signalsignal··on Is Facebook burnout finally igniting?
I have an idea for HN. If there were tags on the links like entertainment it would be easier to see how valuable the content was a at a glance before I clicked. Better still, what if there were tags and the users could vote on the tag relevancy, removing the tag if a certain threshold was passed.
signalsignal··on Google Acquires Nik Software
I think it is funny you mention that in light of the recent comments on HN about how html5 isn't the problem but the implementation that Facebook took.
signalsignal··on There is something magical about Firefox OS
Hence the context of being magical. It is more of a sleight of hand trick than actual supernatural. The author of the post is misusing a development term to convey a different meaning.
signalsignal··on Ask HN: How much recurring income do you generate, and from what?
Since you won't be selling them on the app store, what are the names of the apps?
signalsignal··on The Next Step in Apple's Thermonuclear War Against Android
Yes, and it's called jury nullification. The jury did not do so therefore they did not feel the law was unjust.
signalsignal··on Who inherits your iTunes library when you die?
You are completely wrong about CD prices. They were cheaper than tapes and records to make up for the "relatively" high cost of CD players. Back then an entry level CD player cost about 250 USD but a tape player could be had for about ten dollars. The cost of printing CD's was therefore subsidized to encourage adoption of the format.
signalsignal··on Marissa Mayer Wants To Give Every Yahoo Employee An iPhone
Considering her background was Google, it is interesting that she is going with Apple's products. Maybe it is a slap in the face to her former employer going to their main rival.
signalsignal··on STL Hackathon Canceled After Social Backlash
There is no free ride, but their are free trials.
signalsignal··on Steve Yegge: Notes from the Mystery Machine Bus
Face it, Steve Yegge jumped the shark.
signalsignal··on How you eat corn on the cob predicts whether you're an analyst or algebraist
I prefer procedural programming, so I should suck at eating corn on the cob?

Compile me confused.

signalsignal··on Drinking at work: the boredom of boozeless business
According to the article they would look down on you if you went, so maybe they think of not going as a favor. Or maybe they are worried about how you might see them if they drank.
signalsignal··on LibreOffice 3.6.0: behind the scenes
I think bin/germane-comment would have been a great pun.
signalsignal··on Ex-Goldman Programmer Is Arrested Again
I think the theory goes that it isn't double jeopardy if the municipal, state, and federal don't work "in concert". I only just read the article, so I can't explain what "scientific espionage" even is.
signalsignal··on Android and iOS continue to carve up the world
To be fair to the GP this is typically viewed as an entrepreneur's forum and does not typically focus on finding freelance or contract work. Apps can therefore be sold directly to customer by the developer as a sole-proprietor using Apple or Google's distribution platform. Nevertheless, Android does appear to offer its users more in the way of free apps in the anything goes environment that is Google Play.
signalsignal··on Listening to users
This is a revelation to me. I would have never thought of that. Thanks HN!

Joking aside, is there a contextual search engine for apps (binaries and/or web apps) by context and usage? For instance how would I search for apps by what a SME would use?

signalsignal··on 15 percent of Mitt Romney Twitter followers are paid fakes
Twitter follower updates lag like YouTube views. I expect this kind of political finger pointing will continue and gather steam on HN until the election. If Obama is re-elected then it will essentially stop, but if Romney is elected it will continue up for the next four years. This site is like r/technology-lite in many ways.
signalsignal··on X11 and the disturbing trend of Apple removing functionality from OS X
You are wrong. Apple maintains java and didn't uninstall it when I upgraded.
signalsignal··on The iPad Put A Fork In Personal Computing
The iPad is succeeding because of a 10 hour battery life with wireless and a capacitance screen with an easy to use on screen keyboard. It was like Microsoft's Oragami project but worked for under $500. Android tablets can't beat it because now that platform has to duplicate the ease of use at the same price point, something which it has been unable to do.
signalsignal··on Is Apple Losing Its Shine After Steve Jobs?
Why don't you enumerate the complaints do he can refute each? It will be like HN teamwork. :)
signalsignal··on Why “just do it” is bullshit
How is that a slug? It sounds more like an opinion after all.
signalsignal··on Why “just do it” is bullshit
I didn't see any slurs in what he wrote. Try to be more constructive.
signalsignal··on Mobile game devs: Middle-aged women are taking over the iPad
Why not automate the antedotes? I'm sure there is something on CPAN for that.
signalsignal··on The Second Amendment and the Insurrection Myth
Are there any start ups currently looking into disrupting the NRA?
signalsignal··on The Heretic - the U.S. government banned medical studies of the effects of LSD.
It would be an interesting thing to test for, that's for sure. But I would assume scientific analysis would focus on stopping depression caused by PTSD or something.
signalsignal··on The Disappointing Surprise From Apple
Never mentioned I disagreed with her. Where did you get that assumption?
signalsignal··on The Disappointing Surprise From Apple
I don't understand what the article is about. Is she trolling for page views? I don't understand why she considers herself "violated" by Apple. Don't people make backups anymore?
signalsignal··on Apple's new Mac ads are embarrassing
Is it just me or is there a lot of Anti-Apple links getting submitted to HN these days?
signalsignal··on Samsung Outsells iPhone, Breaks Shipping Records
False. Apple never dominated to smart phone market. It just dominates the revenues.
signalsignal··on Ask HN: Just learnt some python(Udacity CS101). Where to go from here?
Build a product/service you can sell to customers. Nothing focuses like money. Start with a free beta product and move from there.
signalsignal··on Stop Being So Afraid Of Offending Someone
I think that there is a category of articles submitted to HN which can be summed up as "Anecdote Evidence mentioning but not involving Steve Jobs".
