rabino··on TagSpaces – Open-source personal data manager
Just curious, why is that? Why AGPL would prevent you from using this?
rabino··on Replicant developers find and close Samsung Galaxy backdoor
Not sure why I'm getting downvoted.

See http://arstechnica.com/security/2014/03/virtually-no-evidenc...

rabino··on Replicant developers find and close Samsung Galaxy backdoor
They say it so it must be true.
rabino··on BasicCoin, a cryptocurrency in less than 600 lines of Python
Unless I'm missing something, the only advantage of it being only 600 lines of code is for educational purposes. But condensing the code in such way to reduce line count goes against such objective. Any other reason to advertise brevity in LoC?
rabino··on Refactored PHP engine makes Wordpress 20% faster
Not sure what this has to do with the topic at hand, but since you derailed the conversation let me tell you that I run several WordPress sites with a few dozen million visits a month without much trouble.
rabino··on Automattic Raises $160 Million, Valued at $1.16 Billion
"WordPress.com parent" is correct, though. "WordPress parent" wouldn't.
rabino··on Shit HN Says
This is really funny. But it should be a HN thread instead of a twitter account, so we can vote.
rabino··on Why I won’t work for Google
I can't really explain why, but I agree with you re: Facebook. Of all the big ones, is the one I'd like to work for the most. Maybe is the amount of social experiment you could do, I dunno.

Re: Amazon, I think you are totally wrong. They are a tech company that happens to do Retail.

rabino··on Headphones and Earphones Benchmarking Test Files
Can you recommend a source where to get some?
rabino··on Headphones and Earphones Benchmarking Test Files
I'm on a second floor, right beside a window. I clicked play without reading the description. It scared the life out of me.
rabino··on Nissan's ‘Self-Cleaning’ Car Prototype [video]
Looks like it's using something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEH6tDLKcVU
rabino··on 4chan source code leaked (2010)
+100

People here love to poke fun at WordPress. I'd love to take any of them out of startup-land and make them work for a full week in a 10 years old corporate piece of software, written pretty much in any language.

rabino··on Goji: a web microframework for Go
fwiw, I prefer Revel better than Martini.
rabino··on Ask HN: What source code is worth studying?
https://github.com/norman/friendly_id

To learn how to document code.

rabino··on Localtunnel.me
Also: Vagrant has added a "vagrant share" command that publishes access to your vagrant box, which should be safer than publishing access to your full machine.

rabino··on Self-storage: The men who got rich selling empty space
The title is lame. He didn't get rich selling empty space. He got rich selling what's enclosing that empty space.
rabino··on Testing for "reverse" Heartbleed
Since 3.7 WordPress auto-upgrades itself in the background (for minor versions), like Chrome does. So not sure what are you talking about.
rabino··on Show HN: TruckPlease – Moving sucks, so we decided to make it easier
"Find someone who gives a truck." would be a better tagline.

Other than that, really cool idea.

rabino··on Testing for "reverse" Heartbleed
As far as I understand, the sloppy ones are the sysadmin behind those sites, not the WordPress installs. And as far as I know, lazy sysadmins don't discriminate regarding what technology they are lazy with.
rabino··on JetPack security update
Awful week for internet security
rabino··on What Heartbleed Can Teach The OSS Community About Marketing
No, a thousand times no. It's pretty obvious big targets would be on top of this. But given the severity of this bug you need to get to the lazy sysadmin, to the small ecommerce owner that doesn't have an on site admin, etc.
rabino··on What Heartbleed Can Teach The OSS Community About Marketing
And what about Google? and Amazon? And banks? And .gov sites?

I'm not sure how you can handle this in any different way as they did, really.

rabino··on Ask HN: A middle ground for backup services
If he's on a Mac, Arq is a great solution.

rabino··on Heartbleed Alexa top 10000
slack.com

edit: I contacted the developers and they were super fast to patch everything, roll keys, etc. It's contained now.

rabino··on Heartbleed Alexa top 10000
It's not harder to find the insecurity. At all.

It's harder to get a generic exploit that will give you access to a lot of targets. But I'd argue that finding an exploit for a particular target would be easier.

rabino··on Heartbleed Alexa top 10000
Not sure I agree. More eyes in a library should mean it is more secure. I guess.

Having 200 broken TSL libraries is security by obscurity. Not very useful, and a pain for sysadmins.

rabino··on Show HN: Try Ion before you buy – uses BluetoothLE, Node.js, websockets, jsmpeg
Well, thank you. http://files.mzaweb.com/image/1f3t0d2b0L3q
rabino··on Hijacking user sessions with the Heartbleed vulnerability
seems to be patched now
rabino··on The Short Answers To Every Matt Cutts Video
The domain name is pretty funny. Props.
rabino··on Clever Cloud, a European Platform as a Service
I was looking at the 'solo' package. The cheapest one. Doesn't look to offer more than the server itself.
