“The Anonymous protests for the most part work by having a lot of people send a lot of commands to a website, that it can’t handle so many requests. This is equivalent of a crowd of people going to the door of a building and having a protest on the street. It’s basically legitimate."
No it's not. This is just a few persons coming in buses and stopping the entry. If you want to equal it to protest then all the requests have to come from real people, not some bots.
I'm also not agreeing with this:
"I won’t use the non-free software at all! I dedicate my effort to getting away from it! So if they stop making it – that would be great!"
This is ridiculous. I understand that the current IP legislation is a load of crap but trying to get ALL software to be free is absurd. How are developers going to live? How about groceries? Can I pay for that? Or that should be free as well?
Actually this is something that I've ran into with my girlfriend.
We both work in multinationals that have offices close to each other so we leave and come together.
Her boss is in another country and doesn't enforce a starting hour for her schedule. But I'm having trouble convincing her to start earlier (I want 8 AM) in order to leave at 5 PM. Her reason: she doesn't want that the other girls in her department (Recruitment) mistakenly consider her a slacker behind her back. She thinks that sometime down the road, when asked, somebody will answer that she doesn't work hard enough because she's leaving earlier than 6 PM without mentioning that she's coming in earlier.
Only that you'll have to correct this more and more in time because earth's second isn't constant (actually this is exactly why they started to use the leap second).
So why do it? Just to get a /Universal/ time in sync with Earth?
I feel this is only a symptom of a social change. We don't value hard work anymore. Everyone pushing for college degree has watered down the meaning of college graduate. For every one that actually wanted to earn it and learn there lots more interested in just the diploma, without no real understanding of their field of choice. This resonates with the fact that the society promotes shows about Kim Kardashian and they've become so central.
It's just so easy to become complacent and mediocre when that's what's really the mentality they're trained to have. It's starting to feel more and more like Atlas Shrugged.
I didn't see your post. Just signed up for the waiting list.
But the thing is that if it takes to long people will lose interest, though I have to admit the name/domain is catchy.
If Facebook or someone else is unhappy with this they can just make their own search engine. I don't see an issue with Google promoting another Google product on it's own search page.
To be honest I believe this was true in the past as well. People will read one specific newspaper because of one journalist. Somewhere along the way people stopped doing this and it's become more easy to observe this with the advent of the Internet where anyone can become a writer. I do really hope we'll get back to quality focused writing because at the moment there's not a newspaper that figured this out. They're all stuck in the past.
He does say that java isn't his language of choice, but it's one he has to stick with.
But if you've got a CS course as introductory to programming than his assignments go a long way to learning stuff. Bear in mind that this is not a class designed for elementary or high-school students, but for college, for people that really want to learn how to program, and how everything works.
I'm trying to switch to a Slackware environment with Fluxbox running in the front.
I've used Ubuntu for years, but realized that I had huge gaps about actual Linux knowledge because I was so used to the automation that Ubuntu provides.
Also I'm trying to learn emacs and vim now, and I'm really making an effort to go to a more keyboard/terminal oriented workflow. I'm getting faster and faster with it.
I'm the only one seeing this as the announcement of RIMs downfall? One of the things that really held BBs still going was that it's in almost all corporate environments. But I think a lot of users will jump ship after this.
At this point RIM is in serious problems.
The ones with back-light are really helpful if you want to read in low-light. Generally those are the ones that cost more. If you do such things than they become quite useful. I own one and I use it all the time. It's way better than turning on the light in the bedroom and bother my girlfriend. Now she doesn't realize that I don't fall asleep until 3-4 AM. :)
The flaw with your argument is that by not stopping it here it'll snowball and affect more systems, more countries etc. This should be stopped now, otherwise France will be next then Germany than US and all of a sudden we'll all move to China.
And when they only accept Paypal? What do yo do then?
I don't care if I have backups. Such a termination of services and further purging of data is a big no-no in my books.
I don't need to know his arguments. His actions speak louder than any of his words. I actually like their idea. If he bombed because he wanted people to read it, then by tainting any copy Anonymous can make sure that he has failed.
Truth be told, the article doesn't say how well they work at night. I don't think that it'll work just as good, but that doesn't mean it won't work at all.
But isn't Google subject to American laws, being an American based company? I'm just asking, I don't have experience in these type of legal matters, but it seems to me that they are supposed to do that.
This is most likely an automated trigger that blocked & scheduled for deletion that account. Even for a company as big as Google it's impossible to have these type of things reviewed by humans. What I do hope is that they'll create a channel for complaints if the user should want to.
What I don't understand is the way the parent behaves. He knows he's in the wrong and he still feels outraged because Google blocked the e-mail. Even though nobody reads the ToS it doesn't mean that they are moot. Google didn't make his son cry, his father did.
Actually it's called "20 minutes with my ChromeBook" and I haven't seen anything that suggests a full review. But it was interesting to read through someones first impressions.
This has been discussed before, I believe, back when someone notified Facebook that a page violates copyrights. FB took down that page without checking for facts and told the owner of the page that he has to resolve the issue with the one that raised the complaint.
Even if that would be the case now, how does Facebook assumes that the protesters can settle with the Goverment of Macedonia about the pages when they're still in the streets?
Just received their e-mail and my first reaction was that it was spam, but on further reading I was convinced it's genuine. At least they're transparent about what happened.
I'm living in one that wasn't part of the Soviet Union but the damage is done anyway. The thug mentality rules our contry (Romania). Maybe I was generalizing when I said post-communism countries. There are exception, but the rule is that most were influenced by the russian way of doing "business".
The attitude in communist countries after the Fall resembles so much to the one in "Atlas Shrugged" that it's scary. Goverment really is one big thug who will only steal. Nice countries, but it's a shame that there are people living in them. I should know. I live in one.
