toinetoine··on Custom Minecraft Classic client written from scratch in C
Great project, why though the insistence on no survival mode?

> It does not have a survival mode (nor will such a mode be added)

toinetoine··on Wild mammals are making a comeback in Europe
A few years ago I was in Cambridge, MA for a few months and was amazed you guys have wild turkeys hanging out in the middle of the city. I would occasionally be walking down a city street and there'd just be a group of large wild turkeys walking down the sidewalk.

Should linked lists also be renamed to blockchains?
toinetoine··on USPS Service Standards Maps
Interesting according to the map, the standard for first class mail from New York will reach the most northern part of Alaska in 4 days versus 5 days for Los Angeles.
toinetoine··on Embedded Malicious Code in node-ipc
Honestly, the way I wish we could fix this is to go back to people paying for software they rely on.

How would that be enforced though? Most companies aren't going to be ok making outside connections to the wider internet to check that their JSON de-serializing package can be used.

Home Assistant really is amazing. It has integrations [1] for anything you'd want and works on tons of devices. Hosting it locally on an old raspberry pi 3, has been controlling thermostat, lights, and (as of 2 weeks ago) sprinklers.

Looking at both, it looks like the gradual decline in the savings rate since the early 1980s correlates with a gradual decline in inflation from that time: https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/USA/united-states/infl...
toinetoine··on Epic Games steps up Apple fight with EU antitrust complaint
> Epic demands Apple do a thing = bad for Apple, bad for customers (good for Epic)

How is allowing developers to use alternate payment platforms "bad for customers"? Or, if not on the phone, at least to allow them to add funds to their account from the browser/another platform and use it in their iOS app?

toinetoine··on Show HN: v8-riscv — Port of JavaScript V8 engine to RISC-V
Sorry if this sounds cringe, complete hardware novice here

> RISC-V IS THE ISA not the silicon

Doesn't that still require the chip-maker to build the chip with an interface that allows RISC-V instructions to run on it? It's not possible to "flash" a existing intel x86 CPU and run RISC-V instructions on it right?

Las Vegas, a town where the majority people are employed in the hospitality/leisure industry (casinos, restaurants, convention prep, etc.)

SF where a huge amount of the residents have left the city since a majority of the white collar employees are WFH for the foreseeable future.

Not sure how you can take these places and extrapolate for the economic health of the entire country...

toinetoine··on Hinkley Point C nuclear plant to run £2.9bn over budget
The larger the project the more possible variables there are that can affect it. It's impossible to predict all of them.

BYD with their tiny battery packs
My friend bought a BYD sedan last year for 100k RMB ($15k) and it gets ~300km per charge.
toinetoine··on Svalbard is as close as you can get to a place with open borders
so the economy grows through immigration instead of debt.

Without debt how would the state pay the monthly income for the increasing number of people coming to collect it?

toinetoine··on Russia’s permafrost is melting and it could have a devastating global effect
"We see places in Northern Europe, Russia as you say, Northern and Central Eurasia and Canada. These are the types of countries that could actually benefit from some amount of warming in terms of sort of increasing economic growth and economic productivity.
