source99··on A Call for a Low-Carb Diet
Carbs(aka glucose) is a poisonous substance and as soon as your body detects the glucose it releases insulin. The Insulin lowers blood glucose levels by forcing the glucose to move into your fat cells as fat(through a long chain reaction).

So carbs essentially become fat.

If you don't eat carbs your body doesn't release insulin so you can't store anything as fat. In fact once you truly go very low carb your body releases whatever hormone is the opposite of Insulin which allows fat to be released from your fat cells and used as energy.

The low carb diet makes sense to me because of the basic biology that I know. (I am not an expert and these are just my thoughts).

In-n-Out : Double Meat Animal and Protein style...

Protein means they wrap it in lettuce instead of a bun.

You can also go the double double but I'm not a big fan of the cheese...

Have you guys seen the SUPER SUPER LARGE sealed ecosystem. It's called earth. It's amazing how long it has lasted without any significant mass coming in or going out.
source99··on Betty – English-like interface for the command line
From what I gather the developer is allowing users to use natural language so they won't have to remember arcane commands.

I have looked up how to do _____ multiple times because I don't remember the command or syntax. Creating an alias is nice but then I still have to remember my own alias or look it up.

This tool makes it so you don't have to remember anything. Assuming it works well it will yield a great user-experience.

source99··on Show HN: Stash, an evernote for command line
This seems pretty cool. Not sure if I will remember to use it but might work better than a txt file I keep handy. Though for my most common annoyingly long commands I normally create an alias.

This is great. Why is there any limit to the amount of time I have to keep the "bitcoin/dollars" on the barcode? I'd rather load it up and use it when convinient.

source99··on Why “Simple” Websites Are Scientifically Superior
The article is discussing "simplicity" as one aspect of design. While I agree different designs can really only be viewed subjectively there are some aspects of simplicity that can be judged objectively.
source99··on Why “Simple” Websites Are Scientifically Superior
Is this your summary of the article?
source99··on Why “Simple” Websites Are Scientifically Superior
The article states that once a site layout follows the archetype for that type of site then the brain is "happier". I would say that at this point Facebook is so ingrained in many(not all) users that its design follows a known archetype(The FB design).

source99··on Scoble says Google Glass is doomed
What is the purpose/point of google glass?

From 97% of news articles / reviews google glass is a voice activated camera. While this is mildly interesting it's the only use anyone has for the device. Who cares about this feature? It's not especially new, exciting or a good user experience.

If google could distill google glass into a single statement like "1000 songs in your pocket" we might understand it.

What is the equivalent statement for google glass?

source99··on Ask HN: What would you fix in Gmail UX/UI?
It seems to me that google regularly adds more clicks to accomplish tasks all the time.

i.e. Editing a subject

Opening calendar or any other app.

source99··on Ask HN: What would you fix in Gmail UX/UI?
One UX strategy to improve moving attachments without downloading is to add a button in the bottom of the compose/reply window that responds with a list of recently viewed/downloaded attachments. The user could then click on any of them and they would be attached to the email without downloading and uploading.
source99··on Ask HN: Would you pay for this service?
WHY WHY WHY?

What's the point of this service?

What are you really selling? I see that it is a report but are you trying to help startups? In what way specifically?

WHY are you creating this service? If its simply because you think its a good idea or you will be good at it, it will be very difficult to sell it without a better reason.
