tgcordell··on Cuba's grid goes offline with blackout after a major power plant fails
Probably the same reason it hasn’t happened in the majority of countries with similar solar opportunity.
tgcordell··on Fedora Asahi Remix
the second sentence of the section titled "The best Linux laptop audio you’ve ever heard" says "Just install Fedora Asahi Remix and enjoy high-quality audio right out of the box, no setup needed."
tgcordell··on Goldman is looking for a way out of its partnership with Apple
I don't think this is unique to Apple as my Chase cards do this. I'm assuming most CCs do.

Getting your data out of their platform to do analysis on it use to be such a PIA. Have they resolved this yet?

Whats even worse - they do make it for Switch, which is ARM based. A lot of the leg work has already been completed.
tgcordell··on Tales of the M1 GPU
I understood deadnaming to generally pertain to gender identity. I don't think it's far-fetched to initially consider Asahi Lina's name as a Pseudonym/Alias/Pen-Name, as many creatives (authors, artists, musicians) have been doing for hundreds of years.

If it is a gender identity decision, I still don't view it as malicious for the OP to ask. The context just isn't there in the blog post to make that clear.

tgcordell··on Switzerland’s underground freight project gets start date
Its Switzerland, so I'd assume the mountains and snow play a big part in increasing the cost of surface road building and snow clearing, making tunnels more attractive.
tgcordell··on Apple releases software fix for MacBook Pro slowdown
As Mojave is in beta right now, I don't think Apple feels obligated to rush out a Supplemental update like they did for their production OS. Also not sure how they would have already patched in Mojave if they hadn't had it fixed in HS when the hardware was released.

I expect the next Mojave beta release to resolve this, but don't expect the next release to come faster due to this bug.

tgcordell··on Apple HomePod
I believe they opened up Apple Music for third party integration. Sonos should be able to integrate it into their native control app to solve your issue?

Would it be possible to use the new third party keyboard API in iOS8 to have a regular styled keyboard that types in an upside down fashion? This would allow the user to continue having the same input experience, but translate the output experience? Once confirmed this is possible, you could take OP's idea and apply as well.

I caught this too. Must be a typo-switcheroo
tgcordell··on Judge Rejects Defense That FBI Illegally Hacked Silk Road, on a Technicality
I view that form of thinking as a very slippery slope. The government should get what it wants, but what it wants should be defined by the people. Currently, in the HN community, the view of what the government is doing and what the rules are aren't aligned. Thus, we are pushing for rectification. We've got to take a stand somewhere. That's the only way progress is made.
tgcordell··on Judge Rejects Defense That FBI Illegally Hacked Silk Road, on a Technicality
I have a notion that you are not a natural born American citizen. Please, don't hold it against me if this assumption is wrong, but its the first thing that springs to my mind by your confusion proposed.

I (and many others) view the government as a service by the people, for the people. It should adhere to the same laws and constraints that the people do in order to be kept in check and not all-powerful. One of these regulations is that citizens have powerful rights of ownership over their personal belongings and no one should be able to rifle through them without permission. Objects/data/articles/ideas can be held private for a multitude of reasons, and due process should be followed in order to gain access to these details. By removing the government's requirement to abide by this, you grant it an immense power to control and have knowledge of your life. That simply isn't necessary for the true function of government. Our original constitution and amendments attempted to protect its citizens from that fear.

tgcordell··on A Watch Guy's Thoughts on the Apple Watch After Seeing It in the Metal
They invited him to the Keynote. They wanted him to be there. It's his profession to write reviews on the watch industry. All signs point to this being a mutual agreement, but of course, we question whether money was exchanged? We can ask that question of any and all reviews for products, no matter the company or the author. I guess what I'm driving at is... Why are you cynical about this particular article?
tgcordell··on How did we get so busy?
Doing 'whatever the fuck you want' costs money too, and its something you'll have avoided due to the frugal life style. So, at the point you retire early, either your frugal habits have become ingrained, or you quickly learn that 'fun' comes at a price. Its an interesting conundrum to say the least.
tgcordell··on Tesla Motors plans to debut cheaper car in early 2015 (2013)
This is a huge issue that doesn't get a lot of airtime. Many urban city dwellers rely on street parking. What solution is around for them to charge their vehicles? I love the concept Tesla is pushing, but this problem has me vexed.
tgcordell··on Build Your Own Lockitron With Twilio, Arduino, and Node.js
