Congress people are making about $176k, it's crazy to think top execs "median" make less than a congressman.

What is scary though is how easily the rfid can be read off of a person. It's a great thing to have but card issuers should include some kind of protective sleeve with every card rather than relying on the consumer to be both aware of and able to use an rfid blocking wallet.
tehaugmenter··on Which search engine is the least censored?
I figure to be a more complete test you'd have to include Baidu the Chinese search engine, which is in no doubt censored. Or old school engines like ask.com, and Yahoo even though they serve Bing results to my understanding it would be nice to include them. Either way, good showcase, great example queries. Although I do think some should be catering the MSM narrative to see if the results give contrary results included.

I mean you vote with your dollar. Stop supporting these bad practices. I don't, it's a hull to get everyone to stop and force themselves to work around. Maybe it's a losing battle, but stop giving them money and we'll be better off. I would not purchase a product with an underlying subscription. I even go as far as getting older cars so I don't have to worry about it.

I tried Firefox and Chrome to see if it was a browser dependency. I tried work and home internet to see if it was a firewall issue.

In the Console if you bring it up you can see the issue. It's unable to connect to the socket it's trying to connect to. So a live bug.

tehaugmenter··on Ask HN: Is Visual Studio Code the Emacs of 21st century?
All this spotlight on VS Code and no mention of Sublime Text? I view Sublime Text (even though there is a license fee) as more emacs like than VS Code. I side with others to say its no where near Emacs because Emacs is Emacs. My most cherished Sublime Text plugins began as an Emacs extension (xiki). So I would say Emacs is important to the ecosystem but there's no way Product X will be an Emacs of the 21st century.

Company I worked for moved from Ghost over to ImageX (aka WAIK: Windows Automated Installation Kit) which worked well since we needed it for MDT or Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. They built a GUI for ImageX and it was more compressed than Ghost for the same hard drives.

"The purest form of insanity is to leave everything the same and the same time hope that things will change." -Albert Einstein.

I mean, to be frank, I think that both major parties are playing a role in this illusion that you, the voter, have control over the government without grabbing pitchforks and heading to their office in your preferred form of communication. We live in a country where you can decide your own fate. You can work for what you want, no one will stop you. The government seems to have forgot what "govern" means. They get their hands into things they shouldn't be in, and then make the every-man look like a criminal. Why do we continue to rely on a capitalistic fascist society? One that pays us in non-backed currency as well. This is literally alchemy and everyone buys into their bullshit.

Yeah from time to time it's hard to remember how much harsher HN is with comments compared to reddit.
tehaugmenter··on On OS X, why does sudo ls show hidden (dot) files?
This is certainly interesting. Too bad it doesn't suffer from the same robustness the stackoverflow link had.

I for one get frustrated at work, using git on windows, when I try to create a .gitignore file or something of the sort and windows bitches at me saying "You must type a file name". At least there are easy workarounds for it, but explorer is just retarded.

tehaugmenter··on PostgreSQL vs. MS SQL Server
I've used PowerShell quite a bit actually, even wrote a few script a couple years ago to work with Active Directory. I still can't see myself managing a server from there. I know configurations and everything are possible through it, like the registry and such. However config files are just so much more friendly to me. Which is probably why I would pick Linux on that. Permissions are also a little bit more basic and harder to screw up in Linux IMO.
tehaugmenter··on PostgreSQL vs. MS SQL Server
I mean you have a point on the OS, being in the cloud is a definite bonus. However caring what OS it's running on comes down to something he was brief about in his article. For me, I can manage an Linux server no issue with just a bash prompt, I can't honestly say the same about a Windows Server. Other people might argue Apache and running that on a Windows server is kind of pointless? I don't know, just spit-balling that one.

Obviously Windows would be IIS, which means overall the OS choice is a nice one. The fact that you can choose which one to host with, which means you get something comfortable.

You could certainly do that with 2 ports, or 4, but you're being forced to do it now. I'm not okay with that. Just a simple scenario where you're charging and want to connect your 6th gen iPod to the computer needing an adapter is mildly annoying. 2 would be preferable. Apple should really host a survey on their site regarding this.
tehaugmenter··on DirectX 11 vs. DirectX 12 oversimplified
I too would like to know the relevance. From a wiki article [1]

In general, Direct3D is designed to virtualize 3D hardware interfaces. Direct3D frees the game programmer from accommodating the graphics hardware. OpenGL, on the other hand, is designed to be a 3D hardware-accelerated rendering system that may be emulated in software. These two APIs are fundamentally designed under two separate modes of thought.

tehaugmenter··on Microsoft's new browser and the Windows 10 January preview build
I work for a company that has a "managing" application that runs on windows. This application has a browser plugin that runs in an equivalent IE7 environment which must be supported.

Unfortunately that is what you get with proprietary sometimes.
