serpix··on Conversation skills essentials
Interrupting like this is a form of manipulation and a tell for a controlling personality.
serpix··on The Fermi paradox revisited: Technosignatures and the contact era
We as a species are very hostile towards all forms of life on earth. Some of us are scientists and open to communication and peaceful existence. Some of us are locusts, everything is devoured for personal gain. Our track record for meeting other species and other human cultures is such that were the roles reversed, meeting a human traveller from another star system would better be met with armed resistance.
serpix··on ChatGPT passes the 2022 AP Computer Science A free response section
> It has the same intelligence of a mirror, perfectly mimicking the ideas of someone else.

This is going to sound really horrible and offensive to many, but a very large portion of humanity functions like this.

serpix··on Stable Diffusion with Core ML on Apple Silicon
It sucks to have to figure it out, any person who figures it out should submit a PR on the very outdated Apple Silicon readme.
serpix··on Tailwind is a leaky abstraction
After trying out Tailwind in one pet project I have to say that for larger teams it should not be used. Looking at the code now I get the feeling that maintenance would be a big problem.

A bigger project with multiple pages having full on Tailwind css classes peppered everywhere looks to be a nightmare.

Does anyone have experience jumping into an existing larger project with legacy tailwind all over the place? Would you do it again?

serpix··on Emotionally Intelligent People Use 3-Word Phrase When Criticised
Don't think about the pink elephant.

There is study for the brains inability to deal with negatives. In communication one can get rid of a lot of miscommunication by rewording negatives. Just mishearing or misreading a sentence can reverse the intended meaning.

serpix··on Stable Diffusion 2.0
Current Stable Diffusion's (1.4 and 1.5) img2img can accomplish a lot of this.
serpix··on Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 EV makes its US debut
The use pattern is different. You leave it overnight on a standard socket and it will charge fully. Or leave it charging while going to work. I don't have charging at home at all and charge at work which keeps me comfortably topped up. If I lack any charge on the weekends I just top up once in a fast charger for about 10 minutes. Fast chargers are probably now or very soon more common than gas stations around Southern Finland.
serpix··on Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 EV makes its US debut
Test drove the car during winter and they really did not design it for winter.

- Appalling charging speed (I believe they fixed this). - Rear window gets covered with asphalt/dirt from studded tyre drivers. - The car handles poorly in slippery road conditions, I got very poor traction cornering and accelerating in conditions that very not that bad. - It is too wide, couldn't fit it in my friends parking space when visiting and also found it too wide for some narrow streets for driving it comfortably

serpix··on Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 EV makes its US debut
This is interesting because in European 230V sockets a 2kW power is safe and well under rated maximum of ~3kW. So if you park your car at around 7pm and leave at 7am you get 24kWh charge from a simple standard socket. It could deliver another 12kWh, if you have a charger that can be configured to go higher and you know you won't overheat any cables or connections along the way.

Some houses have the red plug, a three phase plug which can do 11kW continuous, around 7kW sustained and very safe.

serpix··on Clear snow the laziest way
In Scandinavia the sun is a rare and brief sighting during the winter. The appearance of the sun during winter is a national event and for a very few brief minutes there is hope that the darkness will one day end.

Even thinking about the possibility that one day the sun might be seen makes me emotional.

serpix··on Web automation: Don't use Selenium, use Playwright
Cypress has the cy.wait() for precisely letting cypress catch up, or am I missing something here?

I really really like the cy.intercept() for intercepting and modifying requests.

serpix··on Web automation: Don't use Selenium, use Playwright
Nordpool energy prices perhaps?
serpix··on Is there too much CSS now?
Grid everything, it has everything flex has and mixing the two makes one want to rage quit.
serpix··on Barilla passive cooker
230V/3kW induction stove boils a cup of water faster than you can get the cup from the cupboard.
serpix··on DIY gadgets that could keep your energy bill down
This is outgoing flow temperature thermostat, adjusting the heating curve based on outside temperature. A very basic component which is on every single water based heating system in the Nordic countries. I am baffled why this is not a standard part. This component can also adjust the flow rate and the temperature of the water. A more advanced system can look ahead the coming weather AND price of energy and use thermal capacity to overheat / cool the building ahead of time.
serpix··on Ask HN: Why don't I see gold at the end of the remote working rainbow?
you call it chemistry and socialisation. What I call chemistry and socialisation are actual sensory inputs like smell, touch, sound and real eye contact. I can't bypass real human contact with a flat screen.
serpix··on Ask HN: Why don't I see gold at the end of the remote working rainbow?
what? Hell no. I have kids and working remotely with kids around is impossible. Work / family needs to be separated for me, my mental health greatly depends on it.
serpix··on Two recent books by historians explore the crisis in biological psychiatry
And the way to feel healthy, truly healthy, is to be connected to networks of society or communities that are safe, supportive and which have your back.
serpix··on Two recent books by historians explore the crisis in biological psychiatry
I detect the sarcasm but others may not. As a thought experiment I present that any emotion can always be felt in the body.

If you feel nothing, no emotion or no sensation in the body then that is also a felt emotion in the body as a lack of feeling.

serpix··on Fixing macOS Zsh Terminal History Settings
Installed McFly and the history has not once been erased. Prior to that my history keeps getting truncated.
serpix··on Lesser known Apple Watch workouts
Workoutdoors is a diamond, unicorn, gem of an app. This single app is better than what Garmin, Suunto, Polar, Apple combined put out.

serpix··on Three Nord Stream gas pipelines damaged in one day
Most mainland European gas reserves are full, there will be no freezing in Europe this winter.
serpix··on Three Nord Stream gas pipelines damaged in one day

serpix··on German digital signage ban prompts confusion
I have major problems believing those numbers. Hot water alone eats up that much per year.
