tacticus··on IPv6 non-alternatives: DJB's article, 13 years later
Except it went from 6% to 10% in a year.
tacticus··on I analyzed 250 SaaS pricing pages
or the customers that just skip them to a supplier with less contempt for their users

they also decide to disable normal features because fuck you.

android auto does not work on the z3 compacts at all because of their decision to remove the USB charge mode from the phones.

tacticus··on Guide to the Largest Ocean Carriers in the World
Another interesting look would be the countries where these fleets are registered.
tacticus··on Another Dell root certificate discovered
The problem is if you only do a software boycott they can just reinstall their crap

tacticus··on Backblaze Storage Pod 5.0
Supermicro also sells a sata plug mounted storage device it would have enough for a kernel to be loaded.

though i think a PXE or similar boot option would be a smarter move. just enough to bootstrap something to run in ram. (alternatively a minimal kernel and dedicate a section of the disks in the chassis to holding the running software (500MB x 45 with decent levels of erasure coding is a fairly minimal slice.) the kernel could then pull down the code after first boot (or updates)

tacticus··on Atlassian files for IPO
Begging a vulture capitalist who is owned by the far right of his party for help seems a bit silly.
tacticus··on Ad Blockers Are Also Changing the Game for SaaS and Web Developers
Unfortunately the well behaved sites are one in a thousand. to cater for those you need to expose yourself to a wide range of threats and spies. not to mention making your eyeballs bleed and your sites perform so poorly it isn't funny.
tacticus··on Microsoft’s Very Good Day
the problem with powershell is that it is incredibly stupid if you're not on a full windows stack (desktops, servers and near enough to everything inbetween) and running the most recent version of windows (ever tried getting winrm installed and reliably working on a 2008 box?)

perhaps if they were not too opposed early on to horrible open source things and just one of the languages that already fit fairly well in that area (python for example) they wouldn't have had to go out of their way to make pretty shitty hacks (i really wonder if anyone in the powershell\winrm team did any testing or development with the machines more than 10 metres away)

tacticus··on Microsoft’s Very Good Day
Why are you comparing powershell to bash. the more accurate comparison is python.
tacticus··on Introducing AWS WAF
How about users that get better performance over ipv6. like many many mobile users out there.

You can have your tool accessible by some piece of shit CGN and web proxy. or direct over ipv6

tacticus··on Introducing AWS WAF
they did specify a rate. so it could just be a really slow connection for some mail servers.
tacticus··on New Windows 10 Devices From Microsoft
the out of the box linux compatibility is a game of chance on those. you have half the models with shitty broadcom cards. a third with the only atheros cards they can find without any drivers and the remaining with an intel card for this month and realtek after that.

it's just a pain in the arse to find one that you can reliably recommend. and 1920x1080 is still a shit resolution.

tacticus··on To hack an Android phone, just type in a really long password
the problem is not just the brands. the telcos block updates for phones for stupid stupid reasons.
tacticus··on The Plane Giving the F-35 a Run for Its Money
that germany had the best tanks is a bit inaccurate. The t-34 was better than almost everything else out there when it came out. easily outclassing common german tanks. the improved models could compete with the tiger and panthers (though there were few of these)

though the big issues with the tiger and panther was the horrible maintenance issues.

tacticus··on Self-driving cars can be disabled with a laser pointer and a Raspberry Pi
an escalade is pretty shit as far as safety goes. it's an active danger to other road users and a magnet for rollovers.
tacticus··on World Airports Voronoi
Well they certainly have iata codes and serve larger aircraft than places like albany wa.

Wilkins supports normal commercial aircraft like the a319

tacticus··on Google Will Soon Start Punishing Mobile Sites that Use Annoying App Install Ads
> feeling more secure purchasing through an app

Considering the security of most of the "apps" out there this is really depressing.

tacticus··on How the Ballpoint Pen Killed Cursive
I'll second this recommendation. the metropolitans are great pens.
tacticus··on WordSafety – Check a name for unwanted meanings in foreign languages
well your jokes certainly fit.
tacticus··on Bike Commuting to Work in Los Angeles
Not as significant as the doctor. (i was in perth for LCA last year. that change was amazing.)

Over in melbourne.

tacticus··on Bike Commuting to Work in Los Angeles
I live in an area with prevailing winds from the northeast in the morning and southwestish in the evening. Headwinds both ways are my life :(
tacticus··on Even when told not to, Windows 10 doesn't stop talking to Microsoft
mobile providers in australia bill in 1MB minimum sessions (with quite short session times) that would add up pretty quickly with these wonderful backend connections.
tacticus··on Windows 10 phones home when you search your start menu, even with Bing disabled
The australian market where most providers bill at least a MB for every connection session (1B over some arbitrary time and you're down one of your MB)
tacticus··on Bringing Intel Xeon to notebook PCs
There really is no good reason intel keep removing this from the consumer cpus.

And it is entirely the case.

tacticus··on Is Advertising Morally Justifiable? The Importance of Protecting Our Attention
Wrong abc buddy. that ABC is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation not the American one. a government funded organisation that doesn't do much advertising.
tacticus··on Why do some countries drive on the left and others on the right?
Hey just wondering (completely off topic) How much money do you need to have for this sort of travel.
tacticus··on The Fake Bomb Detectors in Iraq
The reason they like the dowsing rod (because that's basically what it is) is that they just like being able to justify any action they take.
