sleepdreamy··on Nonprofit markups.org is exposing the most egregious new car prices
This is literally the process of purchasing a vehicle in 2022. I needed a car (My old one had broken down after 9 years of service)

Advertised price was 24,500. I walked out totaling 30,000 after all the bullshit and that was with a 4000 downpayment. I left an honest review on Google Reviews about how misleading and unhappy I was with that dealer in particulars process but I loved the car so I just sucked it up.

When we bought my wifes car I had a much better experience. Some dealerships are just sleazy, and if you need the car you need the car.

sleepdreamy··on The hero's journey of getting laid off
Actually - over half the country is living pay-check to paycheck. We are lucky to do what we do, don't forget that.

I worked a ton of awful jobs before breaking into the industry. A lot of people don't know what it's like to be stepped on in STEM fields but its a constant thing for lower echelons of our society. Cold World

sleepdreamy··on The global housing market is broken, and it’s dividing entire countries
This is the rule of the game for anything involving Capitol. If you didn't get there first/pioneer/inherit wealth then you are usually fucked in comparison to well-off parts of the population.
sleepdreamy··on The global housing market is broken, and it’s dividing entire countries
We've actually never left the Feudalism stage IMO. Just with iPhones & Netflix sprinkled in for some light distraction
sleepdreamy··on The global housing market is broken, and it’s dividing entire countries
Have you studied Economics? Just curious - There are thousands of nuances and reasons this will never work. Life is not so Black & White
sleepdreamy··on The global housing market is broken, and it’s dividing entire countries
Majority of regular/middle-class folks have their equity tied to their home. I agree (I am one of them)
sleepdreamy··on Glassdoor not so anonymous
Don't trust anything. I left a truthful, scathing review of where I purchased my vehicle from. I was very unhappy with the experience after making a purchase at a different dealership (Total different experience with my wife).

The review was gone within 24 hours from Google Reviews. It's a racket and completely paid for. I filter by 1 stars at this point otherwise I'm unsure if I'm reading a purchased review.

sleepdreamy··on Microsoft beat Apple to buy PowerPoint for $14M (2016)
I am! About a year in now.
sleepdreamy··on Microsoft beat Apple to buy PowerPoint for $14M (2016)
Microsoft has a straight up monopoly on Corporate Domains/Operating Systems. Interesting to me that people complain about Amazon/AWS but noone mentions Microsoft being a huge behemoth. Domains..365 Suite..AD etc;

sleepdreamy··on Tell HN: I DDoSed myself using CloudFront and Lambda Edge and got a $4.5k bill
This is the exact reason I fear AWS. How should I go about learning it when mistakes like this can basically ruin me for the next few months? Not sure if there are safe resources or Free Sandboxes somewhere
sleepdreamy··on Wearing flashy/status clothes makes people less likely to cooperate with you
Uniqlo's XXL is not true XXL so I can't wear any of their clothing :(
sleepdreamy··on As weed gets more potent, teens are getting sick
An OZ every 3 days is pretty insane I'm gonna be honest. You must've been rolling everything to go through that. Using pieces helps a lot. Hope you're doing well
sleepdreamy··on As weed gets more potent, teens are getting sick
This is simply false. I'm not going to discuss pricing here but, with Dabs and several forms of in-take you do not need to spend 100/day to be stoned all day. I live in a recreational state(Lived here for 13 years while it could ruin your life).

In the past this might hold true but no longer.

Sure - I apologize and do enjoy this forum very much. Apologies again
sleepdreamy··on Sex is going out of fashion?
I'm not sure I am understanding. I am not having kids with my fiancée because the world currently feels like a shithole that I myself would not want to be born into.

We're still at the feudalism stage sprinkled with iPhones/Technology.

I am just not understanding how that choice means I am dooming myself with less.. intimacy? I don't follow. Explain please - (Genuinely curious not trying to argue)

sleepdreamy··on The Value of an Undergraduate Degree
As a self taught musician this is totally bullshit TO AN EXTENT. I fucking shred and know zero music theory. All self taught and I can tune by ear as well.

When you start to play with a higher caliber of musicians, it becomes an expected threshold. I think its a bad analogy but it kind of is true the better you get. Still bad analogy

sleepdreamy··on Sex is going out of fashion?
Apologies - you're absolutely correct. I think it was standard practice prior to everything going down-hill. The only reason I even have this ability is through my career. I think most people are not so fortunate and are fed up so the cycle of not trying starts to kick in.
sleepdreamy··on Sex is going out of fashion?
Normal off what metric? Your metric?

I am 29 and was finally able to purchase my first home. I am one of if not the only person in my large friend group to purchase a home without assistance from parents

If you think people in their 20s are buying homes and starting families en-masse well I've got bad news for you

sleepdreamy··on Amazon builds property empire, quietly buying land across the US
RENTAL RACK SERVICES are not purely a cloud based service in the way AWS provides. That article is not pertinent with the presentation of their 'facts'. That is not purely cloud market share.

From another User on this thread: "If you look at just the cloud the way AWS does it - running code through their service in various datacenters as a service, it's above 50%."

That user is correct and so is my 'Anecdotal' experience. I'll enjoy my insanity. Thanks!

sleepdreamy··on Amazon builds property empire, quietly buying land across the US
Source: I work in Critical Incident Response/IT Remediation

AWS is absolutely a monopoly just like Microsoft has a monopoly on Corporate/Enterprise OS's tied to Domains. From a solely cloud based provider - not the Equipment renters or Volume based licensing.

AWS is a monster - Their market share is well over 33% regardless of how many articles you google to link me. I am balls deep buddy. It is well over 33% (At least in the US)

sleepdreamy··on Amazon builds property empire, quietly buying land across the US
Correct. AWS is god-tier and many non-technical users have any clue how Amazon actually works. They don't make money off your stupid ass delivers Nancy. Amazon has a monopoly with AWS and that is what people should really fear. Not Amazon, but the power of AWS
sleepdreamy··on You have only so much time – are you using it right?
It doesn't matter. Be happy. In 200 years no-one will know you existed
sleepdreamy··on Ask HN: How to talk with logical flow and coherence at interviews?
This is me. I work in IT(Not Coding) but we still get fairly technical questions etc all day. I have no issue going into a tirade about issues I faced recently at work, the way PMs work with the team bla bla bla. I am a naturally good conversationalist. My fiancee on the other hand is the polar opposite to me and has to prepare when speaking in front of people. She is very shy. Some people are lucky, many are not. It's totally normal to prepare for that sort of thing from what I've read. I'm just lucky

sleepdreamy··on Ask HN: Is the stock market's growth largely anything more than inflation?
So how should I go about investing/creating a portfolio? I'm 29 and finally making decent money. Not sure how to move forward
sleepdreamy··on Ask HN: Have you experienced decline in problem-solving skills? How to improve?
'Make it' is subjective though. I work in IT, own a modest home and I would say I've made it although many commenters on this forum would say I am broke by their standards. Everything is relative - I hope you are able to find joy, peace and rest in your well-deserved accomplishments
sleepdreamy··on One-Third of Americans Making $250k Live Paycheck-to-Paycheck
I drive a 2019 CRV, 369 a month. It's really do-able if you have good credit and a downpayment. There is no need to spend 500+ on a vehicle a month. I could spend 1000/m on a car but that would be stupid for my salary range.
sleepdreamy··on Ask HN: Have you experienced decline in problem-solving skills? How to improve?
Too late for what? The fact you own land should be cherished in itself. A lot of people suffer or go through life with much less than you probably have now. You worked hard, don't diminish your accomplishments.
