richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Alternative to Docker Hub
We stick to DockerHub because it's extremely low-cost and relatively reliable. I think they will learn from their mistakes tbh.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Any chronically ill founders here? How do you balance your life?
I don't need to trip a lot. 1 trip was enough to have positive effects (I did between 10-15 trips in a 2 years interval). Those effects included a profound desire to realize myself and to better adapt to society. Mushrooms gave me a kick in the a so I was able to work on myself. It opened my eyes but I had to do all the job of rebuilding my vision of the world and determine where I'm seeing myself in that regard.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Any chronically ill founders here? How do you balance your life?
That resonates a lot with me. I don't want to do any promotion of those substances (every drug, good or bad has physical and/or psychological risks involved with the user) I self-medicated with psilocybin mushrooms and also used psychological support and so far I'm free from having recurring depression (I exclude seasonal affective disorder "SAD" because I can manage symptoms easily with healthy habits without requiring any external help). My first first year of medication was really intense mentally because I had to face a lot of inner issues. I feel like I learnt a lot about the traps I used to fell into when I was depressed. I consider myself in the best form I ever been in my life. Psychedelics helped me to better adapt to the society I live and contribute to.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Best books on the psychology of religion?
I would suggest Food of the Gods by Terrence McKenna as it brings an interesting angle over religion related to our consciousness: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/51660.Food_of_the_Gods
richerlariviere··on Relation between alcohol consumption in midlife and dementia in late life
Jon Hopkins university is conducting research on psychedelic. There is a whole universe of medical applications from what I saw but they need more funding to safely prove those.
richerlariviere··on Is the NYT Fingerprinting iOS devices to enforce their paywall?

richerlariviere··on Ask HN: What are the best open source GitHub repos using python 3?
How do you qualify a repo "better" compared to another?
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: What podcasts are you listening to?
Joe Rogan. Really interesting point of views and opinions. Some like the guy, some hate him.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Do you use marijuana non-recreationally?
I use it at the end of my day in a vaporized form so I can inhale less carcinogenic chemicals. It really helps to regulate my mood since I tend to have a really "jumping" mood when I'm tired. I take a dose small enough (currently 0.2g) to feel a little high and being functional for creative activities (music, walk in the woods). This forces me to take time to wrap up and integrate what happened during the day. I found marijuana really helpful to reduce anxiety. I never used weed as a miracle substance but more as a supplement to physical activity and meditation. Weed, despite what people say can trigger mental addictions and sometimes body withdrawals this is why I like to keep a tight control over it.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Why do location analytics still suck?
Do you have some experience you want to share with us about that?
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: How did you hack your home?
The aquarium project is nice! Is your project open source?
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: How did you hack your home?
I love your project. Bridging virtual and material component is so satisfying :).
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: What is your life goal?
My first goal in life is to find it. With our messed up world, as a 23yo, I don't quite know how to deal with that situation. But for sure, I want our civilization to stop polluting/destroying our planet and I seek for a better harmony between people and nature.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Is there a script to download past 3 months of HN or top n posts?
It's not a script, but you can use Algolia search bar :)

richerlariviere··on After 15 Years in a Vegetative State, Nerve Stimulation Restores Consciousness
I know that psychoactive substances like psylocibin is known to create more connections in the brain. I would be really interested to know if such study has been done on patients in vegetative state and if it can help in some way.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Do you use dedicated GitHub/NPM/etc. accounts for work?
I have 2 github accounts: one for my job and the other one for my personal projects. It really simplify the process of dealing with notifications and when you leave your job, you just forget about your account.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Best remote desktop app for customer support?
Remote Dekstop Manager from Devolutions is really complete and as far as I know it's a good enterprise level remote desktop software. https://remotedesktopmanager.com
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: What work-related task have you automated?
I can't leave without bringing that classic repo (https://github.com/NARKOZ/hacker-scripts) it's delightful and it's a cool example of work/life automation.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: For those that have experienced it, how did ayahuasca change you?
I don't know how the Hacker News community is open to those substances. But I certainly can recommend this very interesting article about psilocybin and other psychedelic drugs: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/02/09/trip-treatment. I found the article to be very rational without being to much esoteric (which I dislike, there is too much pseudo-science in this world...)

The good news is that in the recent years, research process has never been easier with FDA and DEA. I expect the next years to be a huge leap in that domain. From what I read, it is remarkably helpful for people with terminal diseases (psilocybin helps reduce death fear). People are far more spiritual after that.

I think subconscious side of our brain is highly underrated and our society may benefits from that greater knowledge.

I know almost nothing about Ayahuasca but I guess the most important part is not the fact you took the substance but mostly the search process behind and the preparation you had.

I had a good experience with psilocybin and one thing I realized is that when the timing is right (you feel it generally), I don't have to worry about any bad symptoms (paranoia, anxiety etc).

I wish you luck but always be aware of the risks.

richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Should I learn Go/Rust or C++/Java
I have a similar experience (doing PHP using notably CakePHP, Laravel and other vanilla php web apps). For me, I found the best bet was to learn Go. You won't have trouble learning it since the syntax is really simple. With C++ you have a lot of way to accomplish a task depending of the language version you're using so I found it harder to discover good practices. This is my point of view if we neglect all the "external factors" and we only consider personal preferences.
richerlariviere··on I Accidentally Found a Security Vulnerability in Windows 10
From what I know, after a few hours you can post a duplicate.
richerlariviere··on Facebook to Open New Artificial Intelligence Lab in Montreal
I live in downtown montreal and I can assure it's also a great place to live. Far more cheaper than a Bay area location and it's pretty peaceful.
richerlariviere··on What Web-Scraping community can you recommend?
I don't know if such community exists, but it could be really fun to have weekly scraping challenges and have the possibility to compare them to other's solutions.

On the software side you can hack around with PX4, a drone autopilot firmware running on Pixhawk board. PX4 is supporting rovers aka rc car. The community is great also.

richerlariviere··on Show HN: A Developer Story

richerlariviere··on Ask HN: How to make coding at home not feel like work?
I had the same feeling of burnout. A 30 minute walk before working fixed this feeling for me. Also, this time inspired me great ideas.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: What's your plan for 2017?
I want something very simple: being able to manage my time in a way that allow me to have a balanced life. Too often I over-did something (programming, drones, etc) without considering my physic/mental health. So this year will be all about small changes, small improvements.
