simse··on Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year
This is great to hear. Apple should be selling phones because their phones are better, or iMessage is, not because of social pressure, which is crazy.

But isn't the entirety of OpenAI compute on Azure?
simse··on GitHub Actions could be so much better
A linter can catch some obvious errors: https://github.com/rhysd/actionlint. But yes, I agree, it's not a fun debugging experience.
simse··on Bun 1.0 announcement [video]
Everything about Bun is so exciting, not just the runtime, but the package manager is impressively fast.

On my small website, Bun is twice as fast pnpm which is already much faster than yarn which is much faster than npm.

Github Copilot FAQ: "GitHub Copilot is powered by a generative AI model developed by GitHub, OpenAI, and Microsoft."
simse··on Cody – The AI that knows your entire codebase
I would love to try this out, but I would like to see a headless version of the desktop app as I do all my programming over SSH.
simse··on GPT-4 is getting worse over time, not better
Also tried with GPT-3.5 which also catches the issue.
simse··on GPT-4 is getting worse over time, not better
Response from GPT-4 just now:

> It seems like there's a bit of a typo in your question. I think you may be referring to the difference between "wet bulb" temperatures and "dry bulb" temperatures. [...]

simse··on Ask HN: What would an IDE built for the Apple Vision Pro look like?
edit: visionOS not realityOS
simse··on Ask HN: What would an IDE built for the Apple Vision Pro look like?
Looks very interesting, thanks for sharing this.
simse··on Ask HN: What would an IDE built for the Apple Vision Pro look like?
Totally. Any iOS, or in this case realityOS, IDE would necessarily have to be remote only to actually be useful.
simse··on Apple Vision
You look at the letters on the keyboard, and "tap" by pinching your fingers. You can also just look at an input and start speaking.

> And transparency mode on modern headphones is a waste of time since you can just take them off.

Unless you want to continue listening to what's playing through the headphones. I enjoy listening to both the nature and quiet music when I go on walks.

$3499, gulp, but it looks awesome!
simse··on OpenAI's plans according to sama
> A stateful API

This would be huge for many applications, as "chatting" with GPT-4 gets really, really expensive very quickly. I've played with API with friends, and winced as I watched my usage hit several dollars for just a bit of fun.

simse··on Ask HN: How do I make a website in 2023?
Next.js has a very good developer experience, and there's lots of tutorials and documentation on it. With that said, there's nothing wrong with picking Rails. It's not as popular as the JS frameworks anymore, but it's arguably much better in many ways.

JS suggestions: Sveltekit, Next.js, Remix Server-side suggestions: Rails, Phoenix, Django, Laravel

simse··on Whisper.cpp v1.4.0
Exciting to see some parts now (optionally) running on the GPU.
simse··on Remove “This incident will be reported.” from user warnings
The warning is added back here: https://github.com/sudo-project/sudo/commit/9757d29a24ac1872...
simse··on Improbably Right
Sorry, unrelated to the writing (which I enjoyed), but related to the horizontal scrollbar! If you change w-screen to w-full on both the navbar and footer, it goes away. 100vw -> 100%. Just a tiny enhancement to an otherwise good looking website.
simse··on Lego breaks ground on first US manufacturing facility
That is correct, but has since been bought back. Well it's a little more complicated, but it's 50% owned by the Kirky family.
