sesuximo··on Git Rebase for the Terrified
TIL ppl are afraid of rebase lmao
sesuximo··on Datacenters in space aren't going to work
100B is roughly NVIDIA’s yearly profit
sesuximo··on Shared_ptr<T>: the (not always) atomic reference counted smart pointer (2019)
Why is the atomic version slower? Is it slower on modern x86?
sesuximo··on BMW Group Product Catalog–Historic Models
It is criminal that you can’t see different angles for these beautiful cars! 507 with no front view? I need to see the evolution of those kidneys!
sesuximo··on Making an intersection unsafe for pedestrians to save seconds for drivers
We have the technology to cheaply enforce most driving laws. IMO we should do it.
sesuximo··on Python type hints may not be not for me in practice
> PPS: I think my ideal type hint situation would be if I could create distinct but otherwise unconstrained types for things like function arguments and function returns, have mypy or other typing tools complain when I mixed them

Cleaner/safer function args and return types is a common motivation for dataclass. has benefits over many/complex args besides typing too.

sesuximo··on Which power plant does my electricity come from?
> providers could choose not to generate electricity for a grid if it were necessary

Enron basically forced this exact situation in order to charge inflated prices.

Maybe worse is that this isn’t even the reason they ended up in court.

sesuximo··on Project Euler #912: Where are the Odds?
That’s just a job. Might as well get paid while you do that kinda stuff
sesuximo··on Some of us like "interdiff" code review
If someone brought back phabricator i think they’d make easy $
sesuximo··on Some Florida cities are living off red light cameras
There should be a camera on every intersection
sesuximo··on C++ patterns for low-latency applications including high-frequency trading
Wouldn’t the price movement overwhelm the spread if you sell more than a few days after you buy? I guess if spreads were huge it would matter more
sesuximo··on C++ patterns for low-latency applications including high-frequency trading
Why do high spreads mean more money for middlemen?
sesuximo··on Next gen 3D metal printing
I’d buy some parts if there was a service! Could be a good way to get the word out
sesuximo··on A robot will soon try to remove melted nuclear fuel from Fukushima reactor
The trusty one dimensional model of things. This is why I always train my neural nets with one parameter (sign bit only).
sesuximo··on Clever code is probably the worst code you could write (2023)
Imo it doesn’t matter at all. Both are fine. Surely there are more pressing things out there to think about!
sesuximo··on Car manufacturers break promise about sharing location data with police
Idk if this is worth the trouble. Isn’t a judge just going to stamp these requests anyway? Like sure maybe it’s better if they do but probably won’t be groundbreaking
sesuximo··on Thoughts on low latency trading if exchanges went full cloud
If an exchange goes to AWS, would it suddenly look worse than its competitors? And would that hurt the exchange’s revenue?
sesuximo··on Backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma leading to SSH server compromise
I think this is unfortunately very common practice
sesuximo··on Boeing CEO Calhoun to step down at end of 2024
Having the CEO leave doesn’t guarantee safer planes. If anything, I’d want to hear what the company leadership is doing to change production… not necessarily how it’s being reshuffled
sesuximo··on Why is it so hard to build an airport?
why not put the terminal in the urban area and have a fast train/ferry/whatever to the runways
sesuximo··on Nvidia Unveils Blackwell, Its Next GPU
Apu already taken by aviation tho
sesuximo··on Prisoners in the US are part of a hidden workforce linked to popular food brands
Perhaps a solution could be requiring them to be paid full wages? Then there is no incentive to hire prison laborers vs others
sesuximo··on Don't pass structs bigger than 16 bytes on AMD64
1) Maybe you could store the bitwise-or of size and capacity on top of each other. If you restrict capacity to a power of two

2) you could store the capacity before the array payload

sesuximo··on How Africans are changing French, one joke, rap and book at a time
This seems completely unsurprising? Subcultures have their own slang, and some of it is spreading? That’s true in French/English/anything
sesuximo··on Amazon Unveils Graviton4: A 96-Core ARM CPU with 536.7 GBps Memory Bandwidth
I don’t know for sure, but many companies use old hardware for less intense tasks like being a cpu attached to a massive disk for cold storage
sesuximo··on New York may ban noncompete employment agreements and Wall Street is not happy
People sometimes leave and take less money. Plenty of other reasons to change jobs.
sesuximo··on Nvidia, one of tech's hottest companies, is fine with remote work
They’re so rich they could do almost anything and it would “work” — at least in the short term.
sesuximo··on Tire dust makes up the majority of ocean microplastics
If I want to buy a good-for-the environment tire, what should I buy? I don’t care about the price unless it’s insane
sesuximo··on Westinghouse/Bechtel Consortium Agreement: First Nuclear Power Plant in Poland
They may make other investments as well
sesuximo··on Westinghouse/Bechtel Consortium Agreement: First Nuclear Power Plant in Poland
This probably sounds different to Brits vs non Brits
