throwawaynay··on Tell HN: Disable adblocker when researching startup ideas
Great content without ads was normal on the internet for decades

if anything ads and SEO pushed people to produce worse content to make more cash

creating good content costs nothing besides your time, hosting good content costs almost nothing if your website is designed correctly

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: How do you cope with realizing you mostly wasted your potential?
The first sentences are good, but the last part is a bit hard to understand.

Do you write/speak very fast maybe? If I remember correctly you commented maybe less 2 than minutes after I posted, that seems extremely fast to write that much. Maybe if you just slowed down a little bit and spent time to make it more digestible it could be easier to read :)(it also might help you be less hurtful IRL)I'm a bit like that too

not trying to criticize you ;)

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: How do you cope with realizing you mostly wasted your potential?
When I say potential, I'm talking about your own personal/mental abilities.

Not about external factors that you couldn't control(such as poverty, abuse, irresponsible relatives, borderline criminal behavior from institutions), that made your abilities 10x less useful in that context and your efforts 10x less efficient.

Like honestly when I describe some aspects of my life in details, people think I'm making shit up.

I'm not talking about some guys who think they're smart and don't do anything about it.

I'm talking about growing up in the worst hood in your country, not having a single young neighbor who didn't spend some time in jail, getting physically assaulted almost daily for years, dealing with racists teachers when you get into a school outside your hood, having to deal with your father's eviction notice at 14 because he's too freaking stupid to take care of it, landlords near your college rejecting you because you're not white, having to live in abject conditions just so you can go to college, actually starting college 4 months late after everyone because you couldn't find a place to live. That's not even half of it.

I don't personally know a single person(with similar mental abilities)from the middle class, or even the lower middle class, who's doing worse than me.

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: How do you cope with realizing you mostly wasted your potential?
You're supposed to actually read the message before answering it.
throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Is it possible to be a data science “script kiddy”?
So there's https://fast.ai MOOCs+library which don't require a big theoretical background

I heard about a program that looked great to do data science from just data a while ago, but I can't find it :/ It was on Show HN I think

I found that tho, don't know if it's gonna be helpful: https://towardsdatascience.com/top-8-no-code-machine-learnin... https://www.obviously.ai/

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Why do so many geniuses work for evil companies?
Ok I'm going to be more specific.

I started this thread after watching a course from Yann Le Cunn, I just started thinking about how a smart guy like him could accept to work for FB.

How can a man who revolutionize the field of AI, work for 20years as a professor in the best universities, decide to help a company that is knowingly destroying teens mental health, manipulating society, causing deaths with fake news, or more or less causing a whole freaking genocide in Myanmar.

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Why do so many geniuses work for evil companies?
>They're not selling your data, or bringing the financial system down, or emptying the wallets of the poor.

A lot of those companies are literally doing that though.

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Why do so many geniuses work for evil companies?
Google literally removed their "don't be evil" motto. Facebook knowingly use software that destroy teens mental health according to their own research. Do I even need to talk about the atrocious working conditions in amazon's warehouses?

After that you have hedgefunds speculating on water and wheat, Nestlé literally murdering babies ( https://www.businessinsider.com/nestles-infant-formula-scand... ), Coca Cola hiring hitmen to murder political/climate change activists, any companies directly working with fossil fuels.

Besides that a lot of companies evilness is debatable, but definitely not those.

I think any sane person can agree that those companies are evil, if you think otherwise you're just lying to yourself.

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Why do so many geniuses work for evil companies?
"why do people get sick?""maybe because of diseases?"
throwawaynay··on Ask HN: How can I calculate my market value?
1 * how_much_you_can_convince_someone_to_pay_you

if 32k is normal for your country look elsewhere maybe

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Does the world need a “passport equality” movement?
Idealistically yes. But you should focus on financial inequality first(for example with global remote work accepted as the norm). If all of a poor third world country move to a first world country overnight this is just the same poor country on another continent.

I'm 100% for immigration, but realistically if you just allow everyone to move overnight, it's just going to make a big mess unless we first focus on financial inequality.

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: What's the most valuable thing that AI has generated?
If you're talking about money, targeted ads and attention grabbing algorithms maybe.

If you're talking about added value to our lives, probably better disease detection (computer vision models for cancer detection etc...), or maybe energy saving

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Why does Google have a much lower FIPS Encryption Level compared to IBM?
to protect you from most criminals while still allowing the 3 letters agencies to spy on you

don't forget that google was partially funded by CIA and NSA grants

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Any piece of hardware that was more of game changer than you expected?
sounds kind of insane that a 2-3k$ laptop can't compile stuff and allow you to browse the web at the same time lol
throwawaynay··on The first day of HN frontpage
it can if you're not cutting corners
throwawaynay··on Ask HN: How do you market your new B2B SaaS platform?
not an expert but the most straightforward way seems to be: identify potential leads on linkedin, contact them there or coldmail them with stuff like hunter.io+lemlist
throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Can anyone explain the startup funding scene?
Rich people have too much money so they put it in riskier ventures
throwawaynay··on Ask HN: How do people with Android phone do airdrop stuff?
I send myself emails, it's never really been much of an issue
throwawaynay··on Ask HN: If you were making a tiny social network site, what stack would you use?
not a stack, mastodon
throwawaynay··on How to make sure you're not installing spyware to your computer via USB drivers?
not an expert, but maybe try analyzing the network? with stuff like wireshark? if the driver is sending data there may be a problem
throwawaynay··on Ask HN: How to get good at building functional prototypes fast
"I usually put all my code in one file "

Stopped reading after that, are you insane?

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Why do we push people into STEM?
except we are not doctors? the average web dev(aka most devs) is closer to a plumber or an electrician than a doctor

maybe 10% of devs have actually complicated jobs, the rest is just crud BS

we have access to good jobs and good salary because the educational system is crap, not because SWE is some kind of elite field unreachable to most people

it's outrageous that learning about software development is not an option starting from middle school, at this point it's more important than like half of what you learn in school

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Worth to grind LeetCode for a self-taught developer?
depends on what you want to do imo

web dev at an average to good company? no absolutely not worth it

anything at a FAANG? +/- mandatory

anything that involves complex algorithms?(efficient delivery/dispatching system at scale, complex social media, complex games, anything where efficiency/speed/low memory usage is extremely important) probably yes

otherwise some basic algorithm solving is probably enough(I really enjoyed the algorithmic exercises on freecodecamp web path for example, I think it's just enough for about 80-90% of junior programming jobs)

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Are we allowed to hate life?
it's considered a mental illness because it goes against basic natural instincts

we lived shitty lives for millions of years, but we kept going.

+ if you get cancer because of pollution, you're still sick, even if it's because of your environment, and we're still gonna treat you

same goes for hating your life, if you don't have the means to change the shitty environment making you sick(anxious, depressed...) we can at least put some mitigations in place

if I knew that I was about to die in 6 months, I would feed justified despair, but I'd still like a bunch of drugs and some support/therapy, to try to at least soothe the pain

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: How do I stop being exploited by my company?
You leave, the last time I really felt exploited I didn't even feel the need to negotiate, I just left. There is no point in trying to make things better with people who are knowingly exploiting you, you don't negotiate with tyrants.
throwawaynay··on JRE Missing (Rogan episodes removed by Spotify)
I love intelligent comments
throwawaynay··on Show HN: A Penny – answer questions, earn dollars
kind of like the worst place to promote this given the avg salary here try tiktok
throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Instagram disabled my business' account before I ever logged in. Help?
vpn/proxy?

try to create it from a phone(and with a phone number instead of email) with a different IP/using 4g

throwawaynay··on Ask HN: Why Are There So Many 10 Minute Email Sites?
Very simple:domains get blocked very often on a lot of sites where a lot of people want to use them, so there is a big demand for making new domains all the time.(and it's more like few hundreds/thousands of sites)

for some sites I had to try like 10 differents mails

throwawaynay··on Have the chance to move to USA or Canada – which one would you choose?
"no objective facts nor sources were provided, so they are assumed as irrational beliefs only"

That's just a reflect of your ignorance. You live in a bubble and you're ignorant about your own country, I don't have time to do google search for you.
