I still think there is a certain point to the anti-intellectualism association. If you’re if the mind that universities are involved in something of a scam, printing degrees for low-quality, low-effort students in exchange for those sweet, sweet loan dollars… that will naturally lead to folks having a raised eyebrow at work wondering if Timmy in the corner is really worth is salt or just has a gimme-degree not dissimilar from the perception issues of the Affirmative Action hires - one now begins to question if everyone, or just most, have a bullshit degree and an inability to really think… just another NPC.
It can and does erode societal trust.
Do better.
The tradeoff of today with Spring Boot is you might get bitten down the line with a little configuration mystery, although it’s such a well-blazed path you’re probably in good company and will find your error solved and documented.
In addition, it’s Java so virtually any serious task is done in a well-blazed fashion with numerous open-source options available. In contrast my Node library I used to generate and validate an XML document at work last month cannot read in its own XML output. It’s a boon for efficiency.
The only downside Java really has is that it’s a bit harder to “hack on” a dynamic, evolving JSON structure so it may be a bad fit for organizational reasons if your company lacks a cohesive, mature Engineering staff.
So what gives here?
Just as all the Hacker News fellated Democrat-Socialist utopias of current Europe are not Communist.
The seller would need special ATF licensure and follow an onerous process to sell what is typically considered safety equipment in Europe, ironically. This involves submitting fingerprints, passport photos, and a lengthy (9+ month) approval process on the part of the ATF.
For the self-manufacture, this has been de-factor outlawed by the current regime with DIY kits being arbitrarily reclassified as suppressors themselves. Most if not all Form 1 builds are outright denied.
So, in short, Temu cannot sell these at all. Of course they also occasionally sell selector switches to concert Glock handguns to fully automatic. This is even more comically illegal than a suppressor workaround.
I would certainly hope my state isn’t giving out tax-payer funded luxury stoves.
There is no such thing as “free” here.
Absolute joke content that doesn’t belong on a site like this.
I’ve been to juvenile prison, loads of these teenagers were out and out proud of their being in. They would happily manipulate and game anything to their advantage, and as a result the guards are forced to be intolerant assholes for the most part. If they aren’t, they’ll be taken for suckers.
So how do you sort of the otherwise good kid who gets into a fight or thought weed wasn’t a big deal from the future career criminals of America?
All in all, this FP just reeks of a leftist hit-piece, Sparta is so associated with right-wing toxic masculinity and so must be pilloried. After all, they’ve already torn down beautiful statues venerating heroes, now own to the intangible idols.
I’ve seen similar in Federal contracting, hire a tick-the-box preference point partner with a make-work role to get contracts.
After all, the US Air Force successfully provided air support to our ally’s during the Bay of Pigs leading to a free and prosperous Cuba.
If we look to the Middle East, our Allie’s, the Taliban, share great relations with us to this day after we supported them in their endeavor to build a stable, prosperous, and free society after overthrowing the Soviets.
And how could we forget our friends in South Vietnam?
Considering Us behavior when the Soviet Union installed assets on Cuba, there isn’t a whole lot of ethical ground to be found here. Just Great Power politicians playing stupid games with innocent lives.
Of course worse inflationary crises have happened in Western history and while they returned on a large enough time scale that really didn’t matter all to much for all the poor citizens for whom their hard earned wealth was nukes from orbit.
At risk of starting a fun flame war, it’s more complicated than that.
Outside of a contingent of Polish mercenaries, whom were deemed something to the effect of honorary blacks, the new former slave regime effectively genocided the whites of the island. Men, women, children, the works. Not only that, but they threw in the mixed as well. Then went about taking all of everyone’s property.
I don’t know where the exact reasonable line is for revenge when you’ve been enslaved, but I’m certain they went well and unquestionably over it.
To that end, I don’t know where the reasonable counter-balance is for France to make claim against the former slave colony for its crimes against humanity but the idea that they have clean hands and or are owed something is an appalling revisionist history of the country.
Something about those old times regional beers with “no taste” fascinates me as much if not more than all the craft ones. Like drinking a time capsule being able to relate with someone from an oddly specific time and place.
I wonder why Japanese Americans get this kind of outpouring of support we see in the thread in a way that German Americans would never get, having been shit on for not one but two world wars.
That you’re being currently downvoted for mentioning this fact is itself concerning.
Considering Detroit once held the record for patents filed, this isn’t all too far fetched. Maybe there is some type of awful natural law to be found even?
Much like other commenters in the thread, I’ve had a man threaten to “cut my mother effing throat” in broad daylight in front of a dozen bystanders. Thankfully, he turned tail once I drew a handgun and no one died that day. Police showed up 45 minutes later and were of no use, so why bother reported the three times I’ve had guns pointed at me in traffic since 2020?
When police response times are at or above the hour mark and the best you’ll get is an “oh that sucks man, need a report for insurance?” people stop reporting crimes. Now the politicians get to pretend crime is “better”.
Spent 12 years in “the City,” in Charleston, SC to be exact. Watched it go from “hidden gem” to “how much more Carpetbagger can we take.” Mixed blessing there, sold our meager home for a lot more than it should have been worth and moved to the mountains. No more getting cut off every other stop light. No more pistols brandished in traffic. No more “oh wow our across-the-creek neighbor had a home invasion.” All in all, seems with a certain level of density people just lose their mind and sense of decency. All those whacky stories you’d hear growing up about senselessness on the streets of a true city like LA or New York.
It may sound stupid in hindsight, but I grew up in a small coastal town of about 10,000 and growing up going to college and then a city for work was “the path” - it never occurred to me that maybe not everyone is built for a city, big or small. I’m not all that interested in the nightlife beyond the couple years I spent going out as a young adult. There really isn’t anything interesting about that $20 cheeseburger with an “aioli” on it. I’ve seen the couple of bands live that I wanted to.
At a certain point I’m just paying too much money to live in a place that makes me mentally ill to be in. With remote becoming no longer a weird exception - take advantage if you can.
More seriously, are we going to have a put disclaimers on an all encyclopedic articles that “standards of conduct were much different then”? How much pretext then becomes necessary?
