sufiyan··on How to Find a Million-Dollar, One-Person Business Idea
And I'm one among the suckers who paid ~300 USD. I'm just stupid.
sufiyan··on Ask HN: What did you learn the hard way?
Could you expound on (1). I have been toyed around by my former Co founder who sweet talked me into believing him. I still think I suck at understanding human behaviour and nature. Are there any telling signs that help you?
sufiyan··on Thirsty Cities Drill for Water
You just don't know about sustainable agriculture and drip irrigation. So, your comment isn't well informed. We won't have a good shortage. The smart farmers will figure a way out.
sufiyan··on There's No Such Thing as a General-purpose Processor (2014)
The very talk of space division multiplexing rather than time division multiplexing just sent a shiver down my spine.

Caches are going to get super thrashed in those situations and just cleaning and reloading for the next application will destroy performance.

sufiyan··on Ask HN: How did you get started as a freelancer?
Are you looking for hardware engineers?
sufiyan··on Systems Neuroscience Is About to Get Bonkers
Major takeaway : We are too bored to bother with really understanding stuff from first principles, let the computer do my work and I'll write a paper that I made the computer do my work.
sufiyan··on [dead]
Title misleading
sufiyan··on Why Germany Educates International Students for Free
Having seen many of my more affluent friends going abroad for Uni and just spending their time and parents money on booze and girls, there is a huge element of truth in what OP says. It is a subsidy for the rich and affluent.
sufiyan··on Inge Sargent: From Burmese princess to human rights activist
I am not blaming anyone, Before people think Burma is a mountainous, rosy and cheery place you must remember the blood they spill everyday.
sufiyan··on Inge Sargent: From Burmese princess to human rights activist
This is from a few weeks back - http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/the-murder-of-an-hon...

I accept it is not black and white and it is all shades of grey, however as you point out these are people who have been around from before the concept of citizenship became rigidly enforced. Now, to them this world however horrible it is to them is their reality and it is where they were born and raised and call their home - it is not like how you portray the US and Mexico but more nuanced. Lets say any immigrant had a kid in the US, that kid doesn't know of any reality except the one he/she was born into, so is your hypothesis that everyone in the US has lived on it for the last 500 years? Most if not all made their way in through porous borders. So, by your logic, everyone should have lived in their own place - which by your logical conclusion means US is an illegal state because it is not ruled by the Native Americans who are technically the people who lived there from long back.

Welcome to Burma - the land of the Rohingya genocide.
sufiyan··on AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Benchmarked – Giving Intel’s $1000 Chips A Run For It
One must bear in mind that wccftech has always been one to leak stuff. Take what you might want to from that.

More importantly though, Intel definitely needs competition. This is really good news and I hope it plays out well.

sufiyan··on India raises withdrawal limit as rupee anger mounts
Then the question arises why write it like that twice. Why is not written in Hindi even once?
sufiyan··on India raises withdrawal limit as rupee anger mounts
Yes. So, can I read Urdu and the hey looks like a bey. ب has the dot below it which you can clearly see in all images. ح doesn't have any dots beneath it.
sufiyan··on India raises withdrawal limit as rupee anger mounts
The going rate for Rs.500 in Bangalore which is a fairly developed part of India is Rs. 180. So, your 60% number is not fully wrong.
sufiyan··on India raises withdrawal limit as rupee anger mounts
Actually the previous time that this was shared on HN, the article clearly pointed out that less than 25% of the accounts are actually active.
sufiyan··on India raises withdrawal limit as rupee anger mounts
Nope. This decision seems to have happened at the whim of 3 people - the PM, the finance minister, the RBI governor. Clearly they didn't even proof read the notes. The back side of the 2k rupee notes is a mess. They screwed up the spelling of 2 in Hindi and 1000 in Urdu making it Bazaar from Hazaar
sufiyan··on Sergey Brin Resume (1996)
But then again the C and D grade students are backed by wealthy parents who can afford them slacking off. This is not to undermine any of them but, when you have a fairly soft bed to fall on when things take a wrong turn, you are more willing to take risks.

Most A grade students don't usually have the same wealthy parents to turn to for their whims and they have to struggle.

sufiyan··on Apple applies to patent a paper bag with at least 60% post-consumer content
Wait but why? Are they using this for their next generation iPhone packing (wastage as it is otherwise called)
sufiyan··on An evaluation of throughput computing on CPU and GPU (2010) [pdf]
And it is precisely because of this that the paper has to go through peer review and also the authors specifically state that the optimisations that they do make the code run at least as fast if not faster than the state of the art.
sufiyan··on How I Created a $350M Software Company Knowing Nothing About Software
Did he finally become a doctor?
sufiyan··on DRAM chip failures reveal surprising hardware vulnerabilities
I meant reduce the refresh rate. My bad. Should have proof read what I typed. Essentially, what I meant was that many dram chips needn't be refreshed as often as they are now.
sufiyan··on IMP: Indirect Memory Prefetcher [pdf]
Looks a little like AVD Address Value Delta that Onur Mutlu proposed.
sufiyan··on Samsung Starts Mass Producing Industry’s First 128-Gigabyte DDR4 RAM Modules
Why is this even anything big? I mean, at almost ~2 GB/s, isn't this like snails pace for enterprise systems.
sufiyan··on Today's world is amd64, armv7, and soon aarch64. Everything else is dead
Yeah. But the author seems to have gotten some good money from amd you write about them rather than go out and say that, amd is also dying much like the others.

I highly doubt if arm will ever become a serious contender in the desktop computing market, let alone the hpc market which is even more difficult with what Intel can guarantee.

sufiyan··on DRAM chip failures reveal surprising hardware vulnerabilities
True for most of the world of consumer electronics. 10 cent saving on a TV - the person who proposes the technique stands to make a quarters salary as a bonus.
sufiyan··on DRAM chip failures reveal surprising hardware vulnerabilities
If so, why dont they increase refresh rates given that most of the memory (>95%) can do refreshes at numbers of over 3x existing refresh rates. This could potentially increase the energy savings and also potentially make the system faster because of lesser waiting time during Refresh and Row Activation.
