serpix··on FUTO Swipe – A new swipe typing model
Tried Grammarly, could you possibly include a few more onboarding animations and reminders to upgrade to the paid version? I almost finished typing a word.
serpix··on MiMo-v2.5-Pro-UltraSpeed: 1T model with 1000 tokens per second
I may sound like a shill, but exponential growth and all. We are going to get near instant software from prompt, multiple ones and then choose the best one.

Discussions about choosing a library with the best syntactic sugar method naming is just as crazy as suggesting we type in assembly.

serpix··on Pretty soon, heat pumps will be able to store and distribute heat as needed
Yes, same thing. Heat pump to heat exchanger. This is over 39 years old tech and in common use around Scandinavia and mainland europe. This is ancient technology.
serpix··on Vitamin D and Omega-3 have a larger effect on depression than antidepressants
Omega 3 comes from algae, which might be okay for some vegans.
serpix··on Show HN: Terminal UI for AWS
If you have permanent credentials then you are already in great danger. You should be using temporary credentials with something like Granted.

Linuxbrew is absolutely fantastic. No need to mess with apt repositories and can keep custom binaries separate from the os. Almost everything is there, and it just works.
serpix··on 250MWh 'Sand Battery' to start construction in Finland
it does! With a heat pump and insulation.
serpix··on ChatGPT Pulse
A very good tip: you get one chance to prompt them to a new path failing that clear the context and start again from the current premise.

Use only actionable prompts, negations don't work on ai and they don't work on people.

serpix··on ChatGPT Pulse
Same here! Started learning self hosted k3s, with terraform and IaC and all the bells and whistles. I would never have had the energy to look up how to even get started. In three hours I have a cluster.
serpix··on Cognitive load is what matters
These points are about organising code and workflow. Even if you have organised your functions to the lowest possible unit of work you can still have a mess of async queue microservice hell which is the actual architecture.

Architecture is another topic entirely and the scope is higher abstractions across multiple systems.

serpix··on Why LLMs can't really build software
Well the AI will just steamroll through and will therefore go out of rails just like a junior dev on a coding binge.
serpix··on Emailing a one-time code is worse than passwords
hilariously that is just what I tried to do the other day and oh boy are we safe from AI taking over just yet.
serpix··on Emailing a one-time code is worse than passwords
so many of these Authentication providers have a hockey stick pricing scheme, where the first few users are near free and when you grow you are going to get mugged and kicked in the groin.
serpix··on Why Exercise Is a Miracle Drug
Then we switch sports and start rehab. Aerobic exercise can be done in so many ways.
serpix··on The Effect of Noise on Sleep
2 euro silicone ear plugs from Aliexpress easily beat the custom ear plugs I had.
serpix··on Generative AI coding tools and agents do not work for me
Regarding using AI tools for programming it is not a one-for-all choice. You can pick a grunt work task such as "Tag every such and such terraform resource with a uuid" and let it do just that. Nothing to do with quality but everything to do with a simple task and not having to bother with the tedium.
serpix··on AI Horseless Carriages
What I've found with agents is that they stray from the task and even start to flip flop on implementations, going back and forth on a solution. They never admit they don't know something and just brute force a solution even though the answer cannot be found without trial and error or actually studying the problem. I repeatedly fall back to reading the docs and just finishing the job myself as the agent just does not know what to do.
serpix··on 'Sun-Like' Stars
you interfered with the browser scroll and for that you deserve a loud BOO.
serpix··on U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat
There are more options than this.
serpix··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
So is it going to be Kubernetes as the IaC stack from now on? I'm asking as a heads up as I foresee a potential major demand for infrastructure migrations in the future.
serpix··on Why Clojure?
The compiler will not know if a protocol is not passed to a function expecting a protocol. Whereas a static typing language will not compile.

Similarly nothing prevents invoking missing functions of a protocol, you will only know during runtime.

serpix··on Software engineer pay heatmap for Europe
Really? Even if they're accurate I feel like I should be going to Switzerland asap.
serpix··on China is the manufacturing superpower
There is no EU/US equivalent to many products. We simply don't make things.
serpix··on OpenAI O3 breakthrough high score on ARC-AGI-PUB
I agree. Watching my toddler daughter build with small legos makes me understand how incredible fine motor skills are as even with small fingers some of the blocks are just too hard to snap together.
serpix··on INNER JOIN ON vs WHERE clause (2009)
Both examples are (to my delight) using aliased table names for all columns which is already a major step up in readability.
serpix··on Bill Gates tries to install Movie Maker
I found it hilarious one of the execs did not know what owning a product means:

> I don't know what it means to "own website issues"

serpix··on Bug squash: An underrated interview question
compare this with the technical interview bomb of demanding you write a full blown program right fuking now, complete with tests. Which one do you prefer?
serpix··on Ditch banks – Go with money market funds and treasuries
Also had the same experience and distinctly remember schools teaching about saving using only bank accounts as the examples.
serpix··on How to prolong lithium based batteries
Lfp voltages are all over the place and even after charging to 90% the voltage drops back down. They might not care much at all being charged to high percentages. There is no reliable way to know the SoC other than coulomb counting and regular 100% top balancing.
serpix··on Popular Mac app 'Bartender' acquired by new unknown developer
Dozer does the same and is free.
