Thanks for the feedback!
teejae··on Graham's Number
You were playing Liar's Poker.
teejae··on The Death Of Expertise
Do not underestimate the price of taxes to pay for said education. It probably all comes out about the same. This assumes you also work and pay taxes to the entity that provided your education.
teejae··on Airlines offer no-crying sections
FYI, this is how scuba divers clear their ears as they change depths. It's basic training.
teejae··on Google Glass - If I Had Glass
In Korea and Japan, people wear glasses to look cool, and they are cheap. People who don't need glasses either just wear glasses with either no-prescription or no lenses. It's not nerdy. It's cool. Think jewelry. Not utility.
teejae··on Google Maps for iOS
Yes, voice navigation should work fine on an iPhone 4. Enjoy :).
teejae··on How we keep GitHub fast
I think we at YouTube think our site loads pretty fast.
teejae··on Silicon Valley Is Stuck In An Uncanny Valley Of Density
I beg to differ. I live in Tokyo. I think it feels great and fun. It's New York, but nice. There are open spaces to the north/south/east/west, within 30 min (depending on which side you live).
teejae··on Light Table Is On Kickstarter
Agreed. One reason I use it is BECAUSE it runs the same across all platforms, and is the slickest editor on all of them. I do development in multiple OS/environments daily.
teejae··on In-memory key-value store in C, Go and Python
FYI, In the Go version, the lock can be added more simply, without the rw:

// Synchronize map access between multiple goroutines. type cache struct { m map[string]string sync.RWMutex }

Then, you can just use:

cache.Lock/Unlock/RLock/RUnlock directly. It's clearer. The beauty of Go's mixins.

teejae··on Introducing Instapaper 4.1 for iPhone, iPad
Definitely love the 11 inch Air for 3 reasons:

1. Highest dpi screen of a Mac 2. Keyboard travel 3. Overall solid feel

I use both a Pro and Air daily and can say without doubt that I always prefer the Air.

However, if there's rumor of a new Air coming out soon, I'd wait for that.

Marco, Hope you're reading this.

Yes, the fonts are great. Not sure if anyone has noticed, but on IPad3 with Elena font only while in landscape only, capitals are distorted/thin. It's fine in every other font with both portrait and landscape orientations.

Good Characters: BCDNST

Bad Characters: EFHIJKLUVY

Otherwise, no doubt, these fonts are beautiful, and the twilight sepia is a welcome addition, since I use F.lux generally on all my systems. Great release Marco!

Congrats kofman!
teejae··on Sublime Text 2 Build 2181
Sublime blows TextMate out of the water. Hands down.
teejae··on You're solving the wrong problem
Yes, it was originally in PHP, but not for very long.
teejae··on A Case Against Using CoffeeScript
For classes, I'm still unclear as to why you might even use the thin arrow, lest you're providing a mixin. Thoughts?
teejae··on Tesla’s Musk Says Model S Sold Out; Should Turn Profit in 2013
Yes, the Roadster is amazing. However, there's about 20 left in the US to sell. I drove one, but cannot buy one. Completely agree that it is thrilling, like riding a roller coaster, with you in control.

Disclaimer: After driving it, I did buy some TSLA stock.

teejae··on Hacker News Tokyo Japan Meetup #8 – Friday 21st of October
English is the norm.
teejae··on What it costs to live in Japan
Well, it doesn't work that well for everyone. Since health insurance cost depends on income, I previously had to pay more than $700/month for health insurance for myself. I haven't even dared to look at insurance costs more recently.
teejae··on Google Joins Apple in Push for Tax Holiday
You kind of pay the maximum of the US and domestic tax rates, after some possible deduction, though not exactly the case given how it gets calculated. But yes, all income worldwide is taxed for US citizens. If you're curious, see:

Security and usability are 2 orthogonal design choices.
teejae··on Coming soon: make your phone your wallet
Yes, it's standard in most phones sold in Japan. Charged to your monthly phone bill.
teejae··on 7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Japan
In Tokyo, it was more like a 3.x, about a minute's worth of low-rumbling.
teejae··on Google Rolls Out Two-Factor Authentication For Everyone.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HOTP and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_One-time_Password_Al...

You can download the Google Authenticator app.

These algorithms are known. You can implement it yourself if you wanted to.

teejae··on New Google Go Release
Yes, that's right, and only once. It's like a switch statement, only using inputs instead of fixed cases.

It does make sense to have the blocking version, if there's nothing else to do.

teejae··on [dead]
If you really want it to have no explanation normally, because the user has been there before, just set a cookie saying that it's been seen before/closed. If a user is coming back often, then they will close it once, and be done.
teejae··on One Handed Clock using canvas and js
I like the fact that I can read the clock without looking in 2 places, just read down a line. Well done.
teejae··on Staging Servers, Source Control & Deploy Workflows, And Other Stuff
Any form of real source control is a better setup than just using Dropbox. I happen to do Git+Dropbox right now, but anything will do.

Source control just provides lots of benefits for logging and rolling back and around. Git and Mercurial, as distributed version control systems, just happen to be easiest since you don't need to really setup a repository, and just have all the data on local disk. It really is practically free.

Go to your source directory now:

1. git init # makes the directory a git repository

2. git add . # adds everything in that directory

3. git commit # commits it
