rocky1138··on Show HN: GPT-4-powered web searches for developers
This is great! Is there any way to disable the text slowly rendering over time and to just get the whole result at once? It's really slow, reading it this way.
rocky1138··on Show HN: PicoVGA Library – VGA/TV Display on Raspberry Pi Pico
From the README.md file:

> License terms

> The PicoVGA library source code and the PicoVGA library sample programs are freely available for further use and modifications. This does not apply to certain graphics and sounds (such as the sounds in Pac-Man) and scene definitions in Sokoban, as these are subject to third party copyrights and may be subject to different distribution terms.

Not a very well-defined one, at least.

rocky1138··on The PS2’s Backwards Compatibility from the Engineer Who Built It
And even then, no progressive scan at 480 lines.
rocky1138··on Contiki – OS for networked, memory-constrained systems
Thank you!
rocky1138··on Contiki – OS for networked, memory-constrained systems
This claims Atari Jaguar support, but I've never seen it. Does anyone have any links to video or imagery of it in action on that platform?
rocky1138··on How likely is losing a Google account?
I did this a few years ago. It wasn't too bad and I'm happy I did it. I moved providers, too.
rocky1138··on Joe Rogan Interviews Steve Jobs
This is a misleading title since it's a fake.
rocky1138··on Mastodon.technology Shutdown
This is almost exactly what happened with me hosting my GNU Social instance, kwat.chat. I enjoyed the community and the feeling that I was helping the fediverse. I let my users know well in advance it was closing down so they had time to move to another instance.
rocky1138··on Google is shutting down Stadia
They aren't just regular old Bluetooth?
rocky1138··on OpenTTD Game Mechanics
The setting in OpenTTD to close windows using right click is one of the best UI features anywhere and I miss it in daily life and especially when I go back to play the original TTD.
rocky1138··on Advantages of CRT over LCD
I would love to see modern CRTs but we have to be honest with ourselves about the negative environmental side with their lead components. Perhaps we could build a more environmentally friendly CRT with our processes nowadays.
rocky1138··on “Atari Was Very, Very Hard” – Nolan Bushnell on Atari, 50 Years Later
Ooh this is interesting! Which team was this? Care to share any more information on developing Jaguar games?
rocky1138··on Ask HN: What game do you wish existed?
After being excited for VR for so long, now that it's finally here it turns out what I actually want is the ability to do all this with my mind whilst laying in bed rather than having my eyes open and exercising.
rocky1138··on I fixed my broken monitor with a hair dryer
This is a really cute story. It might be really nice to fix it up and play it with your brother at Christmas (or other similar holiday) as a bonding fun time.
rocky1138··on Why do you waste so much time on the internet?
I experience this and go through periods where I get away from it all by setting Reddit and other sites to 0.0.0.0 in my hosts file.
rocky1138··on What are your most used self-hosted applications?
* git

* Syncthing

rocky1138··on Ask HN: Does anyone use a Raspberry Pi as your main computer?
Why Kubuntu and not KDE Neon?
rocky1138··on Retro Compaq LTE Laptop Powered by Raspberry Pi
There's a USB port on the side of the case.
rocky1138··on AMD Fires Back with 7 New Chips
This has been my biggest pain point with Intel. Why are sockets changed, seemingly, every generation? There's no point in having a socket in that case. Might as well solder the CPU right to the board.
rocky1138··on Things you notice when you quit the news (2016)
A very timely article. I've recently decided to completely abandon the news after the most recent issue in my country (the occupation of our capital city) once the issue was resolved. It was taking up far too much of my life and was negatively affecting my emotions. It's been a few days and I'm still amazed how much I've been able to accomplish on my projects now that I've got that time and energy back.

I hope I never relapse.

rocky1138··on Tamriel Rebuilt Roadmap
To answer your last question: yes! I've had a lot of fun with the quests in the new areas. Old Ebonheart is also a great place to explore.
rocky1138··on Tamriel Rebuilt Roadmap
The OpenMW construction set isn't nearly as mature as the one from Bethesda, but there is a tiny non-Morrowind starter kit built using this engine that you can use to make your own game: https://gitlab.com/OpenMW/example-suite
rocky1138··on Tamriel Rebuilt Roadmap
Yes.
rocky1138··on Winamp source code leak
It's basically a perfect music player. Lightweight, fast, runs on every version of Windows 95+, great playlist manager, skins, and has extensive plugins which support any music file format.

Why continue the search for perfection once it's been found?

rocky1138··on Neo-Andean Architecture in The Highest City in the World
I can't decide whether I love it or hate it.
rocky1138··on Neo-Andean Architecture in The Highest City in the World
3962.4 metres
rocky1138··on 1-Line CSS Layouts
Many people learned CSS before these functions were available. So, it's a newer, simpler way of doing something known.
rocky1138··on 1-Line CSS Layouts
I suspect it has something to do with the state of the art at the time you initially learned CSS. Grid came so much later and superseded so much of what came before that it's basically likely throwing away everything we know and starting to learn from scratch.
rocky1138··on Finishing my first game while working full-time
Jason, if you're reading this: I loved your post but I can't find an RSS or Atom feed for your blog.
rocky1138··on DownThemAll (2019)
I used this years ago. Worked great.
