Good time to consider and try out alternatives!

Such as Bluesky

Is Bluesky good enough and dense enough if I block all political keywords? X is good enough for me after muting all political keywords.

There was a link recently to a site that lists all top links on Bluesky and overwhelmingly all were about US politics.

It has great support for blocking yes. In fact, there are curated and/or crowdsourced block lists that one can subscribe to so you don’t have to spend as much time doing it yourself. I am sure there’s one that’s suitable for your needs but I don’t have any to recommend

..you can do that?! I've been dreaming of the ability to block certain words and phrases from Twitter. Blue sky is too chaotic for me… I'm OK sticking with Twitter so long as I can block words and phrases.

or mastodon. or threads. or <anme your platform here>... I hate that the short-text social media world got so fragmented. Twitter was the one place i could go to say hi to my neighbors, complain to a company and get recompense, grow my hobbies with friends, ask almost any restaurant "are you open on $holiday?" and just watch the whole world breathe.

And nothing of value was lost

Well where else am I supposed to socialize with fellow cybertruck owners?

Fire station?

Looks like twitter is blocking isitdownrightnow based on the "this is down for 80 days"

What microservice did Musk delete this time?

Probably fired the DDOS protection team

He will probably get fined by not reaching his fake news quota.

Dark Storm has taken credit... at least that's what Newsweek says. https://www.newsweek.com/x-twitter-outage-dark-storm-live-up...

Wow. They really did a number. Really destroyed everything. It took X like 30 minutes! to restore function.

Does anyone know yet, if this was really a cyberattack? And if so, how the hackers were able to pull this off? Was it a DDOS-Attack?

I guess they did need that datacenter that musk decided to DIY remove after all

Government infrastructure under attack, Musk is demanding nuclear retaliation as we speak.

(Misinformation disclaimer :: Joke)

I'm not sure if you are joking or serious. Interesting times.

Pavlov rang his bell to the comment section. :)

this is minimum 6th dupe: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43322115

"The site has been unreachable for more than 80 days."

Why are you downvoted? It is what the site says. What the hell has happened to HN?

Its not even a controversial comment. Da hell?

I sense that change too. Comments are starting to feel too much like Reddit unfortunately.

It is suffering from DDOS attack. People are already politicizing it trying to blame Iran.

Definitely has nothing to do with axing the staff

correct. because twitter 1.0 went down constantly.

and staff has been axed for awhile.

ddos happens, having a large staff isn't really relevant.

Don't be making a mess in the HN echo chamber!

eh twitter 1.0 was 10+ years ago. twitter more recently had been extremely stable.

(source: was on the platform eng team for years)

quality is relevant

elaborate.

The site has performed more or less the same after the staff cuts as it did before. I say this as somebody who has used it nearly daily for ten-ish years now. Most users I know have the same experience. Maybe you noticed something if you're parked on Twitter for hours at a time, but I try to limit my exposure to people that do that.

I get that Musk is a dipshit and that there are other problems with the site since the change of ownership, but the griping about stability seems to come from people that don't actually use it.

It's becomming slower and slower over time. Feeds often don't load properly. Refresh only works properly manually since the feed often disconnects. Dragscroll (or whoever it is called when you press a button and you can scroll by dragging the mouse up/down) is broken and results in 100% cpu load and a stalled site until you cancel it. But these are just my annoyances, maybe it's just me. I'm switching it out for alternatives as much as possible anyway.

And as a bonus there is rampant racism and hate.
