Currently looks like the attacker had legitimate access to the required keys, so perhaps more of a traditional compromise rather than a cryptocurrency/contract centric one.
It’s relatively trivial to use a mixer, just like sending any other transaction. The mixer deals with all the complexity. However almost all mixers have been eventually compromised. It’s likely chainalysis and others can easily demix the transactions, so they really shouldn’t be entirely trusted.
Pointing out a slippery slope doesn’t mean it isn’t worth considering the consequences.
My position is indeed speculative, however it’s not without evidence. We very rarely regain rights or freedoms when they are taken so I think it’s valid to be concerned about the same thing happening here.
We shouldn’t applaud the normalization of health status checks outside a border crossing. The world has a nasty trend of using crises to erode privacy and we collectively never recover - what was sold as temporary becomes permanent, endlessly extended and expanded.
I’m not an antivaxer. The vaccine works and I believe it’s really safe. I’m vaccinated. Nearly anyone who is capable to go to a bar can easily go get vaccinated. If they don’t, I’m not interested in saving them from themselves, honestly.
If the spread or variant breakthrough or some other aspect is so critical that we need to resort to novel privacy violations we should just shut down again instead.
I wouldn’t install anti-cheat malware personally, but I think many of the people who want to play these games care more about not having cheaters in their games than having ring 0 control.
They’re extremely passionate about their skills and want nothing more than a fair playing field. Playing only with friends is not a real solution.
Computing freedom means you have the freedom to give up control, too. It’s your choice.
Behavior like this is extremely common in the security community, and not even just towards women. Unfortunately many people in the industry are essentially socially maligned outcasts and fail to see how inappropriate it is to use this same behavior towards strangers, especially women, at a conference. It’s not a hacker IRC channel with people you’ve known for a decade who appreciate low effort dark humor, it’s sexual harassment.
DeFi, generally on Ethereum, would be severely impacted from a Tether fallout. Curve’s largest pool, which is the basis for a lot of yield in other services, can be drained to zero if Tether has even a minor sustained depeg. Tether backed loans at a variety of services would likely default sending liquidation events across all the major tokens on Uniswap and Sushi. Bitcoin wouldn’t do great but it is insulated from a DeFi ecosystem collapse that would undermine Ethereum’s value.
As for regulatory risk, I think privacy coins are the biggest target.
“Cryptocurrencies are described by their fans as a people-powered revolution, digital banking unchained from the interests of the wealthy and powerful.“
Not quite correct. The wealthy and powerful can be wealthy and powerful and express their interests. They just have no special powers, as crypto currencies aim to be permissionless and deregulated.
That means price manipulation or other financial games are largely quite ok by crypto standards so long as anyone is invited. It’s anti-bank and anti-government.. not anti-capitalist or anti-finance.
Whether you are on board with this vision or if it’s good for society is another issue, but crypto is largely fulfilling its goals in my opinion.
You can change your display name on a per channel basis after you join. They can still see your account tag if they click on your account, so there’s no way to disassociate accounts with a single login. There’s also no way to change avatars per channel, AFAIK.
To be honest, I’m not that in touch with enterprise. Despite Discord’s appearance as a platform for gamers it has pretty much dominated slack for a non-self hosted solution for the areas I’m familiar with. Small teams, OSS, cryptocurrency, strongly distributed WFH type startups, conferences, etc. Private channels are role based so the general public can integrate communication tightly with the main team while they work behind the scenes. I wouldn’t be surprised if Discord launches a professional de-gamer-branded version soon. Target markets aside you simply get more from Discord for most general use cases and it feels like Slack is playing catch up rather than leading (like they used to) on some popular features.
Not none. The downsides are moderately decreased in my experience. I’m not sure the amount in tea, I suppose it varies greatly, but I’ve tried several different l-Theanine doses and caffeine mostly still feels like caffeine, just slightly modified.
$27.7 billion. Seems quite high given Discord’s momentum. Haven’t really been spending much time on Slack for a couple years and most new companies/projects seems to be selecting Discord. I suppose Salesforce has the money, though. I wonder if they are going to try to reposition it.
This is like asking if you have to learn German to find work. Obviously you should be able to find work in any major language, but it may increase your opportunities (if you want to work in Germany.)
Under ideal conditions, I believe in person is optimal. There really is a sort of collaborative emergence of ideas that I don’t particularly find online, in honesty. The issue is that conditions are almost never ideal, and under non-ideal conditions employee well being and efficiency is much better under WFH.
YouTube has some of the worst algorithmic censorship of any social media platform and very little creator support for recourse. People seem to regularly lose channels they spent years building, along with all the revenue and subscriptions. It’s pretty much required to plan for the worst and have backup channels for your backup channels and be ready to start a viral campaign on Reddit just to have any chance to get your channel reopened.
I’d be surprised if anyone trusts them enough to stake their future on another one of their products. Not that TikTok doesn’t have their own serious problems but they have less of a track record and the topics are much more explicit, seems to be less collateral damage, which is easier for a creator to navigate.
The stacker game with the moving blocks always frustrated me, I spent way too much money trying to win that one and got quite good at everything but the last round. I wonder if that one is rigged too.
It’s vital to address ergonomic issues as soon as possible. Try a variety of keyboard and mouse positions, types, elevations to find something that works. There are general recommendations online but they don’t work for everyone.
They do indeed. And it’s difficult for people to figure out how to get the number down instead of paying more. Personally, I have iCloud sync entirely turned off, and just manually backup the few things I actually care about.
Smaller communes can successfully operate non-competitively. It seems the key is limiting membership to people seriously invested in the concept. With open societies that have large membership, competitive and power seeking forces from members uninterested in the vision seem to eventually dominate.
I won’t speak to how much we need DHA as adults or at what levels, but it’s found in algae and thus vegan DHA supplements exist. Ripple even makes a protein and DHA enhanced vegan milk substitute for kids that is pretty good.
I keep seeing this discussed, but I have honestly had difficulty getting relatively large loans against assets. All they seemed to care about was income. Yes, Buffet definitely has a better relationship with the bank than I, but I wonder if this is really possible to copy by the average person.
