symlinkk··on Developer with ADHD? You’re not alone
Everyone on here says they have ADHD so they can get access to Adderall which is sort of a cheat code for programming. Some people do this genuinely believing they’re suffering from some disorder, others do it knowing they would be fine without it but better with it.
symlinkk··on The AI-powered Seinfeld spoof returns to Twitch with new guardrails in place
And why would this particular group of people spook their advertisers?
symlinkk··on Amazon will require employees return to the office 3 days a week
“Easier” aka I used my physical presence to intimidate and/or pressure people into responding to me
symlinkk··on Google testing ChatGPT-like chatbot 'Apprentice Bard' with employees
I think as programmers we may want to rethink the amount of knowledge we share online. That knowledge is how we make money, and people are mining it to build AIs that can replace us.
symlinkk··on I bought a CO2 monitor and it broke me
AFAIK with gas furnaces the air touching the flame never touches the air that goes into the house, they run them past each other on top of a thin filter to exchange heat. So the CO2 produced from the flame should not affect CO2 in the house, provided the system is not malfunctioning.
symlinkk··on How to Beat Stress and Anxiety
Why all of this hippie garbage that doesn’t work? Take Propanalol or if that doesn’t work step up to Xanax.
symlinkk··on A Midcentury Bender: Revisiting Mad Men
That mid century modern style is so popular with furniture right now. Look at trendy places like West Elm, nearly all their stuff looks like it came out of a set of Mad Men. I’m not complaining, I love that style.
symlinkk··on Philips Plans 6000 Job Cuts; Sees Growth in FY25, Beyond
Maybe Hue lights? They’re pretty much the best of the best for smart lights. Although Matter may shake things up.
symlinkk··on Show HN: DeepReview (ChatGPT powered CV/cover letter/perf review writer)
It pads OPs resume
symlinkk··on AirGradient Open Source Air Quality Monitor for CO2 and PM2.5 Measurements
This is the right pick, because it has an NDIR sensor.
symlinkk··on Ask HN: What are we even chasing?
I would definitely encourage others to try doctors and see if it helps. I’m just saying for me it hasn’t (so far).
symlinkk··on Ask HN: What are we even chasing?
Doctors don’t have answers. They’ll give you SSRIs which will numb your emotions and ruin your drive, or they’ll refer you to a therapist who will take your money in exchange for listening to you vent once a week.
symlinkk··on Job Hunting in 2022
“Lazy” is the wrong word. People work for 8 hours a day and then are expected to cook, clean, exercise, and maintain some sort of social life. Adding in Leetcode on top of that is going to cause something to give. There’s only so many hours in the day.

Lmao how is this nuance related to the point he made at all?
symlinkk··on Antidepressants are over-prescribed, but genuinely help some patients
Lol, it seems like everyone on this website has “ADHD” and “needs” a daily supply of amphetamine just to function.

I think the reality is that everyone benefits from amphetamines whether they have ADHD or not, so working backwards, if you feel better on Adderall, that doesn’t mean you have ADHD.

Rebellion ain’t gonna pay the bills.
symlinkk··on Ask HN: Sites with the quality of Hacker News, but for more general topics?
The comments here are just as mediocre and repetitive as Reddit, just written in a way to sound more sophisticated
symlinkk··on A plea for culinary modernism (2001) [pdf]
This is why Chipotle and Chick fil A are dominating. People go there because it’s the only fast food that’s perceived to be relatively healthy.
symlinkk··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
Sounds pretty unhealthy
symlinkk··on Salesforce will lay off 10% of staff as part of restructuring
If you do that companies will be more reluctant to hire, since they’ll have to factor in the risk of paying a hefty severance.
symlinkk··on Dell’s new UltraSharp monitor is a 6K powerhouse for pros
32” is just too big. 27” 5K is the sweet spot. As usual Apple is the only company to execute on this successfully.
symlinkk··on Dell’s new UltraSharp monitor is a 6K powerhouse for pros
I don’t think they’re making $3600 off of showing me ads
symlinkk··on Laid off tech workers quickly find new jobs
Only in tech would someone casually take a 50% pay cut without it absolutely destroying their life.

symlinkk··on Ask HN: What is your favorite front end state management solution?
Then you are prop drilling. Most projects I work on have hundreds of components and that would get old fast.
symlinkk··on Ask HN: What is your favorite front end state management solution?
So now you’re re-implementing React.
symlinkk··on Ask HN: What is your favorite front end state management solution?
Right, but then you have a ton of contexts littered everywhere. Seems like that would be a lot of clutter.
