Flipper Zero – Tamagochi for Hackers
Please don't be fake. Please don't be fake.

Deciding between 1, 2, or 3... Really it depends if I can use these with the new garage door openers made in the past 5 years.

trdtaylor1··on Do California’s Blackouts Make Sense?
There are many nonprofit electric co-ops providing high quality service in America.

Public transit in America most often the answer would be no. But public transit of say the rest of the world with multi-billions of dollars invested over the years into the public transit infrastructure leading to public owned and operated highly functional transit systems.

A for profit company will invest when it makes sense from a bottom line perspective. A public non-profit without corruption will invest when it makes sense from a public good perspective.

trdtaylor1··on New Device Harvests Energy in Darkness
As long as vacuum represents an energy differential worthwhile to exploit.

Heck, rusty iron in seawater generates enough energy to be usable.

trdtaylor1··on Linux Kernel Fastboot [pdf]
2 gb user + 1 gb swap + 1 gb rootfs unpacked in ram perhaps. They discuss a decompression operation and the only portion of the sequence that would occur in normally is unpacking a rootfs in RAM.
trdtaylor1··on Leadership Transition Announced for MIT Media Lab
"... whose goal is to stop taking hidden donations from child sex traffickers and murderous princes for reputation building"

nope, wait, didn't see that in the press release, taps still open boys.

trdtaylor1··on The flawed three-cueing system for teaching reading
Not in my personal case. My school didn't teach phonics, through 6 months of remedial tutoring with phonics I was able to go from being deemed a potential special ed student to being the most 'gifted' one. My full ride scholarship through academics stems from the course correction my parents made to the phonics path. I will be teaching my own children phonics with followups on the non-phonetically standard words.
trdtaylor1··on Hard Drive of Hearing: Disks That Eavesdrop with a Synthesized Microphone [pdf]
For those now questioning hard drives in their security arenas.

The 'researchers' (again, it's Wenyuan Xu, she's the clickbait of security research) took computer speakers on nearly max volume onto either side of a hard drive. Shazam barely recognizes the song (more often recognizes it as something else).

Wenyuan does this every time.

trdtaylor1··on Show HN: Cloud Maker – Rapidly create cloud architecture diagrams
1. Examples. 5+. Draw in a user.

2. On prem installs need to be fully creatable. Draw in smaller users. 'Azure' can be on self hosted on prem. Small and medium businesses dwarf large businesses for new Azure sales.

trdtaylor1··on Drivers followed a Google Maps detour and ended up stuck in an empty field

trdtaylor1··on BladeRF 2.0 micro
USRP radio was 2000$ plus daughter board cost for specific bands. The price of this is so cheap; you can pop garages, car tire sensors, key fobs, cell phone signals, all in one.
trdtaylor1··on Navy Aims for “Compile to Combat in 24 Hours”
This is obscenely true and somewhat underrated.

Sad as it is, the prime reason for the strength of DoD computer systems, both afloat and in the air, is that it's difficult enough to use and interface with them-- 'Hacking' them, and getting the ability to pivot and deny/destroy is extremely limited. Sailor Joe Schmuckatelli's Fire control system is on a separate network because there was no common network at the time the contract was let for competition. It's both the worst and most extreme version of security through obscurity. Now you're introducing more connections, availability, and reliance on a core infrastructure-- Which still won't meet basic corporate cybersecurity / patch control doctrine.

trdtaylor1··on Thousands Say Kratom Cured Their Addiction, Government Says It’s Another Opioid
Sounds like trigeminal neuralgia or some other nerve impingement.

effects from coffee / prescription anti-inflammatory are good indications towards that

trdtaylor1··on Thousands Say Kratom Cured Their Addiction, Government Says It’s Another Opioid
And so do video game addicts.

Just because something is dependence inducing doesn't mean it should be ever illegal.

If Kratom addicts start robbing convenience stores and offering blowies for Kratom cash i'll believe it.

trdtaylor1··on Artificial Ovaries Could Expand Fertility Options for Chemo Patients
Their answer of grafting ovarian tissue into place is a terrible choice, for all the reasons listed. Just make an artificial WOMB, figure out how to cleanly generate sex cells, and provide the immune system information from mother.
trdtaylor1··on The stability implications of the US nukes' burst-height compensating super-fuze
This was why I was assuming the Russians brought back the nuclear torpedo. Not needing the B part of a ICBM greatly decreases fuel and thus size requirement.
