tjrgergw··on Ask HN: Why aren't Django Admin style dashboards popular in other frameworks?
Hmm. I know Django admin is one of the best things about Django... but why $1m? If each developer gets paid $200k/yr, that's 5 developers for 1 year? Sounds crazy to me.
tjrgergw··on Why Is the Django Admin "Ugly"?
I don't know, but also this is not a question that interests me. I'm not looking for tech for the sake of tech. I'm looking to solve my problems, and this solves my problems - that's all I care about.
tjrgergw··on Isn't That a Balloon? Deflating a DoD UFO Video
What's surprising to me is that they always hype these pilots as being the most high-trained and smartest people in the planet.... and more often than not it sounds like they don't know what parallax is?
tjrgergw··on Sam Bankman-Fried testifies, says he "skimmed over" FTX terms of service
It's ineptitude. It's always been ineptitude.
tjrgergw··on Why Is the Django Admin "Ugly"?
Django Admin is pretty cool.

It's not uncommon when starting a new project that I pick Django just to have Admin, and then ignore its usual views altogether.

tjrgergw··on Study shows antibodies against PEG in 83% of the German population
> It has long been known that people can form defenses and thus antibodies against viruses. But antibodies can also develop against polyethylene glycol (PEG), a substance used in cosmetics, food and medicine.

People can develop antibodies against things which are not foreign micro-organisms. TIL.

(Obvious once you think about it. What you really develop antibodies to are proteins on the surface of micro-organisms)

Well, talk about a worldview-changing moment.

I don't have a point, I was linking for those who aren't aware of the British term "PPE"
tjrgergw··on Meta sued by states over harmful youth marketing
FINALLY we're getting to the point. The problem with facebook is first and foremost that it is addictive and was engineered to be addictive. About time.

tjrgergw··on The Humbling of the Maths Snobs
Calling SBF "a math snob" kind of implies his problem was just a miscalculation.

No, he's a swindler.

tjrgergw··on NASA just sent a software update to a spacecraft 12B miles away
I was gonna say "run it in the stars", but yours is funnier for some reason :-)
tjrgergw··on NASA just sent a software update to a spacecraft 12B miles away
Anyone else disappointed they didn't mention the actual number of bytes in the update?
tjrgergw··on 22-year-old builds chips in his parents' garage (2022)
Would you please share which city is this, that has everything within 10 minute walk in its suburbs?

I'm a European who's lived in an "American downtown" because I was told the suburbs are horrible, but what you're describing sounds great.

tjrgergw··on 22-year-old builds chips in his parents' garage (2022)
Oh man such a funny joke. It's funny because it's true.

That said, as a European the meme of "they started in their garage" always sounded so American. Maybe that's what Europe is lacking in terms of entrepreneurship - garages.

tjrgergw··on Peter Thiel was an FBI informant
Libertarians are always guilty of such "ironies", some would even call them hypocrisies. It's almost like the veneer of well reasoned ideology is a front just wanting more power.

Why, do you support the woke mind virus?

tjrgergw··on Addictive cheap and controversial: the rise of China’s Temu app
Many in the West are worried about the rise of China.

Seeing how shit _everything_ coming out of China is, I'm not worried.

> There is no need to argue about that between ourselves.

I don't know. Speaking strictly objectively: if you look at polls, Putin is extremely popular amongst republican voters.

So what are you suggesting? Reduce housing?
tjrgergw··on Inflated rents, high interest and lack of supply create European housing crisis

tjrgergw··on Vatniksoup: Elon Musk
I just said "peace is easy, you just have to surrender" as a caricature of these people, and immediately one of them shows up.

This is loser talk. I'm glad you're not in charge of anything.

Right because even with HTTPS, it's possible to know the domain you're accessing, even though you can't tell high individual urls you are accessing. Interesting.
