sesuximo··on Large Language Models for Compiler Optimization
I wonder if you could get a correct compiler (or 100% emulation in their terms) by allowing it to choose optimization pass order rather than doing more arbitrary things
sesuximo··on Compile time regular expression in C++
Isn’t the issue with functions like this that they are not guaranteed to be the same on all hardware? So making it constexpr could break programs or cause the constexpr evaluated result to differ from the runtime result even for the same inputs
sesuximo··on Ask HN: Why did Python win?
Python was released first
sesuximo··on Korean Air is asking passengers to step on the scales before boarding
On small private planes this is already a requirement, and i think most ppl are quite happy to give their weight rather than take any risk of crashing
sesuximo··on Sex Workers Took Refuge in Crypto. Now It’s Failing Them
Someone should make a wallet app that advertises to these people directly. (And you know… actually lets them stay on the platform.)
sesuximo··on Fastest branchless binary search
I’m too lazy to try it, but putting __builtin_unpredictable around the implementation of comp might make std::lower_bound less branchy
sesuximo··on Aeroflot deactivates brakes on nine aircraft, relies solely on reverse thrust
As an interesting aside, the word nazi means something slightly different to a Russian audience vs an American one. Or at least so I have read. I live in the US, and Nazi makes me think of an anti-Semitic 1940s German. But in Russia it seems to mean threat to Russians/oppressor.

sesuximo··on Aeroflot deactivates brakes on nine aircraft, relies solely on reverse thrust
If the options are:

- have sanctions, more Russians die, and fewer Ukrainians die because the war ends sooner

- the opposite

Then your suggestion seems to value Russian lives over Ukrainian ones.

sesuximo··on How D.C. Is Sending Its Most Dangerous Drivers a Message
Yeah I think a camera at every intersection is a good idea. I’m sure people from out of town would hate this (and probably some ppl in nyc would hate it too). But it would save lives. And if it led to law-following, it would great decrease stress.
sesuximo··on Aeroflot deactivates brakes on nine aircraft, relies solely on reverse thrust
I guess in an emergency you’d have to enable the brakes before landing (hopefully they aren’t too worn out already)
sesuximo··on How D.C. Is Sending Its Most Dangerous Drivers a Message
In and around NYC, i don’t think this would work. The most dangerous drivers are so flagrantly reckless (street racing, running reds, swerving through bike lanes or sidewalks, talking back to cops). It’s hard to imagine them responding well to a warning like this
sesuximo··on How the Rich Reap Huge Tax Breaks From Private Nonprofits
I think the idea is “the government should take money from projects for the greater good” … this is a concept that is 100s of years old
sesuximo··on How the Rich Reap Huge Tax Breaks From Private Nonprofits
I think “top income earners” might be misleading? For the people in the article who donate say 40mil to their foundation and write off that 40mil from their income… if they earned 30mil that year, would they still be counted as a top 1% earner for the year in your metrics?

I think you’re right overall about top 50% and top 1%, but I think as you consider ultra wealthy people it might not be as simple (or at least i wonder about more edge cases; maybe I’m wrong)

sesuximo··on Johnson and Johnson sues researchers who linked talc to cancer
:/

- J&J made useful products that may have been problematic according to cutting edge research. Now they are broke and fighting tons of litigation. And they are acting shady in court (thx to their lawyers/management, not their researchers no doubt).

- Researchers did cutting edge work on a relevant topic. Now they are getting sued.

- a load of people are suing J&J after choosing to buy their products. I’m sure some of the plaintiffs have real tough situations and some are motivated by greed/pushy lawyers. These people might get paid.

- the lawyers who did no cutting edge work and made no useful products are getting paid

- regular folk might have to pay more for j&j products

Few winners, and not the winners I would have wanted

sesuximo··on 100x Faster Than Wi-Fi: Light-Based Networking Standard Released
Why does any end user machine need more than a GB/sec?
sesuximo··on GPU accelerated SMT constraint solving (2021)
I’d recommend reading about DPLL and CDCL. These are relatively simple concepts that you can code up yourself
sesuximo··on NYC Congestion Toll Could Cost Drivers $23 per Trip Starting Next Spring
I think this “driving is a right” is true of America in general but not as much in NYC
sesuximo··on NYC Congestion Toll Could Cost Drivers $23 per Trip Starting Next Spring
Good correction. I hope we ignore NJ. Maybe we can make an exception for buses or a subsidy for the path train. Driving from NJ is such a mess
sesuximo··on NYC Congestion Toll Could Cost Drivers $23 per Trip Starting Next Spring
Why are they considering exemptions for low income or day visitors? day visitors in particular seems like exactly the kind of people who should pay. If you’re low income perhaps you could consider not driving?

I kind of understand an exemption for taxis especially at 60th street.

sesuximo··on The Pentagon’s $52k trash can
The pillows were the fires fuel. The original cause was heater/cooler systems malfunctioning (at least based on the page you linked)
sesuximo··on The Pentagon’s $52k trash can
This doesn’t add up to 50k. Maybe 300. Probably not even
sesuximo··on Debris Field Confirmed as Titan
Do airplanes count?
sesuximo··on Coroutines make robot code easy
Arguably this devalues the programming they are learning since Coroutines aren’t as generally applicable
sesuximo··on Gitless: A simple VCS built on top of Git
Is git really so bad if you spend ~1 hour trying to understand it and have access to stack overflow?
sesuximo··on Overview of C++ language support in Apple Clang
You can absolutely use a different compiler as an apple dev. Just might be a touch tougher to set up a non-standard build
sesuximo··on Ask HN: Can Lua be remade to use 0-based numbering?
Why not try it and report back?
sesuximo··on Army tested 'germ warfare' on NYC subway (2015)
I’ve recently been reading about MKUltra, and I wonder if the 60s was a crazy time or if the more recent “bad projects” are simply not yet declassified.
sesuximo··on ‘Attractive women 16% more likely to secure startup funding’
Yeah unclear if one hot lady and one plain lady or many of each.
sesuximo··on ‘Attractive women 16% more likely to secure startup funding’
> 111 male early-stage investors are shown video of the same start-up business idea presented by a conventionally hot actresses and one who is more plain

Is this one hot person to represent them all? Seems like not the world’s best experimental if so

Also maybe attractive (/charismatic?) men do better too.

sesuximo··on War Is a Racket (1935)
I think it’s fair to say American politics are violent, and it’s not really a partisan thing
