seattle_spring··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
> It only signals to me that they have other priorities

Yes, priorities other than their business.

seattle_spring··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
Using AI to make a sign is likely a pretty good indicator as to the effort the owner puts into other aspects of their business.
seattle_spring··on Ask HN: Any Software Engineers here who enjoy their AI-native dev workflow?
Can anyone comment on if this is how larger tech companies are operating now? Not AI-only companies like Anthropic or OpenAI, but companies like Meta, Stripe, Google, Airbnb, etc.

I see this strategy evangelized a lot on LinkedIn, but it's 100% of the time posted by folks with titles like "AI Native Innovator" who work for themselves or no-name startups.

seattle_spring··on Tell HN: Hacker News datetimes are falsely precise
Z means Zero Time (+00:00). They're UTC timestamps

I would hope so
seattle_spring··on Chicken products recalled in five states due to “false marks of inspection”
Oh hey, that's the same percentage as the new-hire equity grant for most SWE roles nowadays!
seattle_spring··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
Not really. More like the modern equivalent of "I don't watch Fox News."
seattle_spring··on Anthropic IPO filing will show AI backlash as a risk factor, sources say
AI backlash is not because of "high variance"...

Is your comment meant to be making fun of the people who think AI is doing no harm?

The world is considerably worse because of AI than the effects of beer and cigarettes. No, I'm not joking.

seattle_spring··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
That seems like a wildly different scenario to me. The OP is about a guy who has not committed any crimes. Andrew Tate is a known predator and CSAM peddler, with an active warrant in several countries.
seattle_spring··on I requested a copy of my data from McDonald’s loyalty program
Same thing has happened to grocery stores. The place near me doesn't even staff a single checkout lane after 8pm-- the only option is to use self-checkout. I had a full cart at 9pm a while back and asked an employee if they could help me checkout. She literally laughed before telling me that I had to use self-checkout, or I was out of luck and would need to come back tomorrow.
seattle_spring··on uBlock Origin Is Giving Up the Fight to Keep Ads Off Facebook
Partially, yes. Ads are also psychological, and tracked cross-platform. If you see a BMW ad on Facebook, drive by a BMW billboard on the highway, search BMW on Google, and then go buy a BMW, they have ways of fractionally allocating the conversion to the different impressions. It's pretty crazy.
seattle_spring··on Grok Bot
Yeah I'm a bit baffled too... the world is so, so much worse now because of AI.

More scams/spam, lower quality software everywhere, development is no longer fun, many interactions with coworkers are just "have my people talk to your people" behind the scenes, except it's "have my LLM read the huge document your LLM generated". Every business is trying to cut corners by using AI, so customer service sucks, products suck, prices are optimized to be the absolute maximum people will pay regardless of the actual value being provided (including food)...

seattle_spring··on Ask HN: Anyone have solution to Opus verbosity in Claude Code?
I've resorted to adding instructions like, "do not insert any comments unless they will be exceptionally useful in clarifying blocks of code for future developers."

Adding it to AGENTS.md seems to do nothing.

seattle_spring··on AI financial advice is surprisingly good, especially if you ask right questions
Right but once your traditional IRA is fully rolled over to a 401k, you can take full advantage of backdoor Roth IRA contributions regardless of income.

seattle_spring··on Is surveillance risk chilling your online speech?
Anyone else notice that the things certain people claim to be "not allowed to say" are somehow wedged into every single thread, post, or forum on the internet? If you were actually forbidden from saying it, then I wouldn't have to read it 20 times a day.
seattle_spring··on S&P Global has lowered Oracle’s creditworthiness from BBB to BBB-
I know at least one of those only uses Oracle for internal/HR "cloud" purposes, while their main customer-facing business is on AWS. Not sure about the others, but when I think of a business using "Oracle cloud" I don't interpret it as just their marketing/HR.
seattle_spring··on I love LLMs, I hate hype
They're spending $10 million USD per engineer on LLMs?
seattle_spring··on New York City to ban deceptive subscription practices
The "and" is very important here. Places like Seattle now mandate servers get a real wage. It inexplicably hasn't changed tip culture at all, so now they get regular wages and still complain when someone doesn't tip 20%+ for a takeout order.
seattle_spring··on AI changes the economics of software rewrites
> Garbage

It's not just garbage — it's AI slop garbage.

seattle_spring··on Ask HN: How Do You "Not Write Any Code by Hand" with a Token Budget?
> "you shouldn't be writing code by hand"

That sounds unbelievably moronic as a firm mandate. Are companies actually mandating this?

seattle_spring··on Ask HN: Why are so many "AI evangelists" posting such insufferable content?
Or an unrelated half-naked thirst trap beach selfie. You know, to "drive engagement."
seattle_spring··on Ask HN: Why are so many "AI evangelists" posting such insufferable content?
I just went to check-- I have 6 first-degree connections with the phrase "thought leader" in their title. This out of about 800 connections, all of which are people I've met in-person. Some real-world examples:

* "Independent Thought Leader and Consultant"

* "Strategy, Innovation, and Distruptive Technology thought leader in the Hyperscale/Cloud business"

* "AI Thought Leader + Founder at <company name>.ai"

* "C++ expert and agile process thought leader"

When expanded to 2nd degree connections, I get more than 10 pages of results when searching for the phrase "Thought Leader" (in quotes, so it's not a fuzzy search phrase).
