rsivapr··on Show HN: Collected Notes – A note-taking blogging app I made
Considering you don't seem to have a new account:

I get that you're trying to be helpful. But the way you say things come through as being dismissive about other people's work. They just put in a bunch of work into it; they seem very open to getting feedback and working on it. I'm curious what you're trying to prove by calling it "crappy"?

rsivapr··on Show HN: Collected Notes – A note-taking blogging app I made
I'm curious if you're aware that "Show HN" in the title is someone with the community a new thing they've built.
rsivapr··on Python Data Visualization 2018: Why So Many Libraries?
A friend of mine created a page to show code snippets and comparisons between a few of the plotting libraries available in Python (and R) -- http://pythonplot.com/
rsivapr··on Why Jupyter is data scientists’ computational notebook of choice
Link to the deck by Joel Grus' talk that is mentioned in the article: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1n2RlMdmv1p25Xy5thJUh...
rsivapr··on Ask HN: What non-work task have you automated?
Automating book renewals back when I was in grad school.

rsivapr··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2017)
DigitalOcean | New York, Cambridge/Boston, Remote | Onsite/Remote | Visa

The Data & Analytics team is looking for Senior Data Engineers. You'd have to be in New York or be willing to relocate (DO provides relocation). Feel free to shoot me an email if you're interested. You can find the email in my profile.

We're always looking for engineers and product folks. Check out our careers page: https://www.digitalocean.com/company/careers/

rsivapr··on How to Get into Natural Language Processing
Worth mentioning here, the text summarization engines are pretty much only usable on news articles or text with clean paragraph structure (yes, non-tech literature works too). Popular text summarization tools as they stand now, fails on anything else.
rsivapr··on Calling bullshit
Any chance she'd be kind enough to provide some book recommendations?
rsivapr··on Hacker news for data scientists
Hey HN! We'd like to welcome you to DataTau!

If you're a data scientist or an ML enthusiast, please do engage/start discussions over in DataTau. That'd be splendid!

We've been trying to keep posts there pretty technical there and the community loves it so far. Think of DataTau as a place where you go to learn/share things you've learned from getting your hands dirty with data/Machine Learning/statistics/science!

rsivapr··on Hacker news for data scientists
I run DataTau. It's just rediscovery that probably motivated the post.

Changes are in the pipeline. I was waiting to roll them out before posting here.

rsivapr··on Welcome, cryptanalyst
Seems to be a gateway to access /foobar
rsivapr··on Automata: Like the Game of Life, but with violence
Nice! I made something similar except it was more about how people are influenced by ideas of people around them and less about violence. link: http://goo.gl/H0Wqxo
rsivapr··on Ask HN: What small webapps do you know that have a large audience?
I love workflowy, but it's definitely not a "small" web app.
rsivapr··on Show HN: A database for browsing and discovering movies
If there was a filter for "Available to stream on Netflix", I'd be all over this.
rsivapr··on Show HN: Multi-player Competitive Conway's Game of Life
Pretty cool! I did something similar when I was learning javascript. I built GoL for a three-state system. Here's the bl.ocks.org link : http://goo.gl/H0Wqxo
rsivapr··on Conway's Multiplayer Game of Life
Interesting. I extended the Game of Life to three states instead of the usual two states when I was learning javascript. Just a fun little hack.

rsivapr··on Facebook Reports Second Quarter 2014 Results
I would think it's fair assumption that a significant percentage of those users are being counted multiple times if they have duplicate accounts.

EDIT: I don't see how the above statement beckons downvotes. Yes. It was an assumption, but not absurd one at that. Here's one such article that talks about fake accounts -- http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/02/tech/social-media/facebook-fak...

EDIT2: Last year Facebook said 4.8% of their MAU was duplicate, misclassified, or spam accounts. That's 51+ million today assuming the percentage has remained constant.

rsivapr··on Third Annual GitHub Data Challenge
I can confirm. That query took about 2 seconds. More discussion here: http://www.datatau.com/item?id=3608
rsivapr··on Something has been bothering me about Data Science Central
Have you looked into http://www.datatau.com/ ? It's a user-curated list for topics related to data science.

Disclaimer: I started DataTau.

rsivapr··on Ask HN: How do you drive web traffic to your successful side projects?
Going to take this down later this week. My free micro-instance-on-AWS period is over. I get a constant drive of traffic from reddit. Could've thrown in ads, but I really din't want to keep it going. It's kinda stupid, but kinda cool?

rsivapr··on Bullet Journal: An analog note-taking system for the digital age
From http://paulgraham.com/procrastination.html

>I think the way to "solve" the problem of procrastination is to let delight pull you instead of making a to-do list push you. Work on an ambitious project you really enjoy, and sail as close to the wind as you can, and you'll leave the right things undone.

rsivapr··on Data Scientists: What tooling do you need? We're building.
Hey! Checkout www.datatau.com

It's like Hacker News but for Data Scientists. This question might be more relevant there.

rsivapr··on Hacker news for data scientists
Yes! I will add that soon. Thanks.
rsivapr··on Hacker news for data scientists
Thanks Terrik!
rsivapr··on Hacker news for data scientists
It was born only this noon (Eastern Time).
rsivapr··on Hacker news for data scientists
Thanks! I wanted to wait before I posted it on Hacker News, but sooner the better I guess.
rsivapr··on Hacker news for data scientists
Hi Karan. I am the person hosting DataTau. I completely understand what you're saying.

First, news.arc's style is something that people are used to and comfortable with; it's tried and tested. I decided not to reinvent the wheel.

But perhaps more importantly, I'm not a web developer. If I have to learn how to build a news site from scratch, I might as well wait and see if there is a requirement for it in the first place, right?

rsivapr··on Show HN: Memes As A Service
It's down! I think this hit Imgur's API limit.

It was my first ever app. This was more fun than I thought! Thanks HN!

rsivapr··on Show HN: Memes As A Service
You're absolutely right. I'll get rid of that next time the page goes down.

And Thanks!

rsivapr··on Show HN: Memes As A Service
Thanks! Not yet, it was my first time with Ruby and I hacked something in one night. Will clean it up and make the repo public.
