spektom··on Yale researchers reconstruct facial images locked in a viewer’s mind
I wonder whether this will work with different person, not the one who participated in the machine learning process. Someone, who has different brain activities when the same faces from the training set are shown. Is that possible that our brains analyze the seen differently?
spektom··on Multitail
The best feature of MultiTail is that allows following original file names by specifying '-f' flag. Really useful for switching automatically to the needed file after log rotation.
spektom··on Squirt.io – Readability Meets Spritz Speed Reading
Why not just replace "http://" with "//" in your Bookmarklet code?
spektom··on Show HN: Create a short link to any quote on the Internet
Due to "numerous" requests I decided to revive my weekend project. This free service allows you creating a short link to any citation on a Website. There are limitations yet, like Websites that require log-in, pagination, but in most cases this should become a handy tool for social active people on the Internet :-)
spektom··on Butterfly: Your everyday terminal in your web browser
How switching between browser tabs is different from switching between applications?
spektom··on Google Loses Appeal, Forced to Publish €150,000 Fine on Google.fr
Where will the money go if Google pays the fine? Will I (as Google user) gain some benefits from this case?
spektom··on Show HN: We built an easy way to create online guides and tutorials
Great idea! It would be nice if one was able to start creating guides without registering with the service.
spektom··on Octogit
I wonder why wouldn't Hub use Ruby Jem for GitHub API? https://github.com/peter-murach/github
spektom··on Atomico invests €350,000 in simple file-sharing startup Ge.tt
It's interesting what business model will allow them to cover costs of providing 2GB for free? (without mentioning signup-free 250Mb)
spektom··on Suicide
In my childhood I was told a "tale of two frogs" http://bquot.com/8jl This is really helpful for understanding why you should never give up!
spektom··on Parrondo's paradox
Should one learn from this paradox that switching between games in casino will lead to win?
spektom··on Spark
Exactly. Kinda measure of how strong is sysadmin.
spektom··on Spark
This reminds me of another useful utility from the childhood:

alias updick='/usr/bin/uptime | perl -ne "/(\d+) d/;print 8,q(=)x\$1,\"D\n\""'

spektom··on Web Technologies Need an Owner
The future is already here - Java applets.
spektom··on John Carmack coded Quake on a 28-inch 16:9 1080p monitor in 1995
Here's the answer to the question "what monitor does he use now?":

spektom··on A quick and simple image placeholder service
I wonder in what situation such a service can be used? Thanks.
spektom··on Ask HN: Please review my weekend project
I'm afraid to ask what version of IE you use, since I succeed to drag the bookmarklet in IE9 :) I've found the following workaround for IE users:

1. Right-click on the link

2. Select "Add to Favorites"

3. Click "Yes" on security warning

4. Select "Favorites Bar" from the "create in" dropdown

5. Click "Add" button

spektom··on Ask HN: Please review my weekend project
Fixed for FF. Thanks for feedback!

Are you using Opera? In this case, try to right-click on it, and select "Add Bookmark"
spektom··on Eclipse Orion
You can setup your own Orion server, if privacy is your concern: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Orion/How_Tos/Install_Orion_on_Local...
spektom··on Why do Russians smile so little (and Americans so much?)
There's a proverb in Russian: "laugh without a reason is a sign of foolishness". I don't know where this saying came from, but it's broadly accepted to tell it to anyone who smiles. I was always told this in school, since I smiled a lot. And I'm happy it hasn't had any affect on me :-)
spektom··on When Should I Visit? - A 24 hour hack I made, what do you think?
Thank you for the 'how this works' section, which is 'must have' for projects posted here!
spektom··on Treesaver.js - JavaScript library for creating magazine style layouts
Doesn't look good in Opera:

spektom··on A Beautiful Race Condition
Reading javadoc helps as well sometimes. The HashMap's doc says "Note that this implementation is not synchronized", and that's enough for me for not using this class as global unsynchronized cache.
spektom··on John's Phone: a minimalist cell phone
> John’s Phone is 10.5 centimetres in height, 6 centimetres in length and 1.5 centimetres in width (4.1”/2.4”/0.6”). Weight: 95 grams.

If it wasn't too big and heavy, I'd order it right now!

spektom··on My winter break project — Silk
This is so amazing! Now I realize the power of html5!
spektom··on Using the Google Cr-48 for Coding
How do you verify that your code behaves correctly in different browsers when developing in JavaScript on Chrome OS?
spektom··on Google's Current Bid for Groupon: $5 Billion.
"We buy companies to get excellent people" @ Mark Zuckerberg

May be the same holds true for Google & Groupon?

spektom··on Why I will not analyze the new WikiLeaks data
Whatever happened, happened. I'd not appeal to journalists' conscience, but rather try to protect sensitive documents better in the future. I have not doubts that revealed information will harm in some way to "good guys" if they let it fall into "bad guys'" hands.
spektom··on Teaching My Daughter To Code
Brad Fitzpatrick says in "Coders at Work" that his father taught him to program when he was 5 years old.
