rahulvohra··on Life lessons from the very wealthy
"Work is the process of exchanging your time for money."

I never want to "work" in an organisation where this is true.

rahulvohra··on Rapportive just turned Gmail into a really useful Twitter client
Did you see the Rapportive sidebar to the right of a conversation? It should show you useful context about the people you're communicating with.

If not, do you perhaps have any conflicting Gmail extensions? (e.g. Better Gmail can conflict.)

rahulvohra··on Rapportive just turned Gmail into a really useful Twitter client
Yes, that's the plan — we can then crowdsource that data and increase accuracy for everybody.
rahulvohra··on Rapportive just turned Gmail into a really useful Twitter client
Apologies for that! Our data is now extremely accurate, apart from our CrunchBase Raplet — which is in great need of tender loving care. We'll get on it.

In the meantime, hit me up at rahul@rapportive.com and I'll sort out the error for you :)

rahulvohra··on Rapportive (YC S10) integrates Gmail People Widget, gains features
This is why we have a big warning when you install a Raplet — you are trusting the authors of the Raplet to treat your email addresses with respect. This is why we only list Raplets in the gallery from authors we know and trust.

A hash would work for many use cases, but wouldn't work for adding a contact to a CRM/Helpdesk/etc.

Access to the plaintext email addresses could be a permission that Raplets ask for, but this may be unnecessary complication.

rahulvohra··on How Rapportive (YC S10) Designed Their New UI
Apologies; it looks like Posterous has a small glitch right now. You can see the article here:

rahulvohra··on Gmail and Google Contacts, brought together by Rapportive (YC S10)
Thanks! You should see paid-for features later this year. Everything that you see today should remain completely free.
rahulvohra··on Gmail and Google Contacts, brought together by Rapportive (YC S10)
Good catch — I didn't even know you could do this. I always used to click on the contact, click on "More", and then click on "Contact Details". I much prefer not having to have click at all :)
rahulvohra··on Gmail and Google Contacts, brought together by Rapportive (YC S10)
I'd also love an app to go through my phone numbers and internationalise them. It would have to be a semi-automated process, as I've got contacts with local numbers in a number of different countries.

The Google Contacts support is currently one way, but it's a great idea to write the data back. Could you please vote on it here: http://rapportive.com/feedback/527051 — that way you'll be kept in the loop as we make progress :)

What mobile device do you use?

rahulvohra··on Xobni (YC S06) comes to Gmail
I can't say much right now, but you'll see how we're different in the coming year! We've just been setting the stage :)
rahulvohra··on Xobni (YC S06) comes to Gmail
hey Davide, which one stat would you say is most interesting?
rahulvohra··on Rapportive (YC S10) adds Facebook: like, comment, and add friends from Gmail
There's been a bit of discussion about this on our blog: http://blog.rapportive.com/40551428

Does that help?

rahulvohra··on Rapportive (YC S10) adds Facebook: like, comment, and add friends from Gmail
Thanks for giving Rapportive a go! If you can, please stick with it: the results will get better over the next 1-2 days. (We know we've got lots of work to do on first user experience, and we're addressing that.)

We're also building features specifically to help spot email addresses belonging to the same people, which would have really helped in this case.

rahulvohra··on Rapportive (YC S10) adds Facebook: like, comment, and add friends from Gmail
(Slightly OT: I'm happy to chat any entrepreneurs who are thinking about pitching OAF about our experience doing so. I also highly recommend AngelList.)

The perils of working on different sides of the Atlantic…
rahulvohra··on Rapportive (YC S10) adds Facebook: like, comment, and add friends from Gmail
The plan is to go freemium: build an amazingly useful product, and charge money for premium features.

I know that startups very commonly say that this is their plan. We've thought very hard about what makes freemium work: http://blog.rapportive.com/is-freemium-right-for-you. We're pretty certain that Rapportive has all the right characteristics.

Thanks — I'll follow up with you about this at @hello_world
rahulvohra··on Grow your network with Rapportive
ultrasaurus, thanks for this! Do you mind if I follow up by email to ask you a few questions about how you email? I'm at rahul@rapportive.com

Also, I just got crm.raplet.info working (I don't think it did last time I tried). Looks great so far :)

rahulvohra··on Grow your network with Rapportive
wwortiz, that's a good point. Posterous supports themes, so we should use those to make it easier to find our product.

Thanks! We are very fortunate to be working with a truly awesome designer (@limedaring on twitter). We simply did not stop working on the site until we felt it was awesome (I think I spent almost a week fulltime on it, and I wasn't doing the design).

Nothing yet on Campaign Monitor, but I've added it to my list. (If it helps, Constant Contact is in the works.)

Positivity is something I consciously work on.

1. If at every point you're taking what you believe to be approximately right decisions, given all the information you have at that time, then you can ban regrets from your mind. This is a good frame of mind to be in: you can focus on the future. The corollary is to arm yourself with information. For more on this, and more besides, see: http://bhorowitz.com/2010/05/30/how-andreessen-horowitz-eval...

2. Although we face a lot of negativity, it comes only in a few limited forms. Any negative statement, such as "your business will fail because Google will crush you like the tiny ants you are", should only have an impact the first time you hear it. You then decide what you think of the statement, and unless later information convinces you otherwise, your mind should be made. No regrets.

3. I consciously try not to emotionally react to situations. I also try to smile :)

It may look like that today, but when you pitch investors you sell them on the team, the market and the vision. You paint a compelling picture of how you get from where you are today to somewhere incredibly exciting.
rahulvohra··on 10,000+ users in 24 hours & YC funding a few days later: lessons learnt
Good point. Added the blurb to the blog, but couldn't find a quick way of adding a link. That might require theme customisation. (Or am I wrong?)
rahulvohra··on 10,000+ users in 24 hours & YC funding a few days later: lessons learnt
We have plans which we're going to test in the coming months. As much as we can say right now is that it will be freemium: we intend to keep the core service you see today free, and to charge for premium features.
rahulvohra··on 10,000+ users in 24 hours & YC funding a few days later: lessons learnt
Thanks :) You're absolutely right, we need to customise the posterous theme a tad. Edit: added blurb, not yet a link.

Hey Fred, thanks for your kind words.

Yes, there is a Rapportive API. It doesn't allow for Rapportive to go inside other applications, but it does allow folks to embed their own applications inside Rapportive. Would that be useful at all to you?

For example, MailChimp recently released an integration which allows Rapportive users to see how the people who email them interact with their email newsletters. Checkout http://www.mailchimp.com/blog/mailchimp-in-your-gmail-with-r... and this funky video: http://blip.tv/file/3859911

There are more of these Rapportive applications, or Raplets, at http://raplets.com

You can find the documentation at: http://groups.google.com/group/raplet-dev http://groups.google.com/group/raplet-announce

The other thing a lead often does in seed rounds is to work with the entrepreneur to set the price and other terms; the subsequent investors then reassure themselves that somebody who knows what they are doing thinks this is a good deal.
