someSven··on Bitcoin Is Having a Civil War as It Enters a Critical Month
I was a bit surprised by the crash, I would have sold and buyed back cheeper. But I thought the information was already in the price. I could imagine someone tried to make it crash hard by selling a lot and creating a panic, and failed.
someSven··on Ask HN: How do you manage your daily non-work related tasks?
taskwarrior on Linux shell, but also for work. I'm kind of meditating every day over it for a while, doing some adjustments, until I get myself to do something.
someSven··on U.S. Malaria Donations Saved Almost 2M African Children
Where did you get the idea about what I know and what I don't know about Africa? Is Malaria really mainly a problem for the city dwellers with high living standards? Brasil is destroying their rain forrest. And one reason why they can is because they don't have the same problem with Malaria.
someSven··on U.S. Malaria Donations Saved Almost 2M African Children
This will kill the rainforrest in Africa. Because the survivors will use it for bushmeat, wood, jobs, fields for cows, ...
someSven··on Welcoming Tech Talent from Around the World to France
Good example: There is no homeschooling allowed in Germany. And private schools and universities are rare. The public education system is full of international socialist propaganda.
someSven··on Welcoming Tech Talent from Around the World to France
What's it with the bank accounts? You can transfer money within the EU without any problems. I pay my rent in Spain from a German bank account. Though, getting wired internet is another thing, these companies seem to ignore European law.
someSven··on Artistically shaped magnets may make stellarators easier to manage than ITER
Yeah, I thought there was also one in English. I may confused it with one of those: http://omegataupodcast.net/tag/fusion/
someSven··on 14 People Make 500K Tons of Steel a Year in Austria
Civilized societys resepect property. They are entitled to it, because it's theirs.

Besides, who would invest in a country where people have such a mindset? And what is with companies owned by local and international shareholders?

someSven··on 14 People Make 500K Tons of Steel a Year in Austria
Funny. But watchdog or security robots already exist.
someSven··on The Average Student Does Not Exist
WT... wow. You really have CS in 99% of high schools?
someSven··on Show HN: Nice-looking Python bindings to V8
fremdschämen is the verb
someSven··on Opus 1.2 Released
I really hope every Linux distro and all these other OSs will support it from now on, right from the start. Including recognicing .opus files. It's the perfect format for podcasts, because it's great with voices even if the bitrate is low.
someSven··on Infosys accused of racism
The term 'racism' should be socially banned, because of it's misuse and because it can mean so many things. Basicly racism only exists as an combat term.
someSven··on Why Python Is Not My Favorite Language (2016)
Isn't this covered by IDEs, which warn you when switching the type?
someSven··on Ether Is the Digital Currency of the Moment
Simple question every investor should ask himself: How many Bitcoin tokens exist and how many of Etherum?
someSven··on The blockchain paradox: Why DLTs may do little to transform the economy
Like it or not: Gold is money. And Bitcoin even works better as money. And of course it is used at some point. It just doesn't need to be invested into the economy to increase value. So theris an alternative to betting in the pyramid of debt.
someSven··on The blockchain paradox: Why DLTs may do little to transform the economy
> But without the need for pseudo-anonymity why would anyone ever use it? Why would your grocery store use bitcoin over dollars?

Because the want the money from people which have bitcoins? Because creditcard fees are to high? (just forget about the BTC fees or the nearly fictional double spending problem) Another reason could be that the owner has Bitcoins and wants to support them. There might be more reasons.

someSven··on Flippening Watch (Ethereum has almost overtaken Bitcoin in every metric)
The whole approach is biased in favor of etherum from the start, since bitcoin is not a smart contract system.
someSven··on Why Ethereum is outpacing Bitcoin
> What is the intrinsic value of ETH or Bitcoin? It literally has nothing to back it.

The brand and the places where you can pay or donate with it, or exchange it. The fact that it can't be seized by the authorities, the limit on inflation wired into the software and system. And thats most likely not all of it.

someSven··on Why Ethereum is outpacing Bitcoin
> What does he or most people use bitcoin for?

Bitcoin was ment to be money which is good in the store of value part. Etherum has a higher inflation for all I know, and it is not primarily meant to be money.

someSven··on Canada's Tech Firms Capitalize On Immigration Anxiety
If the Canadian system works like the German one than you can come back to the public system even when you are already ill. At least if you've been insured before for a while and you are not to old. If you are broke then it works even then. Sorry, if that might drive some people nuts now.
someSven··on Tagsistant: semantic filesystem for Linux
I often wanted a tag system, but this is not what I was picturing, I think. I'll rather like to have a database and an entry in the context menue to tag files without moving them. It should also be able to identify the file if is being moved or renamed.
someSven··on Stop Pretending You’re Not Rich
Socialism is about distribution of wealth. This is mainly about distribution of risk. It is also a more fundamental thing than creating a more equal society. It is also simply a fact that many people outside US don't call their country socialist just because they have a public healthcare system. So this might cause confusion.
someSven··on Stop Pretending You’re Not Rich
Not everyone equals public healthcare with socialism.
someSven··on What role did autism play in human evolution?
The movie about her is also worth watching, IMHO. With Claire Danes.
someSven··on Intel fires warning shots at Microsoft, says x86 emulation is a patent minefield
May someone please elaborate on the difference between what MS does and emulators on Linux like Quemu and ExaGear?
someSven··on Are Google, Amazon and others getting too big?
If some gov dosn't like the power of those companies then the should feel free to support free software. The same goes for competitors and consumers. Regulation only in rare cases please.
someSven··on Plan9-9k: 64-bit Plan 9
Short question: What were the downsides to use Plan9 or Inferno as the fundament of a distro insted of Linux? Of course with Linux programms where it would be necessary.
someSven··on Stripe and Coinbase apparently can't find my Bitcoin
I'm paying cents or even fractions of cents for every transaction. I think confirmations are overated anyway, since you could check e.g. on blockchain.info if double spending happend.
someSven··on [dead]
They only need to do a part of the work. The other part is the repo maintainors job. These many distros also boil down to a few fundamental distros.
