sebazzz··on Offline PKI using 3 Yubikeys and an ARM single board computer
ZScaler is an absolute horror for a software developer also in charge of ops.
sebazzz··on The Alexa feature "do not send voice recordings" you enabled no longer available
> You also have to ask yourself why so many europeans try to move to the US for a better life

I can guarantee you that number is now not growing so much.

sebazzz··on Move over, Apple: Meet the alternative app stores coming to the EU
> Good luck banning anything when there are Chinese and Russian app stores online.

Actually, in the current implementation the notarization is still with Apple so they could actually ban it.

sebazzz··on Washington Post editor resigns after accusing CEO of killing column
The side effect may be intended: even further distrust in traditional media.
sebazzz··on Washington Post editor resigns after accusing CEO of killing column
For all the conspiracies spun up in the world like Bilderberg this is actually one that seems to be in plain daylight.
sebazzz··on Tesla shares plunge 14%, head for worst day in five years
Many Tesla shareholders seem to be loyal like no one else.

It is odd, companies have been sued for less.

sebazzz··on Firmware update bricks HP printers, makes them unable to use HP cartridges
I purchased a HP laser printer instead. I don't print that often and it has been complaining since a few packs of paper ago that the black toner is almost empty but it just keeps printing.
sebazzz··on X.com Is Down
He will probably get fined by not reaching his fake news quota.
sebazzz··on NIH will eliminate many peer review panels, lay off scientists overseeing them
I’m only slightly familiar with the academic process. Who reviews the peer reviewer?
sebazzz··on Ask HN: With trust in Firefox gone, is Chrome-ish the only option?
It is still the least worse option. These posts like OP is just throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
sebazzz··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
Every single bit of the Trump club you meant. The USA used to have a sane right wing party.

But yes, projection. Like free speech, playing with World War III, etc.

sebazzz··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
If that is the case, how can I manage my EU Azure instances via the regular Azure Portal, yet US-Microsoft not having any access?
sebazzz··on How much traffic can a pre-rendered Next.js site handle?
Reusing HTTP connections is not relevant if the app is behind a reverse proxy like nginx, which, last time I checked, still didn’t proxy with http2 multiplexing connections to the app server.
sebazzz··on YouTube, when the walls fell [video]
It was an explanation of the title, not the video. The video is about Jeff Geerling explaining that he is now diversifying his video output to Floatplane due to YouTube AI slop, removing dislikes, censorship policy, and user hostile behaviour. And he explains why it is Floatplane and not Nebula or others.
sebazzz··on US 'to cease all future military exercises in Europe'
Then look at the other things, that weaken the US both internally and externally. Leaving the WHO, removing all soft power with USAID, spreading Russian propaganda points.

If it talks like a duck, squawks like a duck…

sebazzz··on Kagi Is Bringing Orion Web Browser to Linux
You can't generalize the EU. It are dozens of completely different countries.

> In fact, all the amazing software engineers I know in Europe.. work for US companies, making US software products (and making US total comp).

What is an amazing software developer if it is not someone who delivers business value? Because there are a lot of software development companies in the Netherlands for instance, or teams part of companies, and they surely deliver business value or they wouldn't exist.

By now I would also bet that of the small subset of developers considering emigrating to the States, sure think they've now dodged a bullet.

sebazzz··on Kagi Is Bringing Orion Web Browser to Linux
Nice, if it runs on Linux it can run on Windows through WSL.
sebazzz··on US support to maintain UK's nuclear arsenal is in doubt
It is not possible remove a member from the NATO. And we also have for instance Hungary which also acts like a Trump puppet. Each has veto rights. The NATO is broken in more than one way.
sebazzz··on The DOJ still wants Google to sell off Chrome
Maybe the actual problem is some people having this sentiment.
sebazzz··on US support to maintain UK's nuclear arsenal is in doubt
Trump has no interest of enforcing article 5.
sebazzz··on PayPal honey extension has again "featured" flag in Chrome web store
Om the other hand, negative experiences would lead to a review earlier. You know, the loud negative majority.
sebazzz··on What if America turned off Britain's weapons?
From Wikipedia:

> United States President Bill Clinton signed a bill ordering that Selective Availability be disabled on May 1, 2000; and, in 2007, the US government announced that the next generation of GPS satellites would not include the feature at all.

Also, SA just meant you couldnt resolve with an accuracy less than 100 meters. It didn't mean "turn off GPS in a part of a world".

sebazzz··on The "Take It Down" Act
I curious. Nearly everything has been done through decretes until now. Why choose the difficult path by actually letting this go through the Senate and House?
sebazzz··on In Severance, Office Perks Couldn't Be More Sinister
I have exactly the opposite. I found it very difficult to get through the first half of season 1, but actually after that I found it more and more interesting.
sebazzz··on In Severance, Office Perks Couldn't Be More Sinister
I don't see your point. The work at Apple is mysterious and important.
sebazzz··on Brother accused of locking down third-party printer ink cartridges
Clogged cartridges aren't the major issue. Clogged print heads means your printer is ruined and you can dispose of it. Except for HP printers where the print head is in the cartridge itself.
sebazzz··on Apple introduces iPad Air with powerful M3 chip and new Magic Keyboard
I use mine to browse the web a bit after work and consume RSS feeds using Feedly - always with the type cover. But for productivity, even with the Office apps, the information density on the screen is too low. Instead, I use my iPad as a thin client to RDP to my desktop computer, running Windows 11.

This is with an iPad Pro 2021.

In hindsight I should have purchased a Surface Pro tablet again, but I was so angry on the constant driver issues and similar problems.

sebazzz··on The weird afterlife of Xbox Kinect
They are still in use at some museum in the Netherlands. Probably connected to some Windows computer. I wonder how long they will keep working, given driver support.
sebazzz··on Learning C# and .NET after two decades of programming
That version of SignalR you are referring to is from .NET framework and really bolted on. That version of the framework had async/await in ASP.NET also bolted on, and the threads itself use a synchronisation context and locks.

This is mostly no longer the case in modern .NET. SignalR is a core part of the framework and completely rewritten.

In our case, Blazor Server has been very stable for us, also for multiple users.

sebazzz··on Learning C# and .NET after two decades of programming
We've transferred almost every core developer to Rider. Visual Studio runs crappy due to do much telemetry and anti-malware on the system. Rider still runs somewhat bearable.
